Find Videos Bookmarklet | Bookmarklet Search Engine
I put together a bookmarklet that finds videos about a word or a phrase that are selected in the page. A bookmarklet is a piece of code that is saved as a bookmark. When clicked, it performs some action (rather than just taking you to a bookmarked website). to use the bookmarklet, simply drag it to your bookmarks bar (or right click it and save it to your bookmarks). When you see a word or a phrase that interest you, select them with the mouse and click the bookmarklet.

Citer Bookmarklet | Bookmarklet Search Engine
Legal Citation Finder Bookmarklet

Find the full-text of a legal document based on only the cite...when a direct link to the cite doesn't even exist. Just bookmark the LII Citer link (below) in your browser, highlight the cite, and follow the LII Citer bookmark.

How it works

Citer is easy an easy to use bookmarklet. No software installations or browser add-ons:

1.Create a bookmark/favorite pointing to LII's Citer.
Make a bookmark using the code in the LII Citer links above - just as you save any link or website in your browser's bookmarks or favorites list. This is usually as easy as right-clicking the correct Citer link above (mind your browser) and selecting "Bookmark This Location" or "Add a Favorite." Once Citer is saved in your bookmarks/favorites, you won't need to complete this step again. Alternative directions for creating a Citer bookmark are here.
2.Highlight the cite.
Highlight/select any text that includes the cite you want to see in full - currently Citer only follows these citation types. If there is more than one cite in your highlighted text, Citer will only read the last among them.
3.Follow your Citer bookmark to the full-text.
Keep the text highlighted. Find the Citer bookmark where you saved it in your browser's list of bookmarks/favorites. Click the Citer bookmark to follow it. You will be taken straight to the full-text of the cited document if it's supported.

Try it out

Try it out on the citation below. When you highlight the full citation and use Citer, it should take you straight to the text of the citation.

Rodenticide Act (7 U.S.C. 136a(c)(3)(B)(ii)) is amended--

Now try it out on these various legal texts for more citation following fun.

Remember, Citer currently only follows these citation types. A more detailed description and our future plans for this project can be found here. Keep checking back here or follow LII's blog or Twitter feeds to keep up with Citer's progress and future editions.

With recent mistakes by companies and organizations not knowing how to properly censor online documents, its easy to see why people believe the text they can't see can't be read. And with computer illiterate people like Rush Limbaugh, it is easy to befuddle them with the apperance of censored text on the web pages they commonly visit.

A playful experiment in "censoring" a web page by hiding text and images behind blocks.

GazoPa search Bookmarklet | Bookmarklet Search Engine
GazoPa is a similar image search service on the web in open beta by Hitachi. Users can search images from the web based on user's own photo, drawings, images found on the web and keywords. GazoPa enables users to search for a similar image from characteristics such as a color or a shape extracted from an image itself. There are abundant quantities of images on the web, however many of these simply cannot be described by keywords. Since GazoPa uses image features to search other similar images, a vast range of images can be retrieved from the web. GazoPa is a new visual search service that can navigate users to new territories on the web.

How to use

1. Open a page with images.
2. After all the images are loaded, click on the bookmarklet (the link added to your bookmark bar)
3. Frames of images on the page becomes blue. "GazoPa search" button appears in a image when mouse cursor is over the image.
4. Click "GazoPa search" button and then you can get search results.

cssess Bookmarklet | Bookmarklet Search Engine
The Bookmarklet That Finds Unused CSS Selectors

I’m happy to announce the release of cssess (pronounced secess, like secession), a bookmarklet that helps you find unused CSS selectors on any site.

Around mid Jan 2010 Charles Lawrence announced Helium. Helium is a similar JS tool designed to help find unused CSS selectors. It was a great idea but had a number of significant flaws.

* It used querySelectorAll, meaning it wouldn’t work in IE 6 or 7.
* It was designed to be included in the page itself and used on development sites precluding its use on live sites.
* While it would spider other pages to test selectors, you had to add the URLs manually.

Shortly after I decided to create my own project based on Helium that would solve these issues and cssess was born. I replaced querySelectorAll with jQuery, designed it for use as a bookmarklet, and had it spider links on the current page. Unfortunately it fell to the wayside and was never developed far enough for public release, until now.

CSSess is a JS tool that helps find extra CSS rules on your site. It is designed to be used as a bookmarklet.

The name CSSess comes from the word secess and is pronounced the same way. secess means withdraw or retreat.

It was inspired by Helium (https://github.com/geuis/helium-css/). CSSess has many improvements over Helium:

* Helium depends on querySelectorAll, restricting use to the latest browsers. CSSess uses jQuery as a selector engine.
* Helium requires that you add URLs to check manually. CSSess will spider all same domain links on the current page.
* Helium was designed to be included within the page. CSSess is designed to be used as a bookmarklet.

Using cssess

Using cssess is easy.

1. Drag the below link to your bookmarks
2. Navigate to the page you want to check and invoke the bookmarklet.
3. cssess will present you with a list of URLs linked to by the current page. Select the ones you want to include in the test.
4. Click run.

After running, cssess will present you with a list of unused selectors for each page.

Known Issues

I consider cssess to be at a beta level. It’s usable but has issues.

* It doesn’t combine unused selectors across pages correctly.
* Its stylesheet is minimal, meaning it could look funny due to styles already included on the site.
* It lists some URLs multiple times.
* Probably some other stuff I’m not thinking of right now.

There are also some features I want to add, including the ability to enter additional URLs manually and checking for a sitemap.

Feel free to fork cssess on github, fix bugs and add features, and submit a pull request. If you find additional issues or have feature requests please add them to the github issue tracker.

Mobile Perf Bookmarklet | Bookmarklet Search Engine
Web development on mobile devices is especially challenging. The debuggers and profilers we use on the desktop aren't available. Bookmarklets are a good alternative. They're lightweight and work on most browsers - even mobile browsers. But installing bookmarklets in mobile browsers is a pain. You could try to find all the good bookmarklets out there and install them one by one. Or...

Just install the Mobile Perf bookmarklet!

This is what the Mobile Perf bookmarklet looks like. It displays a menu with links that load other bookmarklets including Firebug Lite, Page Resources, DOM Monster, SpriteMe, CSSess, and Zoompf. The Mobile Perf menu is updated as new bookmarklets are released - so you get the latest tools automatically.

Rule Bookmarklet | Bookmarklet Search Engine
Using Rule is extremely simple:

* Drag the Rule link below to your bookmark bar (or add it to your standard bookmarks by right clicking the link and selected 'Add to bookmarks/favourites')
* Load any web-page you want
* Click Rule in your bookmark bar
* Use and configure Rule to assist with your layout

It is often very useful for both web-designers and web-developers to be able to both measure out and mark up a design's layout. Traditionally this will be done in a desktop application such as Photoshop and then sliced up into the intended web-site. However, once the site is at that point in the development cycle, these design tools are just as important, if not more so, to ensure that nothing is lost from the original design. There are few if any tools which allow this to be done in a web-browser and Rule is designed to fill this gap.

Get YouTube video Bookmarklet | Bookmarklet Search Engine
An interesting side-effect of YouTube's recent push for higher quality videos is that most videos can be downloaded as MP4 files directly from YouTube. Until now, you could only get FLV files from your browser's cache or using one of the many websites that let you download YouTube videos. In fact, to download the MP4 files, you need to use the same URL like for FLV files and append "&fmt=18":

http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=ID&t=SIGNATURE&fmt=18

ID is the video's identification value, SIGNATURE is a value that prevents you from downloading the file just by knowing the ID. You could create this URL by looking at the source code of a YouTube page, but it's much easier to automatically generate it.
