Flipboard's Mike McCue: Web format has 'contaminated' online journalism | Technology | Los Angeles Times
He has a point about how the demand for page views changes the manner of content, but "contaminate"? Really?

EPIC FAIL: the sorry state of web education in schools | opensource.com
via tech_rhet. Move away from teaching and using proprietary software - from Word to Dreamweaver - and start incorporating open source and web-based stuff - the kind of stuff that students can use to get beyond the proprietary. Excellent little article, but I wonder what took them so long to figure this out. Academia doesn't move as slowly as all that. Been doing this, and wrestling with it, for years. Might want to read this in conjunction with TBL's Long Live the Web.

Rough Type: Nicholas Carr's Blog: Experiments in delinkification
Pop piece for Web Content Writing on placing links effectively. Old hat. Nielson was on this years ago, and rhetoricians were suggesting alternatives long before this piece was conceptualized - as the comments on the post point out.

Today's Guardian (Phil Gyford’s website)
Although the finished site looks nothing like a newspaper I think it has more in common with newspapers’ best features than most news websites do. The sense of browsing quickly through stories and reading the ones that catch your eye, feels similar.

Monograph | Teach the Web
A passable review of what web developers see a valuable in learning web development and design. As expected, the focus is on understanding theory, engagement, malleable learners. The article stereotypes higher ed courses as too slow to adapt. Also relies on the outdated bicameral mind to address the differences in practices in development and design. Worth tapping into.

Bring the E-Books Home » ‘Chasing Crusoe’ via multimedia: Robinson Crusoe the novel vs. the real ‘Crusoe’ and his island
critique of the Chasing Crusoe multimedia presentation: squanders the opportunity to really develop the text. But it looks like the project is supposed to be a mass media story rather than a deep text.

BSU Ed Undergraduate Programs
most of the BSUED web pages place promo materials above information and/or pass off promo as info. Most make good exercises for re-writing and reorganizing. The FAQ is phonied up, too, used as a device for structuring the page rather than a FAQ
