SASS Reference
september 2011 by henrikcederblad
Sass is an extension of CSS that adds power and elegance to the basic language. It allows you to use variables, nested rules, mixins, inline imports, and more, all with a fully CSS-compatible syntax. Sass helps keep large stylesheets well-organized, and get small stylesheets up and running quickly, particularly with the help of the Compass style library.

Using the 960 Grid System as a Design Framework
march 2011 by henrikcederblad
The 960 Grid System has been around for a while now… but it’s been mostly used on the coding side of projects as an HTML/CSS framework. Today, we’re going to discuss the advantages of using grid systems like 960GS at the very start of a project, before you even open up Photoshop or Fireworks. If you haven’t used a framework before, or you just want a good refresher, this is a great place to start!

Method & Craft | Layer Positioning in a Duplicated Canvas
march 2011 by henrikcederblad
TAKEAWAY: Working in Photoshop, you may want to start with a clean slate of the composition you're working on – then copy over only desired layers from the old canvas into the new one. In order to retain exact positions of the layers copied from the old canvas into the new, you do: 1) Select All (Cmd-A), 2) Edit > Copy Merged, 3) File > New (using the same dimensions as the old canvas), 4) Drag layers from the old canvas into the new while holding down Shift (i.e. Shift-dragging them over).
Now they will be copied over to the new design, keeping their exact same position as on the old canvas!

Method & Craft | Making Icons Using Alpha Converted Vector Groups
march 2011 by henrikcederblad
TAKEAWAY: A nice Fireworks technique for combining paths: instead of using common union, subtract, intersect, etc. tools; instead 1) group the shapes, 2) choose Filters > Other > Convert to Alpha (all white pixels become transparent and black pixels become opaque), then 3) Filters > Adjust Color > Color Fill (and choose your color).
Now you retain fully editable shapes! As opposed to having to adjust individual paths when combining/subtracting/intersecting shapes the 'common' Pathfinder way.

Installing Arch Linux on a MacBook
december 2010 by henrikcederblad
Installing Arch Linux on a MacBook is quite similar to installing it on any other computer. However, due to the specific hardware configuration on a MacBook, there are a few deviations and special considerations which warrant a separate guide. For more background information, please see the Official Arch Linux Install Guide, Beginners Guide, Beginners Guide Appendix, and Post Installation Tips. This guide should also work for the MacBook Pros 5 series, and apply to both the 32 and 64 bits versions. If you have a Macbook5,2 (Polycarbonate, Non-Unibody) and are having additional issues, please see Macbook5,2 for additional help.
