NBC and Microsoft want to lock down your Zune so you can only play "allowed" content
"Apple refused to cooperate with NBC on building filters into its iPod player to remove pirated movies and videos. Microsoft, by contrast, will accept NBC’s pricing scheme and will work with it to try to develop a copyright “cop” to be installed on

If you bought anything from MSN Music, better listen to it before August 2008
"If you attempt to transfer your songs to additional computers after August 31, 2008, those songs will not successfully play." This totally bodes well for Zune. No, seriously, I'm sure it'll be fine.

Music wants to be free
The Economist on Jobs' DRM shot across the bow. Smartly points out that a) this is a bold move for the industry leader to effectively kill a competitive advantage and b) the iPod/iTunes combo is still the best in the biz, with our without DRM

Apple - Thoughts on Music
Steve Jobs on the state of online music, downloads and DRM. One of his lackey's should've highlighted the word "DRMs" though because it has a sort of Ted Stevens-esque quality to it.

Quickest Patch Ever
Microsoft patches DRM faster than it patches security holes. A bit misleading, IMO, given that it's probably a great deal easier to fix this one bug than the myriad holes scattershout throughout Windows XP, but an interesting point nonetheless.

Mossberg on DRM
One problem with Walt's grocery store analogy - unlike record labels, there aren't just four grocery stores in the world who work in conjunction with one another to fix prices and generally screw over customers at every opportunity.

Yet another reason I stopped listening to Dave Matthews (even though the CD supposedly works fine on a Mac). You know, instead of bitching about Apple, the band could do the right thing and simply not use DRM.
