The Odyssey Mandolin Quartet is a chamber ensemble composed of the mandolin family of instruments (mandolins, mandola, mandocello). Essentially they are a string quartet of plucked string instruments.

OMQ was established in 2008 with Dorothy Palsgrove on 1st mandolin, James Kellaris on 2nd mandolin, Michael Hitchcock on mandola, and Yvonne Wingard on mandocello.

The OMQ performs a wide variety of music spanning genres, time periods, and geographic origins, with a focus on classical music and the repertoire of the Golden Age of the Mandolin (1890 - 1920's).

OMQ performs in a variety of venues and settings ranging from concert halls to private events.

The Nonesuch Mandolin and Guitar Trio was formed in 2005 by three performing members of the Baltimore Mandolin Orchestra http://www.baltimoremandolinorchestra.org

Currently the trio consists of Laura Norris and Jim Blanchard on mandolins and Jeff Doll on classical guitar. The trio offers a refreshing departure from typical chamber music ensembles, which are dominated by instruments of the violin family.
The Nonesuch Trio is available to perform in concert and at weddings as well as to provide tasteful background music for social events such as open houses, private parties, wine tastings, teas and the like. (Please see the Contact page for contact information.)
The trio plays only acoustic instruments with no amplification, so their sound tends to be soft and quiet. Relatively small, intimate settings are best suited for the listener.

nasce con l’intento di far conoscere un repertorio dedicato alle composizioni per mandolino con cembalo, voce e archi ormai dimenticato. Questo repertorio ha conosciuto il suo periodo d’oro nel XVIII secolo, quando, accanto ad una gran quantità di mandolinisti compositori, di cui si ricordano le opere, ma di cui non abbiamo notizie biografiche, troviamo nomi come Paganini, Beethoven, Scarlatti, Mozart, Vivaldi ed altri.

Il gruppo, con varie formazioni quali mandolino e cembalo, o mandolino, voce, cembalo, o ancora mandolino archi e cembalo, propone vari programmi con musiche di Mozart, Haendel, Vivaldi, Scarlatti, Guerra, Gervasio e Giuliano, oltre ad Anonimi del XVIII sec. Bastano pochi minuti di ascolto e le sonorità raffinate e virtuose degli strumenti a pizzico del barocco ci riportano in un’atmosfera d’altri (gloriosi) tempi.

Il Mandolino, pur essendo uno strumento popolare, è stato impiegato anche nella musica cosiddetta colta e, talvolta, anche nell'opera lirica. Lo stesso Antonio Vivaldi compose un concerto per mandolino (Concerto in Do maggiore Op.3 n.6) e due concerti per due mandolini ed orchestra. Mozart lo inserì nel suo Don Giovanni e Beethoven gli dedicò quattro sonatine.
