Rep. Anthony Weiner is expected to pull the plug on a once-promising political career shattered by a cybersex scandal on Thursday afternoon.

The final act of Weiner's spectacular fall is expected to take place at 2 p.m. at his Sheepshead Bay office in New York City.

Weiner staffers have already cleared out of their Washington, D.C. offices, locking the door behind them.

Weiner told friends he would step down after a torturous, three-week stretch during which his perverse self-portraits and sordid sexts to online female friends were revealed, sources said.

Word that Weiner was quitting came as top Democrats were preparing to turn the screws and strip him of his committee assignments.

Reports out of New York Monday indicated that Congressman Anthony Weiner is now at least exploring the possibility of stepping down - this after that new batch of photos came out over the weekend and Democratic leaders said publicly for the first time that he should go.

The new photos, released by the website TMZ.com, show the congressman in various stages of undress at a Capitol Hill gym reserved only for House Members.

The New York Daily News is reporting that a source close to Weiner said the congressman is reconsidering his stance, after the incessant media coverage and the disclosure of even more illicit photos. Congressional staffers say Weiner may not make a decision until after his wife, Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin, returns Wednesday from a trip to Africa.

Rep. Anthony Weiner is requesting a short leave of absence from his congressional job to seek professional treatment as Democratic leaders in the House call for him to step down after he admitted he exchanged online messages with a Delaware teenager.

These were just the latest developments in a Twitter-fueled sex scandal that has dominated the news for days and made congressional Democrats increasingly uneasy as they keep confronting more questions about Weiner's behavior and future with every new detail that emerges. But Weiner made it clear that he has no intention of resigning yet.

Representative Anthony D. Weiner planned to check himself into a treatment center on Saturday after House Democratic leaders, including Nancy Pelosi, called on him to resign and suggested psychiatric counseling.

Police on Friday afternoon came to the home of a 17-year-old high school junior to ask her about direct online communications she has had with Rep. Anthony Weiner.

Two officers from the New Castle County Police Department arrived at the girl's home around 4:30 p.m. and asked to speak with the girl's mother about the daughter's contact with Weiner. Another officer appeared at the home a short time later. A FoxNews.com reporter was at the home when the police arrived.

The girl, whose name is being withheld because she is a minor, told FoxNews.com, "I'm doing OK."

The police left the home after about 30 minutes, followed by the daughter and mother, who left in a separate car. It was not clear if the mother and daughter were going to continue the conversation with police at another location.

Amid increasing calls for Rep. Anthony Weiner to resign, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi says the decision should be up to the congressman and his New York constituents.
The former speaker said in San Francisco that she believes the decision should be made by "the individual member" and the people in his district.
Weiner, a seven-term Democrat, has admitted sending sexually explicit photos and messages over the Internet to a half dozen women over the past three years. Pelosi has asked the House Ethics Committee to investigate whether Weiner used any government resources.
Weiner told a newspaper Thursday he would not resign. At least nine House members and three senators said he should quit.
Two former Democratic Party chairmen also said he should resign.

Even if scandal-stained Rep. Anthony Weiner didn't want to stay in office, he needs to stay in office.
Unlike many of his peers in the House, Weiner doesn't have a business or even a law degree to fall back on.

Weiner, 46, took home $156,117 in 2010, according to his federal tax returns released by his staff.

His humiliated wife, Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, earned $154,000 in 2009, federal records show.

He owes between $10,000 and $15,000 on his American Express card, according to his most recent financial-disclosure forms.

If he steps down, he could grovel to cable TV execs for talking-head "analyst" gigs that hopefully pay more than the $825 he gets for appearing on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher."

But with Weiner's reputation in ruins, other lucrative jobs may be hard to get.

"He would most likely have to go to friends in the business sector, but he doesn't have a financial background," said political consultant Joseph Mercurio.

He's been caught with his pants down.

An apparent photo of Rep. Anthony Weiner's penis made its way onto the Internet today after it was tweeted by two radio DJs.

Andrew Breitbart, the conservative blogger who had a copy of the photo and exposed Weiner as a Facebook perv, showed the photo to Sirus XM shock jocks Opie and Anthony during an appearance this morning.

Breitbart, who said he would not publish the photo on his website BigGovernment.com earlier this week, reportedly showed the DJs the pic on his iPhone.

The radio DJ's took a snapshot of the pic, which was published on Gawker.com.

New Yorker’s first impression is that embattled Rep. Anthony Weiner should not resign his post.

According to a survey of 500 New York City registered voters conducted by New York 1 and Marist College, only 30 percent say Weiner should resign. 51 percent of respondents said he should stay in his position and 18 percent said they were not sure.

"It’s worth keeping in mind that New York is overwhelmingly Democratic. Partisanship can run high in this town. Moral outrage, maybe less so,” said ABC News pollster Gary Langer of Langer Research Associates.

While the slim majority of New York voters said Weiner should not resign, he has gotten less support among his colleagues.

Weiner and former porn star Ginger Lee exchanged scores of sexual emails over a long period of time.  When the underwear scandal broke on May 28, Lee began receiving calls from the media, and Weiner was more than happy to help her control the situation ... by lying.

On June 2, Weiner emailed Lee, "Do you need to talk to a professional PR type person to give u advice?  I can have someone on my team call. [Yeah, my team is doing great. Ugh]."
It's unclear if Weiner's PR team is from his Congressional staff.  If so, Weiner could run afoul of House Ethics Rules as well as the law.

Embattled Rep. Anthony Weiner admitted to posting lewd photos of himself on Twitter at a Monday afternoon press conference.

