This is Pytebeat, a piece of software I wrote for doing livecoding bytebeat performances --- that is, writing tiny programs that generate music while the program is running, in front of an audience.

PGFPlots draws high--quality function plots in normal or logarithmic scaling with a user-friendly interface directly in TeX. The user supplies axis labels, legend entries and the plot coordinates for one or more plots and PGFPlots applies axis scaling, computes any logarithms and axis ticks and draws the plots. It supports line plots, scatter plots, piecewise constant plots, bar plots, area plots, mesh-- and surface plots, patch plots, contour plots, quiver plots, histogram plots, polar axes, ternary diagrams, smith charts and some more.

Processing is an open source programming language and environment for people who want to create images, animations, and interactions. Initially developed to serve as a software sketchbook and to teach fundamentals of computer programming within a visual context, Processing also has evolved into a tool for generating finished professional work. Naïve upsampling of pixel art images leads to unsatisfactory results. Our algorithm extracts a smooth, resolution-independent vector representation from the image which is suitable for high-resolution display devices

xyscan is a tool for scientist in the need to extract data points, i.e. numeric values, from a plot. It allows to scan the plots and extract data points including the size of the error bars (both in x and y). It can handle plots with linear and logarithmic scales. In fact xyscan can be used for extracting numeric values from any kind of 2D technical drawings.

SAOImage DS9 is an astronomical imaging and data visualization application. DS9 supports FITS images and binary tables, multiple frame buffers, region manipulation, and many scale algorithms and colormaps. It provides for easy communication with external analysis tasks and is highly configurable and extensible via XPA and SAMP.

APLpy (the Astronomical Plotting Library in Python) is a Python module aimed at producing publication-quality plots of astronomical imaging data in FITS format. The module uses Matplotlib, a powerful and interactive plotting package. It is capable of creating output files in several graphical formats, including EPS, PDF, PS, PNG, and SVG.

Ekee produces images interactively from LaTeX expressions. Drag and drop in several common formats (PNG, SVG, PDF, EPS) to other applications is supported. Ekee can reopen the equations it has created in PNG format. It is free software, released under the GPL.

EpsTk stands for "Encapsulated PostSript Toolkit". The codebase consists of pure M-files (Octave or MATLAB script files), which may be used to create most standard 2D scientific graphics (line charts, bar charts, polar plots, contour plots, etc.). The M-files write EPS files.

ConvertICO is a Free Online Converter - fast (you don't need to install the software and you don't need to register) and easy to use (you need only 3 clicks to convert the PNG or ICO file) - which allows you to convert PNG to ICO (Windows Vista compatible) and ICO to PNG format files.

Of course, these are proposals designed to work with the Transport for London branding, not for the Olympics, and I think work perfectly in that context. For the Olympics itself, for all their cleverness and simplicity, they’d be a bit too classic Olympics, a little too safe. Perhaps.
