Voyagers' Never-Ending Journey
"Should extraterrestrials ever intercept it, that fact may speak volumes. It suggests that however primitive and ignorant we were, something in us was expansive enough to consider that we were not the universe’s only scientists, nor its only explorers."

Two Ways To Think About Nothing
"I'm going to show you two kinds of nothing. The first is a small patch of space, way, way out in the universe, remote from everything, with nothing in it ... And next, I'm going to show you a painting. Except it isn't a painting, it's a canvas, on which you see...absolutely nothing."

Planetary Landscapes
"In the last decade, the multimedia artist Michael Benson has staged a series of large-scale exhibitions of planetary landscape photography. He takes raw image data from deep-space missions run by NASA and the European Space Agency and digitally processes it to create large-format landscapes." from NYT.

Space Ipsum
"Have you ever needed filler text, but wished you had more exciting options then the generic 'lorem ipsum' variations? If so, you are in luck! We’ve created this space themed random content generator that uses phrases from historic moments in spaceflight."

Roving to the Beat of Their Own Drum
"The sounds were made by converting the accelerometer data to WAV file and then finally to mp3. These vibrations are extremely low frequency, much lower than the human ear can hear. In order to hear these vibrations, engineers have sped them up about 1,000 times, much like playing a tape in fast forward on an old tape recorder."

Chromoscope
Chromoscope has been created using public-domain datasets from a number of all-sky astronomy projects. It lets you easily move around the sky and fade between wavelengths using a simple user-interface to illustrate the similarities and differences between what is visible at each wavelength.

Solar System Scale Model
Unlike most models, which are compressed for viewing convenience, the planets here are also shown at their true-to-scale average distances from the Sun. That makes this page rather large - on an ordinary 72 dpi monitor it's just over half a mile wide, making it possibly one of the largest pages on the web.

intergalactic transport | jimmy mcbride
they say in space, "no one can hear you scream." well, they can't hear the low drone of the internal power generators kick on again when you're half way to nowhere. i can. i work for a shipping company called "intergalactic transport." i travel back and forth from rock to rock carrying those two all important gems- salt and vinegar. there's a lot of time to kill up here so i downloaded a grandma program and she's been teaching me how to quilt. there's no "log cabins" or "poinsettias" around so i just stare out the window until something catches my eye. it's nice every once in a while to shoot the shit with a fellow traveler, or get caught up in the new dawn celebrations in the outer rim, but mostly it's just me; with a lot of time on my hands.

Living Off the Land
Off-planet, “green” lifestyles aren’t just fashionable, they’re required. Any eventual residents of a lunar base or Martian habitat will almost certainly be vegetarians, and thrift will be crucial for survival. “You must strive to recycle virtually every atom of everything that you’ve brought with you,” Dixon says. “And the technology required to achieve that is exactly what we need here on Earth to reduce our environmental imprint and create more sustainable ecosystems, all so we can manage to survive here a bit longer than we otherwise might.”
