Astrophysics Update 2
"Astrophysics Updates" is intended to serve the information needs of professional astronomers and postgraduate students about areas of astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology that are rich and active research spheres. Observational methods and the latest results of astronomical research are presented as well as their theoretical foundations and interrelations. The contributed commissioned articles are written by leading exponents in a format that will appeal to professional astronomers and astrophysicists who are interested in topics outside their own specific areas of research. This collection of timely reviews may also attract the interest of advanced amateur astronomers seeking scientifically rigorous coverage.

Helmut Jerjen's Galaxy Luminosity Function Engine
Welcome to my Galaxy Luminosity Function Engine. You can use the form below to create your own B-band luminosity function (LF) of a volume-limited galaxy population. The assumption is that the shapes of the type-specific LF of ellipticals (E), lenticulars (S0), spirals (Sp), dwarf irregulars (dIrr), and dwarf ellipticals (dE) are invariant of the environment and thus the observed variation of the overall LFs from galaxy clusters to the field has its origin in the different type mixtures (known as the morphology-density relation).

Problems and Solutions in Quantum Mechanics - Cambridge University Press
This collection of solved problems corresponds to the standard topics covered in established undergraduate and graduate courses in Quantum Mechanics. Problems are also included on topics of interest which are often absent in the existing literature. Solutions are presented in considerable detail, to enable students to follow each step. The emphasis is on stressing the principles and methods used, allowing students to master new ways of thinking and problem-solving techniques. The problems themselves are longer than those usually encountered in textbooks and consist of a number of questions based around a central theme, highlighting properties and concepts of interest. For undergraduate and graduate students, as well as those involved in teaching Quantum Mechanics, the book can be used as a supplementary text or as an independent self-study tool.

CERN | Scientific Information Service | Review of Particle Physics
The current form of the Particle properties tables stems directly from a 1957 article in the Annual review of nuclear science, by Gell-Mann and Rosenfeld.

Data on particles were becoming available at an increasing rate, and even before the Annual Review volume was published, Walter H. Barkas and A. H. Rosenfeld decided to make the first update of the table of masses and mean lives. It appeared as Lawrence Radiation Laboratory Report UCRL-8030 (unpublished). Thus 1957 saw the first edition of UCRL-8030: Data for elementary-particle physics.

The first revision of UCRL-8030 was made in 1958, accompanied by a "wallet card".

In 1963, Matts Roos's Tables of elementary particles and resonant states illustrated that it was no longer possible for a single person to compile data critically. Thus, as he saw the Rosenfeld et al.'s computerized draft of the 1964 edition, he suggested combining efforts.

Volume Integrals over n-Dimensional Ellipsoids
In a paper [1] on quantum theory, the Autor had to find a general formula for the surfaces of spheres in n-dimensional complex spaces. Since the focus was then strictly physical, the math has been reduced to a bare minimum.

This Note is the first one of a series exploring the mathematical aspects of the topic in more detail and in a step-by-step manner. It focuses on the evaluation of integrals of products of powers of Cartesian vector components over the volumes of n-dimensional spheres and ellipsoids in real, n-dimensional Euclidean spaces. The integrals tackled here are expressed by means explicit formulae which merit attention on their own.

Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry (RBS) Theory Tutorial - Evans Analytical Group (EAG)
Rutherford Backscattering (RBS) is based on collisions between atomic nuclei and derives its name from Lord Ernest Rutherford, who in 1911 was the first to present the concept of atoms having nuclei. It involves measuring the number and energy of ions in a beam which backscatter after colliding with atoms in the near-surface region of a sample at which the beam has been targeted.

WANDERING STARS
This notebook-cum-workbook provides an introduction to those profound and still-developing modern studies. Written by an expert in the field, it is pitched at a level suitable for beginning students. It is designed particularly for self-study but can also provide background support for students attending lecture courses or teachers developing such courses. The reader is encouraged to add to the arguments of the book as the subject develops. A special feature here is a substantial glossary of terms and people which serves as a starting point for further entries. Wandering Stars is a key to unlock the door to an exciting and fascinating universe which is still the object of active discovery.
