The Guitar Museum is dedicated to the Guitar of the 19th Century (actually from 1785-1909). From the birth of the six string Guitar to the death of Tarrega.
I N T R O D U C T I O N
The main objective of the guitar museum is to share my knowledge, information and instruments with like minded people. The difference between this and many other very informative sites, are that all of the exhibits are available for inspection. Although I do buy and sell guitars, none of the museums collection are for sale. However, please visit the museum shop for related items - And if anyone is selling a guitar or a manuscript of historic importance, please contact the museum.

Online catalog

The museum's online catalogue provides information on all the pieces in the collection, both those on display to the public, and those kept in storage. The instruments are classified according to the Hornbostel-Sachs system (aerophones, chordophones, idiophones, membranophones and elettrophones). Additionally, there are three categories that include accessories and parts of instruments, objects, keyboard instruments. A summary sheet, accompanied by a photograph, describes each piece and provides existing documentation on it, which includes photographs, technical drawings, condition reports, scientific investigations, archival documents, as well as providing access to the full inventory entry for additional information.

MUSIKINSTRUMENT
Samlingen av musikinstrument omfattar ca. 6400 föremål. Tyngdpunkten ligger inom områdena europeisk konstmusik och nordisk folkmusik, men även utomeuropeiska musikkulturer är förhållandevis väl representerade. Tidsmässigt spänner samlingen över en period på ca. 400 år, från tidigt 1600-tal och fram till helt nytillverkade instrument. Sedan 1970-talet är merparten av Nordiska museets musikinstrumentsamling deponerad hos oss.

I denna webbkatalog finns för närvarande ca. 1800 instrument.

New York City and nearby New Jersey, Long Island, and Westchester County have been home to a vibrant Italian American population since the late nineteenth century. Within this community, a remarkable tradition of lutherie (stringed-instrument making) has flourished. Italian American craftsmen have produced an enormous variety of musical instruments, from traditional European-style violins, mandolins, and guitars to newer American instruments such as archtop guitars and mandolins and even electric guitars. Since the 1930s, makers from this tradition in the New York region have become especially well known for their extraordinary archtop guitars. This exhibition examines the work of three remarkable craftsmen from this heritage—John D'Angelico, James D'Aquisto, and John Monteleone—their place in the extended context of Italian and Italian American instrument making, and the inspiration of the sights and sounds of New York City.
