BD Horror News - [Random Cool] Sexy End-Of-The-World Pin-Up Calendar 'Apocalypse Tomorrow'!
february 2012 by jtth
Russian (visionary) artist Andrew Tarusov is taking on the American dream while destroying it simultaneously.
The artist has created his own calendar that's currently being printed for release later this year (they'll be $25 and can be pre-ordered here). The subject? How about super sexy pin-up girls surviving the apocalypse?!
The Apocalypse Tomorrow 2012 calendar was inspired by famed artist Gil Elvgren, an American painter of pin-up girls, advertising and illustration. He passed away way back in 1980. Below you'll find images of all 12 months. Click any to see it larger.

december 2009 by jtth
“The original Gauntlet was released with no ending. The hundred or so levels were randomised and looped for as long as play lasted. Atari saw Gauntlet as a process, a game that was played for its own sake and not to reach completion. The adventurers continue forever until their life drains out, their quest ultimately hopeless.”

Why I Slept with 1300 Women | OPEN Magazine
october 2009 by jtth
The affections of a woman have to be won through the peacock dance of success and refinement, or through the deceit of lies. And then sustained for years through many strange virtues, or more lies. The price of love, above all, is monogamy. One man decided to break free. And he slept with over 1,300 women paying them over £115,000. This is his story.

Consider this sex chair from 1890, commissioned by Edward VII of Britain. It's a strange object, designed for orgiastic indulgence, though I've yet to determine how it was best used. I can see easy access, with stirrups designed for the free display of pussy, and what look like foot grips for traction. It could be used for cunnilingus, for sex with multiples, perhaps for an up-skirt peepshow. It's both luxurious and perplexing.

The looks del.icio.us project is my first attempt to combine graphics design with programming. The concept is to see how users develop and sustain their tagging methodologies on del.icio.us. I'm not a formal art student or have a computer science degree. I'm just curious.

In New York, we are very occupied with getting from one place to another. I wondered: could a human-like object traverse sidewalks and streets along with us, and in so doing, create a narrative about our relationship to space and our willingness to interact with what we find in it? More importantly, how could our actions be seen within a larger context of human connection that emerges from the complexity of the city itself? To answer these questions, I built robots.

I Am Sitting in a Room - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
december 2008 by jtth
I Am Sitting in a Room (1970) is one of composer Alvin Lucier's best known works, featuring Lucier recording himself narrating a text, and then playing the recording back into the room, re-recording it. The new recording is then played back and re-recorded, and this process is repeated. Since all rooms have characteristic resonance or formant frequencies (e.g. different between a large hall and a small room), the effect is that certain frequencies are emphasized as they resonate in the room, until eventually the words become unintelligible, replaced by the pure resonant harmonies and tones of the room itself. The recited text describes this process in action—it begins "I am sitting in a room, different from the one you are in now. I am recording the sound of my speaking voice," and the rationale, concluding, "I regard this activity not so much as a demonstration of a physical fact, but more as a way to smooth out any irregularities my speech might have," referring to his own stuttering

The Agrippa Files
december 2008 by jtth
Agrippa (a book of the dead) appeared in 1992 as a collaboration between artist Dennis Ashbaugh, author William Gibson, and publisher Kevin Begos, Jr. The Agrippa Files is a scholarly site that presents selected pages from the original art book; a unique archive of materials dating from the book’s creation and early reception; an emulation of Gibson’s included poem in its original born-and-die-digital form (it ran from a diskette once before encrypting itself into oblivion); a simulation of what the book’s intended “fading images” might have looked like; a video of the 1992 “transmission” of the work; a “virtual lightbox” for comparing and studying pages; full-text scholarly essays and interviews; an annotated bibliography of scholarship, press coverage, interviews, and other material; a detailed bibliographic description of the book; and a discussion forum.

Boris Artzybasheff
november 2008 by jtth
Fought with anti-communist White Russians before immigrating to US (he spoke no English and arrived with 14 cents). A chameleon, able to adapt different styles, from children's books to portraits. Renowned for his ability to turn machines into living beings (and living beings into who-knows-what). Advisor to the Psychological Warfare branch during WW II. A profuse illustrator for the majors: Life, Fortune, and Time (producing 200+ covers for the last). Illustrated 50 books, including those he wrote himself, notably "As I See." Plentiful ad work for Xerox, Shell Oil, Pan Am, Casco Power Tools, Alcoa Steamship lines, Parke Davis, Avco Manufacturing, Scotch Tape, Wickwire Spencer Steele, Vultee Aircraft, World Airways, and Parker Pens. Mechanics Illustrated profiled him with a cover story in 1954, "When Machines Come to Life."

Ten Thousand Cents
september 2008 by jtth
"Ten Thousand Cents" is a digital artwork that creates a representation of a $100 bill. Using a custom drawing tool, thousands of individuals working in isolation from one another painted a tiny part of the bill without knowledge of the overall task. Workers were paid one cent each via Amazon's Mechanical Turk distributed labor tool. The total labor cost to create the bill, the artwork being created, and the reproductions available for purchase are all $100. The work is presented as a video piece with all 10,000 parts being drawn simultaneously. The project explores the circumstances we live in, a new and uncharted combination of digital labor markets, "crowdsourcing," "virtual economies," and digital reproduction.

Colorful Animation Expressions: Color in 101 Dalmatians: an introduction
july 2008 by jtth
Over the past few weeks I’ve been analyzing 101 Dalmatians shot by shot. Of course, most of what I’ll comment on could be found in any good film or painting. But I’m mainly interested in how the subtext of this specific story is told through color.
