TinyGraphs is an open source add-in for Excel that creates sparklines, mini column graphs, and area graphs from a row of data. It generates beautiful tiny graphics that are as small as a cell and is useful for visualizing large quantities of data, such as stock prices and exchange rates.

Open Data Kit (ODK) is a free and open-source set of tools which help organizations author, field, and manage mobile data collection solutions. ODK provides an out-of-the-box solution for users to:
- Build a data collection form or survey;
- Collect the data on a mobile device and send it to a server; and
- Aggregate the collected data on a server and extract it in useful formats.

Welkin is a graph-based RDF visualizer.

Semantic Interoperability of Metadata and Information in unLike Environments

SIMILE was focused on developing robust, open source tools that empower users to access, manage, visualize and reuse digital assets.

It is a command-line utility that takes a specially-structured CSV file as input and outputs standards-compliant HTML/CSS/JavaScript. It supports any span of time from minutes to years, and supports multiple parallel event series in a single timeline. It can handle custom descriptions and even arbitrary HTML in each event “card.” It creates fluid embeds that will look great at any width.

If you need to convert files from one markup format into another, pandoc is your swiss-army knife. Need to generate a man page from a markdown file? No problem. A Word document from textile source? Sure. HTML to MediaWiki? Yes, that too. Pandoc can read markdown and (subsets of) reStructuredText, textile, HTML, and LaTeX, and it can write plain text, markdown, reStructuredText, HTML, LaTeX, ConTeXt, PDF, RTF, DocBook XML, OpenDocument XML, ODT, GNU Texinfo, MediaWiki markup, textile, groff man pages, Emacs org-mode, AsciiDoc, Microsoft Word docx, EPUB ebooks, and S5 and Slidy HTML slide shows. PDF output (via LaTeX) is also supported.

Parallel Sets (ParSets) is a visualization application for categorical data, like census and survey data, inventory, and many other kinds of data that can be summed up in a cross-tabulation. ParSets provide a simple, interactive way to explore and analyze such data.

Excel LDAP Search (ELS) is an Excel add-in that allows LDAP searches to be made from within Microsoft Excel, and the resulting data to be directly imported from the directory server to the Excel document. ELS can be used to add LDAP data to existing data in an Excel document on a row-by-row basis (see Figure 1), or populate a blank sheet based on a custom query.

YOURLS is a small set of PHP scripts that will allow you to run your own URL shortening service (a la TinyURL). You can make it private or public, you can pick custom keyword URLs, it comes with its own API. You will love it.
There's a WordPress plugin available for YOURLS, making integration with your blog a snap: create short URLs and tweet them automagically as you publish blog posts.

Navit for Android is an open source (GPL) car navigation system.
It will display your position on a map (in bird-view mode or as a 3D "visualization") from GPS sensor data, and can provide precise route calculation, touch screen functionality and supports Points of Interest (POI).
Unlike other navigation systems, Navit maps are dynamically generated in real time from vector data.
Navit is completly offline and works without an internet connection.

Data comes from the project repository logs. Time flows horizontally from left to right. At each timestep (usually a month) developers are clustered by the files they modify. A histogram at the bottom shows the volume and type of file committed. You can mouse-over individual lines to see them better.

This visualization, called code_swarm, shows the history of commits in a software project.

cinemetrics is about measuring and visualizing movie data, in order to reveal the characteristics of films and to create a visual “fingerprint” for them. Information such as the editing structure, color, speech or motion are extracted, analyzed and transformed into graphic representations so that movies can be seen as a whole and easily interpreted or compared side by side.

puddletag is an audio tag editor (primarily created) for GNU/Linux similar to the Windows program, Mp3tag. Unlike most taggers for GNU/Linux, it uses a spreadsheet-like layout so that all the tags you want to edit by hand are visible and easily editable.

The usual tag editor features are supported like extracting tag information from filenames, renaming files based on their tags by using patterns and basic tag editing.

Then there’re Functions, which can do things like replace text, trim it, do case conversions, etc. Actions can automate repetitive tasks. You can import your QuodLibet library, lookup tags using Amazon (including cover art), Discogs (does cover art too!), FreeDB and MusicBrainz. There’s quite a bit more, but I’ve reached my comma quota.

Supported formats: ID3v1, ID3v2 (mp3), MP4 (mp4, m4a, etc.), VorbisComments (ogg, flac), Musepack (mpc), Monkey’s Audio (.ape) and WavPack (wv).

SimplyBurns is a Mac OS X application with a GUI, which allows the user to burn CD / DVD media.

SmackTop is a utility for Mac laptops (after 2005) which translates the accelerometer (Sudden Motion Sensor) data into MIDI messages. This enables the user to control their favorite DAW by smacking their laptop.

Cropper is a screen capture utility written in C#. It makes it fast and easy to grab parts of your screen.

Dwarf is an open source screen toolbox / screen ruler. It provides designers and developers with tools to measure and align anything on the screen.

Sozi is a small program that can play animated presentations (just like Prezi).

Unlike in most presentation applications, a Sozi document is not organized as a slideshow, but rather as a poster where the content of your presentation can be freely laid out. Playing such a presentation consists in a series of translations, zooms and rotations that allow to focus on the elements you want to show.

Sozi is based on open standards. It is free software distributed according to the terms of the GPL 3.0.

SoX is a cross-platform (Windows, Linux, MacOS X, etc.) command line utility that can convert various formats of computer audio files in to other formats. It can also apply various effects to these sound files, and, as an added bonus, SoX can play and record audio files on most platforms.
