Acta Historica Astronomiae

[1110.1556] Jewish Problems
This is a special collection of problems that were given to select applicants during oral entrance exams to the math department of Moscow State University. These problems were designed to prevent Jews and other undesirables from getting a passing grade. Among problems that were used by the department to blackball unwanted candidate students, these problems are distinguished by having a simple solution that is difficult to find. Using problems with a simple solution protected the administration from extra complaints and appeals. This collection therefore has mathematical as well as historical value.

Kutski's take on the Amen Break
There are just a handful of common threads that bind the numerous genres and sub-genres of dance music all together in a coherent mass of arse shaking and floor stomping. It matters not if you're spinning vinyl to underground Hip Hop heads, or performing next level controllerism on an iPad - drop the Amen Break at the right time, and all hell breaks loose on the floor. Such is the greatness of the classic 6 seconds of the Winstons "Amen Brother" track that entire genres of music have been based on it. So BBC Radio 1's Kutski dug deeper and made an hour long radio documentary into the Amen phenomenon and finds himself questioning the morality of borrowing samples.

Urban Exploration - Undercity.org
As an urban historian & photographer, I try to peel back the layers of a city to see what's underneath. From the tops of bridges to the depths of sewer tunnels, these explorations of the urban environment help me puzzle together the interconnected, multi-dimensional history and complexity of the great metropolises of the world.

Mathematics in Movies
This is a collection of movie clips in which Mathematics appears. I'm collecting DVDs and VHS tapes of such movies. This is a working document to be extended over time. I started this page during spring break 2006. See also the page "Begin of lectures in college teaching" and "End of lectures in college teaching" and "Examples of good talks". To see the movies larger, to see it on the iphone or include it ina presentation, chose the quicktime ipod version, which are files with .m4v extension. (Media RSS link).

Deutschlandfunk - Wissenschaft im Brennpunkt - The Physical Tourist

Alternative Tourism Group
Palestine is a unique country from all perspectives; history, religions, cultures etc. What made this country so famous from old times until our day is its rich history related to the old human presence in this area as well as it is the home of the 3 monotheistic world religions; Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Not only that, but also because of the never ending wars that this country experienced and still experiences. We in Palestine and in the Alternative Tourism Group (ATG) would like to invite you all to come here, learn about history, religions, conflicts, culture, traditions etc. In this place, one can have a life experience that can never be found elsewhere.
