GOP targets Hispanics in new ad on economy
Republicans are trying to woo Latino voters.

The conservative advocacy group will run Spanish-language ads in Latino-heavy media markets attacking President Barack Obama. The 60-second spot is a translated version of a television spot Crossroads started running earlier this month. The ads in Spanish will run for at least one week, a Crossroads spokesman said.

Michele Bachmann: Obama ‘Has Failed the African American Community;’ ‘Has Failed the Hispanic Community’
Pointing to double-digit unemployment rates among African Americans and Hispanics, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R.-Minn.) said on Friday that President Barack Obama “has failed” both these communities.

“This president has failed the Hispanic community. He has failed the African-American community,” said Bachmann. “He has failed us all when it comes to jobs.”

Bachmann, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination for 2012, made the remarks at the “Republican Leadership Conference” held in New Orleans over the weekend. Other Republican presidential contenders—including Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Ron Paul and Herman Cain—also spoke at the event, as did Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who is reportedly considering a run for president.

Obama Courts Latinos With Puerto Rico Trip
Arriving in Puerto Rico today on the first official visit by a sitting U.S. president in five decades, President Obama reminded island residents of his campaign pledge to make room for them in his presidency.

"When I ran for president, I promised to include Puerto Rico not just on my itinerary, but also in my vision of where our country needs to go," Obama told a cheering crowd of supporters during a speech in San Juan. "And I am proud to say that we've kept that promise, too."

The trip is also meant to curry favor among mainland U.S. Latinos and raise some campaign cash.

While none of the island's nearly 4 million U.S. citizens can vote in the 2012 general election, the president knows they have some political sway, both with their pocketbooks and through ties to family members who have migrated to the states where they can vote.
