Some thoughtful, straightforward answers, I'm optimistic that the Times will do well under Russ.

Apparently, the "FBI documents" they were relying on for their story were forged by an imprisoned con man.

Still worth a read even thought the LA Times just announced Russ Stanton, former innovation editor, as the new editor in chief. I met and talked with Russ once, he's a smart guy who will serve the paper well.

Reportedly over refusing to carry out $4M in budget cuts, which would have most certainly led to some layoffs. I worked with Jim in Chicago and almost again in LA, he's a top notch journalist and editor. This is certainly a loss for the Times.

Sold Times-Mirror for $8B seven years ago, now trying to buy the entire Trib for $7.6B. Wow.

A cleaner look and a new entertainment section? Seriously? The new design is still way too cluttered and, I can't tell, but I think they're still using that registration firewall. Sigh.

There's been a lot of hand wringing over newspaper death and the loss of staff jobs. The LA Times staff was enormous, this is a big cut, though.

Some great thoughts on where the LA Times went wrong on how to get better. While I agree that it's great that a big company was experimenting with this, I still think they went about it in a really dumb wayk, though.
