Microsoft Research Cliplets (32 bit) - Microsoft Research
A still photograph is a limited format for capturing moments that span an interval of time. Video is the traditional method for recording durations of time, but the subjective “moment” that one desires to capture is often lost in the chaos of shaky camerawork, irrelevant background clutter, and noise that dominates most casually recorded video clips. Microsoft Research Cliplets is an interactive app that uses semi-automated methods to give users the power to create “cliplets”—a type of imagery that sits between stills and video from handheld videos. The tool provides a creative lens one can use to focus on important aspects of a moment by performing spatiotemporal compositing and editing on a video-clip input.

You Did What with What? by Tyler Gaw
o I have my excitement over a new feature set, and inspiration from Mr. Moody, time to get to it. The Man From Hollywood is a kinetic type animation using only HTML, CSS and Javascript. All of the animation is done using Webkit CSS transition, transforms, as well as standard CSS properties. Javascript just acts as a helper to turn CSS classnames on and off at the appropriate times. All of the content you see on the demo is HTML and CSS, no images were used. The audio clip is scene from the movie Four Rooms

Asl.JS Now Auto-Generates Impress.JS Finger Spelling Presentations in HTML5 « HunterDavis.com
A helpful reader (thanks Remo!) suggested I update the sign language fingering Javascript project to display the fingerings on screen without a timeout.  It sounded like a good idea, and I thought it would be a synergistic addition as I've been wanting to do some dynamically created impress.JS presentations.  So, I've gone ahead and implemented dynamic impress.JS presentations in asl.JS.  As you've probably seen from my interactive resume (or its source code),  impress.JS is an open source Javascript library that allows you to create 3d presentations and slide shows in HTML5.

You can see it in action live on my website at http://hunterdavis.com/asljs/, or view the source at its github page here.  With this update asl.JS is fast becoming a modern, and hopefully useful web tool.  Everything still runs on the client in Javascript, and no personal data or strings are ever sent to the server (I don't even run analytics on the page).  I have quite a few useful features and improvements I'd like to get in there eventually, and I hope that others will find the code useful in their own work.  Incidentally, this has all grown from a project that was essentially a code doodle from a bored hacker.  It just goes to show that even the smallest of contributions to open source can increase in value exponentially over time.  You never know what others will find useful, so get out there and share!

tagthe.net - Webservice that tags your resources
FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

What is this?
tagthe.net is a webservice intended to provide you with tags for your texts. You can use it in your applications, in other webservices or just play around with it.
Why is it so different?
In contrast to other services it uses the information that is present in the text, it analyses the content and tries to find out words that could be useful as tags. Currently it works with english, german, french and spanish texts.
What technologies do you use?
The analysis component is written in Java and utilizes a great bunch of open source libraries. This Web page runs on the Helma Object Publisher and connects to the REST API which you can use for your own applications.
What is all that tagging stuff about?
Tags are nothing else than keywords, that you assign to your content. It is like putting a document into more than one folder. To get an overview of tagging, you could start here and then have a look at one of the numerous services that are using tags: del.icio.us, flickr or Gmail.
What is that Magic that you claim to use?
After all it is just plain statistics and a fair amount of logic with a twist of lemon.
Do you plan to provide other languages in the future?
Yes. But we don't know which and we don't know when. Stay tuned.
How could I use tagthe.net?
As already mentioned, you could integrate it in your own applications, everywhere from an Email Client to a Blogging Service. Everything could use a little tag or two.
This is a webservice, if I use it in an application, will it be there forever?
We don't know. We hope so, but that depends on how much you and others use it. Generally we think this is going to stay.
Is there a limit of requests per day or do I need to register and get an API key to use it?
No. For the moment there is no limit, no need to register and no API key or whatsoever. Just use it. If you are planning an application that uses it heavily, please drop us a line.
What do you plan to do with that technology?
This is just a sneak preview into a product we are currently working on. So it is going to be part of other things in the future.
Who developed this?
tagthe.net was developed by a bunch of fabulous developers at Knallgrau New Media Solutions, Vienna, Austria. You can take a look at their blogs: Benjamin, Mihi and Thomas. Smeidu did a wonderful design and smi sat back watching all this happen.

Tornado Web Server
Tornado is an open source version of the scalable, non-blocking web server and tools that power FriendFeed. The FriendFeed application is written using a web framework that looks a bit like web.py or Google's webapp, but with additional tools and optimizations to take advantage of the underlying non-blocking infrastructure.

The framework is distinct from most mainstream web server frameworks (and certainly most Python frameworks) because it is non-blocking and reasonably fast. Because it is non-blocking and uses epoll or kqueue, it can handle thousands of simultaneous standing connections, which means it is ideal for real-time web services. We built the web server specifically to handle FriendFeed's real-time features — every active user of FriendFeed maintains an open connection to the FriendFeed servers. (For more information on scaling servers to support thousands of clients, see The C10K problem.)
