Front-end Code Standards & Best Practices
This document outlines our de-facto code standards. The primary motivation is two- fold: 1) code consistency and 2) best practices. By maintaining consistency in coding styles and conventions, we can ease the burden of legacy code maintenance, and mitigate risk of breakage in the future. By adhering to best practices, we ensure optimized page loading, performance and maintainable code.

Method & Craft | Layer Positioning in a Duplicated Canvas
TAKEAWAY: Working in Photoshop, you may want to start with a clean slate of the composition you're working on – then copy over only desired layers from the old canvas into the new one. In order to retain exact positions of the layers copied from the old canvas into the new, you do: 1) Select All (Cmd-A), 2) Edit > Copy Merged, 3) File > New (using the same dimensions as the old canvas), 4) Drag layers from the old canvas into the new while holding down Shift (i.e. Shift-dragging them over).

Now they will be copied over to the new design, keeping their exact same position as on the old canvas!

Method & Craft | Making Icons Using Alpha Converted Vector Groups
TAKEAWAY: A nice Fireworks technique for combining paths: instead of using common union, subtract, intersect, etc. tools; instead 1) group the shapes, 2) choose Filters > Other > Convert to Alpha (all white pixels become transparent and black pixels become opaque), then 3) Filters > Adjust Color > Color Fill (and choose your color).

Now you retain fully editable shapes! As opposed to having to adjust individual paths when combining/subtracting/intersecting shapes the 'common' Pathfinder way.
