Flavorwire » Awesome Infographic: The Most Read Books in the World
Spotted by GalleyCat, this simple visual representation of the most popular (read: printed and sold) books in the world over the past 50 years by designer Jared Fanning is kind of surprising, don’t you think? There’s so much fairly recent fiction! It almost makes you wonder if in another 50 years, we’ll see Harry Potter beat out the Bible.

Stephen Fry Kinetic Typography - Language - YouTube
UPDATE 24/05/2011:Thankyou to @hedgehoglet for the Russian Subtitles UPDATE 11/10/2010: Thanks to Stephen Fry for mentioning this video on his twitter account, rather exciting! Follow me at @RogersCreations on twitter Using the wonderful words of acclaimed writer, actor and allround know it all (I mean that in the best of ways) Stephen Fry I have created this kinetic typography animation. If you like what you hear you can download the rest of the audio file from Mr. Fry's website. stephenfry.com and then go to the audio and video section at the top of the page and look for the file entitled language. You can also find the file on iTunes by searching the name 'Stephen Fry's Podgrams'. I loved this particular essay on language and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to make my first kinetic typography video. I hope you like it and even if you dont I would like to heard what you think in the comments section. Also I know that at points the audio does not match the text so you do not have to write that. It is because I copied the transcript off of Stephen's website and it was not 100% exactly what he said and i did not notice until I was well underway. However these cases are few and far between. Just incase you were wondering the programs I used to make this were all by Adobe. Mostly After Effects but also Flash and Illustrator. Flash for the changing background colour transitions and illustrator for putting the words in to the shape of 'language' before loading it into After Effects to animate. Enjoy

Black and white pictures capture the lives of Londoners in the 1800s | Mail Online
These fascinating black and white pictures taken by photographer John Thompson show the reality of existence in the 1800s when photography was in its infancy.

In 1876 he set out with writer Adolphe Smith and together the pair spoke to people and the shots were later published in magazine, Street Life in London.

Will The Real Mitt Romney Please Stand Up (feat. Eminem) - YouTube
Mitt Romney raps to the tune of Eminem. Hope you like it and share it. By Hugh Atkin youtube.com/hmatkin twitter.com/hmatkin Can I have your attention please. Can I have your attention please. Will the real Mitt Romney please stand up. I repeat. Will the real Mitt Romney please stand up. We're gonna have a problem here. Y'all act like you haven't seen a Mormon before. Jaws down on the floor. I'm not concerned about the very poor. Got it wrong. Sorry. That's not what I meant. I want every American to be in the top one percent. I'm really named Willard. That's my first name. I'm not looking for a colony on the moon. Just for someone to blame. I like being able to fire people. "I'm Newt Gingrich." You're fired. "I'm Rick Santorum and I'm...." Fired Boom. Boom. Boom. "Conservative women love Mitt Romney." And I love cars and I love lakes. I'm running or office for Pete's sake. With regards to abortion. Pro-life? Pro-choice? I firmly believe in my own singing voice. For purple mountains' majesty, above the fruited plain. "Where were we at John?" Uh... with regards to abortion... uh.... You can choose your own adventure. It's a Republican dementia. And I'm more concerned about the banks: they're unable to lend. Corporations are people my friend. My dog is on the roof. My dog is on the roof. Who let the dogs out? Who? Who? Understand I'm an exception. The Obama contraception. Not a vulture, I'm an eagle. Look I'm gonna get my lawn cut by illegals. There will be an influx. Hispanic voters in trucks. Look, if you don't believe, I'll tell you what, ten thousand bucks? Well, I made a lot of money matter of factually. I drive a couple of Cadillacs actually. I have emotion and passion. That's a joke for the record. But if you want the soul of America restored, Come on board. Take your fair share and every Mormon wave your underwear. Sing the chorus, papa bear. I'm Mitt Romney. Yes, I'm the real Romney. All the other Mitt Romneys are just mass debating. So would the real Mitt Romney please stand up, please stand up, please stand up. I'm Mitt Romney. Yes, I'm the real Romney. All the other Mitt Romneys are just mass debating. So would the real Mitt Romney please stand up, please stand up, please stand up.

Buying This Thing Will Make Me Happy.
I know what you’re thinking, so don’t even say it. Buying that thing won’t make you happy, is what you’re thinking. Buying things never makes you happy, so why would you buy this thing? It won’t make you happy.

But you haven’t seen this thing.

It’s really cool. They just started making it and not many people have one yet. It does all sorts of stuff and can fit in my pocket, but it can also get bigger than that if I want it to. Plus it’s made by a company I trust to put out things that will make me happy.

PHSC 13400: Global Warming
This 10-week course for non-science majors focuses on a single problem: assessing the risk of human-caused climate change. The story ranges from physics to chemistry, biology, geology, fluid mechanics, and quantum mechanics, to economics and social sciences. The class will consider evidence from the distant past and projections into the distant future, keeping the human time scale of the next several centuries as the bottom line. The lectures follow a textbook, "Global Warming, Understanding the Forecast," written for the course. For information about the textbook, interactive models, and more, visit: http://forecast.uchicago.edu/

Movies From An Alternate Universe on the Behance Network
Awhile back a friend of mine forwarded me a site where an artist had made posters of films that, title wise, we were familiar with, but there was a slight difference; they were remade as if they belonged to a different era or a different genre, the name of the movie was there, but the actors were different, the style was different, and I loved the concept. So I went forward with this theme; what if movies we were all familiar with were made a different slice of time? Who would be in it? Who would direct it? So here we are...

How Often Should I Charge My Gadget's Battery to Prolong Its Lifespan?
There is a lot of confusion surrounding this issue, mostly because lithium-ion batteries are different from older, nickel-based batteries (which suffered from a nasty memory effect not present in lithium-ion batteries). You're right, though—charging them incorrectly can decrease their lifespan. Most lithium batteries should last you a few years, but improper care can decrease that lifespan, meaning that your battery will be unable to hold a charge—or unable to hold as big a charge as it used to—quicker. So, to clear things up, here's how to actually extend your battery's health as much as possible.

The Joy of Books - YouTube
After organizing our bookshelf almost a year ago (http://youtu.be/zhRT-PM7vpA), my wife and I decided to take it to the next level. We spent many sleepless nights moving, stacking, and animating books at Type bookstore in Toronto (883 Queen Street West, (416) 366-8973). Everything you see here can be purchased at Type Books. Grayson Matthews (http://www.graysonmatthews.com/) generously composed the beautiful, custom music. But none of it could have been done without all the volunteer hands who shelved and reshelved books all night, every night. A special thanks goes out to: Lisa Blonder Ohlenkamp Mike Takasaki Hannah Charlick Liz Walker Andrew Carty Filipe Da Luz Ruth Ann Cachero Justin Turco Adam Tuck Michael Groppo Curtis Denomme Shannon Farrell Steffi Raike Jean Marc Douville Mikhail Ferrara Clayton Vrenjak Rob Sturch Marie Rupolo Nery Orellana Mike Greco William Chong Terri Vegso Michael Leishman Emma Leishman Mike Kolberg So who wants to help us do the Library of Congress next? :)

Iconic Images Without Their Subjects: An Artist's Rendering - NYTimes.com
In the project “Fatescapes,” the visual artist Pavel Maria Smejkal goes a step further and forces us to reconsider the veracity of historical images and the photographer’s role by digitally removing the people that made these images resonant. What is left is the scene as it might have looked just minutes before or after the photographer passed by. These images are reminiscent of a time, before Photoshop, when photographs were believed to be a reflection of reality. Mr. Smejkal’s alterations question whether photographs should be viewed as accurate representation.
