l1-Magic
One of the central tenets of signal processing is the Shannon/Nyquist sampling theory: the number of samples needed to capture a signal is dictated by its bandwidth. Very recently, an alternative theory of "compressive sampling"has emerged. By using nonlinear recovery algorithms (based on convex optimization), super-resolved signals and images can be reconstructed from what appears to be highly incomplete data. Compressive sampling shows us how data compression can be implicitly incorporated into the data acquisition process, a gives us a new vantage point for a diverse set of applications including accelerated tomographic imaging, analog-to-digital conversion, and digital photography.

Measuring Measures: Learning About Statistical Learning
I get a lot of inbound requests for book recommendations from people who want to either get into research, or better understand it so they can build high quality supporting systems for research and analytics.  The typical desire is participate in some form of what statisticians call inference, or what machine learning people call learning (the two are more or less the same).

Programmers Need To Learn Statistics Or I Will Kill Them All
I have a major pet peeve that I need to confess. I go insane when I hear programmers talking about statistics like they know shit when it’s clearly obvious they do not. I’ve been studying it for years and years and still don’t think I know anything. This article is my call for all programmers to finally learn enough about statistics to at least know they don’t know shit. I have no idea why, but their confidence in their lacking knowledge is only surpassed by their lack of confidence in their personal appearance.

The R programming language for programmers coming from other programming languages
I have written software professionally in perhaps a dozen programming languages, and the hardest language for me to learn has been R. The language is actually fairly simple, but it is unconventional. These notes are intended to make the language easier to learn for someone used to more commonly used languages such as C++, Java, Perl, etc.

Mathematics Goes To the Movies
This page complements our book with the same title, which will be published by Springer Verlag. Below is a list of titles and short descriptions of over 400 movies and TV episodes that contain mathematics. Over time, more titles will be added. And, more titles will be hyperlinked to individual pages containing more comprehensive detail; included are the approximate times where the dialogue occurs (though these times may differ in other releases).

Wolfram Blog : Droste Effect with Mathematica
Take a look at this Demonstration using the original Droste box artwork. But much more interesting results can be achieved when you get complex analysis involved. M.C. Escher was the first to popularize applying conformal mapping to images, but with computers we can easily apply the same ideas to photographs, to get results like this:

PARI/GP Development Headquarters
PARI/GP is a widely used computer algebra system designed for fast computations in number theory (factorizations, algebraic number theory, elliptic curves...), but also contains a large number of other useful functions to compute with mathematical entities such as matrices, polynomials, power series, algebraic numbers etc., and a lot of transcendental functions. PARI is also available as a C library to allow for faster computations.