While addressing the media at the Sheraton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan, Weiner made the following statement: “Last Friday night I tweeted a photograph of myself that I intended to send as direct message as part of a joke to a woman in Seattle. Once I realized I posted it to Twitter, I panicked, I  took it down and said that I had been hacked. I then continued with that story to stick to that story which was a hugely regrettable mistake.”

Representative Anthony Weiner admitted on Monday to sending a lewd photo of himself to a 21-year-old female college student over his Twitter account after previously denying he had done so.

Weiner, a New York Democrat and a leading liberal voice in the House of Representatives who was expected to run for mayor of New York City in 2013, also admitted to inappropriate Internet and telephone conversations with about six women but said none of them developed into a physical relationship.

In the first of several pictures, chats, and emails allegedly sent from Weiner's Blackberry to a new unnamed woman, he is seen with his pet cats above the caption 'Me and my pussys'.

A second image shows him confirming his identity to the unnamed woman.

The tranche of new 'evidence' may undermine the Congressman's explanation that he is the victim of an elaborate 'prank' that saw pictures alleged to be of the Mr Weiner's crotch sent to a pretty 21-year-old student in Seattle last week.

Today's images were allegedly sent to the young woman from AnthonyWeiner@aol.com via BlackBerry on May 4 and 5.

A new woman has come forward with what she claims are photographs, chats, and emails with Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY). These appear to undermine severely Rep. Weiner’s explanations that he was the victim of  a “prank” or a “hack.”

The detailed new information suggests that the Brooklyn- and Queens-based representative and the young woman in question were involved in an online, consensual relationship involving the mutual exchange of intimate photographs.

Though the new product wasn’t a hot item on Saturday, the business’s co-owner Alex Darsey told The Daily Caller that the joint saw an explosion of new customers after the Daily News article appeared in print on Sunday.

As the world has attempted to make sense of Rep. Anthony Weiner’s claim that his Twitter account was hacked, a key clue has been missing: exactly how the notorious groin pic was posted online.

But according to data provided exclusively to The Daily from TweetCongress.org, a nonprofit website that captures each member of Congress’s Twitter feeds in real time, the shot seen round the world was transmitted using TweetDeck — a popular Adobe desktop application that links up with social networking sites. A review of Weiner’s Twitter stream from May 27, the day of the crotch pic, shows that Weiner had been posting only from TweetDeck — one of many ways to post messages to Twitter — that entire night.

Chet Wisniewski, a senior security adviser at security software company SophosLabs, said the TweetDeck stamp “does make it more plausible that it did come from him.”

Weiner used TweetDeck frequently, but he often also posted from the Web directly or from his BlackBerry...

She's standing by her Weiner -- but that act seems to be wearing thin.

Members of the House Democratic leadership have talked repeatedly to Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-New York, to try to get him to end what several Democrats call an unwelcome political distraction, a member of the party's leadership tells CNN.

"It's frustrating because we'll talk to him, and say clean it up, and then he goes out and does stuff," said the member of the House Democratic leadership, who declined to speak for the record about private discussions with Weiner.

"He's got to put the period at the end of the sentence," said the Democratic source, "it's painful."

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter ripped New York Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner for his inability to answer basic questions throughout the ongoing #Weinergate scandal. The Daily Caller asked Coulter if she thought it was likely Weiner sent lewd photographs or provocative messages to women other than porn star and stripper Ginger Lee and 21-year-old Seattle-area college student Gennette Cordova. Weiner and his spokesman, Dave Arnold, haven’t answered those questions.

Coulter used Weiner’s own words against him, pointing out he’s the one who’s really the distraction, not the journalists asking him about Weinergate.

Listen up. The verbose and hyperactive Anthony Weiner is not going to say this again.

I did not have sext with that woman.

Of course, whether Weiner had virtual flirtations, or didn't, with any sentient female human depends on what your definition of "is" is.

We are witnessing a brand-new and bewildering flavor of scandal, New Yorkers. A wacky tempest-in-an-Internet-zipper known as Weinergate.

Rep. Weiner, who reps Brooklyn and Queens, has, evidently, been caught with his knickers askew in the seemingly safe and cloistered realm of cyberspace. And for the last few days, he's clumsily parsed the language of this uncharted terrain for scandal with the recklessness of a skinny guy wielding a chainsaw.

Rep. Anthony Weiner, embroiled in a bizarre controversy over a lewd photo of a man’s crotch sent to a young woman from his Twitter account, said Wednesday it’s possible the photo is of him – though he insisted he didn’t send it.

A day earlier, the New York Democrat and potential New York City mayoral candidate had sought to end the embarrassing episode by refusing to discuss it, at one point angrily calling one reporter a “jackass.’’

Rep. Anthony Weiner attempted to quell the media frenzy after he claimed his Twitter account was hacked and a lewd photo was sent to a college student in Seattle.

"I'm not going to permit myself to be distracted further," Weiner said. "The objective of the person doing the mischief is to distract me and I'm not going to let that happen."

Weiner repeatedly refused to say whether or not it was him in the photo.

The Weinergate saga did not end with the weekend.

Some background: Over the long weekend the blogosphere was all fired up over a tweet sent out from Rep. Anthony Weiner's verified account that contained a picture of a bulging underwear-clad penis. 

Shortly thereafter Weiner claimed his account had been hacked and brushed the incident off, telling Politico "the Weiner gags never get old, I guess."

Andrew Breitbart's site Big Government, which caught the tweet before it was deleted, reported it was directed to a female college student in Seattle.  That student, Gennette Nicole Cordova, later issued a long statement denying, among other things, that she was involved with the (newly married) Congressman.
