Disable the Internal Screen on a MacBook Pro or Air in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
To disable the internal screen for OS X Lion based laptops, launch the Terminal and enter the following command:

sudo nvram boot-args="iog=0x0"

You’ll need to reboot for changes to take effect, and the internal display will then be completely disabled regardless of whether the Mac is open or closed.

To undo this, you can go back to the Terminal and enter:

sudo nvram -d boot-args

Then reboot again, or you can just zap PRAM by holding down Command+Option+P+R during reboot, which clears out the boot-args as well.

OSX Timemachine and Samba/Windows share « Hupio’s Weblog
Some have asked about restoring from a backup done this way. I just figured that out.

I’m not sure if it’s possible to do the restore during the system install, but it can be done after through Applications->Utilities->Migration Assistant.

You don’t have to have Time Machine configured to use the Samba share, but you do have to mount the Samba share in Finder, as described in this article. Then double-click the sparse bundle. This will verify and mount it. Now run Migration Assistant, and select “From a Time Machine backup or other disk.” Your backup will appear there, and you can restore from it.

Stevey's Blog Rants: Settling the OS X focus-follows-mouse debate
The first takeaway is that Apple OS engineers don't want you to do stuff that they don't want you to do, and they specifically define "stuff they don't want you to do" as "stuff they don't think you want to do." This is actually endemic to Apple forums in general. Whenever someone says "I want focus follows mouse behavior!", some people inevitably reply that "you really don't want to do this". It's that whole "we designed it the right way for everyone" mentality that turns off so many would-be Mac users.
