A photo of the group taken Nov. 24, 1950 appeared in Life's Jan. 15, 1951 issue, captioned "Irascible Group of Advanced Artists Led Fight Against Show." Summary: Pictured from left rear: Willem De Kooning, Adolph Gottlieb, Ad Reinhardt, Hedda Sterne; next row: Richard Pousette-Dart, William Baziotes, Jimmy Ernst, Jackson Pollock, James Brooks, Clyfford Still, Robert Motherwell, Bradley Walker Tomlin; foreground: Theodoros Stamos, Barnett Newman and Mark Rothko. Lincoln Place Parties Sign Settlement Agreement | Santa Monica Mirror (September 2009)
"Party representatives decline further comment on the settlement details, as the agreement is subject to approval by some 162 households and there are open issues involving the City of Los Angeles which is a party to some litigation and which must approve certain development aspects. A court hearing involving the City’s role is scheduled for September 23. Court documents obtained by the Mirror indicate that the pending settlement involves not only the return of many dispossessed tenants to Lincoln Place and the long-delayed rehabilitation and redevelopment of the property, but the payment of settlement money to be allocated among tenants."

Curbed LA: Return, Rehabilitate: More Lincoln Place Settlement Details
looks like the tenants won some significant victories and that the buildings will remain. but only 11 of the units are still inhabited and the tenants have been fighting for over 20 years. we need more victories. many many more. and more solid ones.

Luxury on a Budget ..., Recommended, Jul 15, 2006, apartment review of Lincoln Place Apartments in Venice, CA
these websites often have pretty interesting and revealing comments: "That was the slogan for these beautiful apartments that were made for WWII Veterans after the war. The standards were so much higher in the 50's that even luxury apartments, condos and homes today do not measure up to the experience of living at Lincoln Place. It has 3 times been confirmed a state historic resource but the owner continues on its 4th lawsuit against the State of California for the designation wich would only benefit the owner with tax breaks etc. AIMCO is the largest APARTMENT management company in the US and they want to tear Lincoln Place down to build condos in an affordable housing crisis. Just 3% of tenants who are dislocated from an apartment to make way for a condo can actually buy their home."

Martin Beck—Panel 2: "Nothing better than a touch of ecology and catastrophe to unite the social classes…" / e-flux (2008)
"The exhibition's subtitle quotes from a statement delivered by the so-called French Group at the 1970 IDCA. Written by Jean Baudrillard and partly aimed at the conference's advisor Reyner Banham, [it] questioned the motives behind [IDCA's] embrace of ecological issues. Since its inception in the early 1950s, [IDCA] had acted as an exchange platform between renowned designers and architects with business leaders and corporate magnates to discuss relations between design and industrial production. The French Group argued that the conference's new found interest in ecology masked the larger political struggles of the time. By diverting ideology "onto rivers and national parks" rather than "class discrimination", "wars" and "neo-imperialist conflicts", the conference would bypass the real challenges that society faces."
