How rooms and architecture affect mood and creativity | ouno
his story is from the April edition of Scientific American, in an article on neuroscience by Emily Anthes titled “How Room Designs Affect Your Work and Mood.” Salk was so certain of the effect of Assisi’s architecture on his work that he later hired Louis Kahn to build the now famous Salk Institute (photos below), and the influence of Assisi is clearly visible – the simple, harmonious colonnades, the long vistas, the pale buttery colour of the stone. Some of the scientific findings in the article confirm what we might already have guessed, while others are more surprising.

About « The Craft Begins
I’m a crafty personality, in more ways than one. I’ve never known a universe in which I wasn’t happy unless I was making something. Usually I’m fortunate enough to be surrounded by lots of crafty fun materials, and if I’m not, I make do with what I have. Usually, when I have nothing, I write. Or sometimes I make sculptures from whatever is lying around. It’s an addiction.

Typography - 20 Free High Quality Script Fonts | Think Design
Hello all! Hope all is going well. This past weekend was my birthday, and we did a bit of over-celebrating! (Which is the main reason there was no post this weekend :) ) Now I’m back to bring yall some great, high-quality free Script fonts. As with all free fonts, its often hard to find really good ones. But I think I’ve managed to compile a very good list of free script fonts, from handwritten to grunge. I’m hoping this saves yall a bit of ever-important time! I’m including a preview and download link for each font. They are all free for commercial use to my knowledge, but check the licensing just to be sure.

24 ways: Compose to a Vertical Rhythm
The basic unit of vertical space is line height. Establishing a suitable line height that can be applied to all text on the page, be it heading, body copy or sidenote, is the key to a solid dependable vertical rhythm, which will engage and guide the reader down the page. To see this in action, I’ve created an example with headings, footnotes and sidenotes.

Get the Look UltraHip / AdamPolselli.com
Sometimes you want your design to be vibrant… to scream. UltraHip is just the look. It’s very sleek and ultra contemporary. Think posh night clubs in Los Angeles, Paris, or New York City: vivid colors set off by charcoal grays, combining to form atmospheres that encourage dancing, partying, and lots of fun. Use this look to bring a personal site or blog to life, or for a hip corporation whose target audience is of a younger age group. Have fun with this one!

Get the Look Chic Simplicity / AdamPolselli.com
Chic simplicity. What exactly is “chic simplicity,” you ask? It is somewhat of an oxymoron: simple yet sophisticated. The design exudes simplicity through its forms, fonts, and layout, and sophistication through its textures, details, and tastefulness. It’s a fantastic “look” that can be used for almost every genre of websites: a professional, yet hip, corporate site; a stylish, yet clean, commercial site; or just a fun and colorful personal site. Whichever style you’re going for, this “look” will fit.
