The NYTPicker looks like a fair, thoughtful critique blog focused solely on the New York Times
Unlike the multitude of mouthfrothing right wingers or woe-is-me media-is-dying types, these people clearly want the Times to be the best it can be.

Why Pentagon talking heads piece in New York Times had no legs
"the biggest hurdle for the story's impact may have been one journalists have trouble seeing. Many Americans confronted with stories of media manipulation by government officials aren't, at this point, shocked and awed. Instead they've come to expect it."

LA Times editor in chief Jim O'Shea fired
Reportedly over refusing to carry out $4M in budget cuts, which would have most certainly led to some layoffs. I worked with Jim in Chicago and almost again in LA, he's a top notch journalist and editor. This is certainly a loss for the Times.

Hyperlocal is just a fad, but what the word represents is nothing new
