ORBIS
Spanning one-ninth of the earth's circumference across three continents, the Roman Empire ruled a quarter of humanity through complex networks of political power, military domination and economic exchange. These extensive connections were sustained by premodern transportation and communication technologies that relied on energy generated by human and animal bodies, winds, and currents.
Conventional maps that represent this world as it appears from space signally fail to capture the severe environmental constraints that governed the flows of people, goods and information. Cost, rather than distance, is the principal determinant of connectivity.
For the first time, ORBIS allows us to express Roman communication costs in terms of both time and expense. By simulating movement along the principal routes of the Roman road network, the main navigable rivers, and hundreds of sea routes in the Mediterranean, Black Sea and coastal Atlantic, this interactive model reconstructs the duration and financial cost of travel in antiquity.
Taking account of seasonal variation and accommodating a wide range of modes and means of transport, ORBIS reveals the true shape of the Roman world and provides a unique resource for our understanding of premodern history.

Hitech Lucroit Holder System
There are a number of wide angle lenses where it is not possible to fit standard filters or holders because the way the barrel of the lens is configured. Prominent amongst these is the Nikon 14-24 but there are many others including the Canon 4L and the Sigma 8-16 and 12-24.

The new Hitech Lucroit holder was designed by a Spanish Engineer (who was also a photographer) who wanted to find a solution to both the Nikon 14-24 problem and that of other similar wide angle lenses.

The holder fits on the lens by a bayonet mount with a retaining rubber ring which holds it in place. It is designed to take a completely new range of 165mm standard filters with grads in 165x200mm (Filters can be purchased here).

This means that, unlike other systems, it will not vignett on these wide angle lenses.

5.6in 1280x800 On-Camera Field Monitor - the DP6 by SmallHD
First and foremost, the ultimate purpose of a field monitor is to be able to see what you are shooting. Shooting in HD and monitoring in SD is, we feel, a step in the wrong direction. That’s why even with a 5.6 inch screen, the DP6 delivers HD at 1280x800 resolution, making it the smallest HD monitor available. Simply put this means you truly see what you get, so there are no surprises in the editing room.

Z-Finder EVF (Electronic Viewfinder)
Zacuto is transforming the form factor of DSLR cameras for video with our electronic viewfinder. The Zacuto EVF is a 3.2” high resolution monitor that is used in conjunction with all the Z-Finder models. This electronic viewfinder is compatible with all cameras with an HDMI output including the Panasonic AG-AF100, Sony FS100, Sony F3, Scarlet, Red One & Epic. This electronic viewfinder allows you to operate the DSLR camera or any camera with an HDMI port, with the correct form factor for video with the camera “in-line” to your rod system (the most stable way) and your eye in the Z-Finder offset. This is the way all film cameras and ENG video cameras were operated and we, at Zacuto, believe this should be the way DSLR cameras should be operated. It will enhance the stability, give you better resolution, allow you to get your eye where it most comfortably needs to be, enable low mode shooting, shorten your camera package, have your electronic viewfinder in the back of a dolly or crane, detached from the rig for car shots and more. Depending on how you want to shoot depends on where you should position your electronic viewfinder, let’s discuss:

Photography Insurance Australia
There isn't a lot of choice when it comes to finding an insurer to cover photography equipment in Australia, unlike in the U.S. and UK where there is a large selection of insurers to choose from that offer specialist photography insurance cover.

Due to the limited selection of photography insurers in Australia finding the right policy is usually a tedious and time consuming task which is reason for the creation of this website. To save you time we've done the research and have come up with a list insurers and brokers that offer policies for professional and amateur photographers.

Markdown is a simple markup language used to convert plain text into HTML.

MultiMarkdown is a derivative of Markdown that adds new syntax features, such as footnotes, tables, and metadata. Additionally, it offers mechanisms to convert plain text into LaTeX in addition to HTML.

peg-multimarkdown is an implementation of MultiMarkdown derived from John MacFarlane's peg-markdown. It makes use of a parsing expression grammar (PEG), and is written in C. It should compile for most any (major) operating system.

Anonymous Pro
Anonymous Pro (2009) is a family of four fixed-width fonts designed especially with coding in mind. Characters that could be mistaken for one another (O, 0, I, l, 1, etc.) have distinct shapes to make them easier to tell apart in the context of source code.

Anonymous Pro also features an international, Unicode-based character set, with support for most Western and European Latin-based languages, Greek, and Cyrillic. It also includes special “box drawing” characters for those who need them.

While Anonymous Pro looks great on Macs, Windows and Linux PCs with antialiasing enabled, it also includes embedded bitmaps for specific pixel sizes (“ppems” in font nerd speak) for both the regular and bold weight. (Since slanted bitmaps look pretty bad and hard to read at the supported sizes, I chose to use the upright bitmaps for the italics as well.) Bitmaps are included for these ppems: 10, 11, 12, and 13. See the usage notes (at right) for info on what point sizes these ppems correspond to on Mac and Windows.

Fountain | A markup language for screenwriting.
Fountain is a simple markup syntax for writing, editing and sharing screenplays in plain, human-readable text. Fountain allows you to work on your screenplay anywhere, on any computer or tablet, using any software that edits text files.

Taking its cues from John Gruber’s Markdown, Fountain files are eminently readable. When special syntax is required, it is straightforward and intuitive.

Even when viewed as plain text, your screenplay feels like a screenplay.

Fountain supports everything a screenwriter is likely to need in the early, creative phases of writing. Not included are production features such as MOREs, CONTINUEDs, revision marks, locked pages, or colored pages.

Because it’s just text, Fountain is also a great format for archiving screenplays without worry of file-format obsolescence or incompatibility.

Urban Griller Shop
The SuperFast Thermapen thermometer incorporates a large digital display with a precise read-out of temperature over the range of -49.9 to 299.9 °C with a 0.1 °C resolution and an accuracy of ±0.4 °C. The resolution can be switched to 1 °C, if required, via a switch in the battery compartment. The thermometer will power off automatically after ten minutes, maximising battery life. This feature can be disabled if not required.
The casing is washable and includes 'Biomaster' additive that reduces bacterial growth and the ergonomic rubber seal minimises the risk of the ingress of water, dust or food. As well as being water resistant, it is still 'probably' the fastest reading contact thermometer on the market today. The true temperature of a product can be tested in under four seconds.
