Title: 42 Things We Learned From the ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail’ Commentary
9 weeks ago by gwenhwyfear
A lot of thought went into what quotes from Monty Python and the Holy Grail would be used for this intro. In the end, though, it was decided that you all probably know this film by heart, anyway. If you don’t, what are you doing right now? Get to memorizing. When you’re done, though, be sure to come back for this special, little treat we have in store for you on this week’s Commentary Commentary.

Title: A List
11 weeks ago by gwenhwyfear
Version 6.1 (31 March 04) Next update in mid-April. My Year From Hell should be over by then. The following may or may not be true, and is based on hearsay, rumor, and gossip--most of it from relatively reliable sources, some from more dubious ones, and some based on my own suppositions. I have tried to make this list as accurate as possible, but in some/many cases I wasn't able to verify rumors. I have not put anything here that I know to be untrue. If you want, send me e-mail. Please don't be offended if I don't respond to you quickly, or at all. I average around 90-100 e-mails a day. Proceed at your own risk. Believe what you want & reject the rest. If my political opinions upset you, stop reading and read something else. If you don't like reading "scurrilous gossip," stop reading and read something else.

Title: The 10 Strangest, Most Terrifying Creatures Ever Found
12 weeks ago by gwenhwyfear
These creatures are found all over the planet(/internet) and beg the question "What the h**l is that?" Pictures of them get circulated everywhere from some random no-name blog to national and international news networks, giving everyone a chance to make their own quasi-educated (by TV/movies) prediction regarding what scientists and internet skeptics will find out. So, displaying both the hype and found reality of each of these "creatures". Have fun sleeping tonight.

Title: Surprising Song Meanings: List of Songs with Lyrics Explanations
12 weeks ago by gwenhwyfear
Here's a list of songs which meanings we miss because we either don't listen to lyrics properly or we just take the song at face value, ignoring any origins or intent of the artist. Or we just don't know the lyrics to anything. Then, one day, your world breaks down. Everything you knew and loved turns out to be a lie because that song which you thought was innocent and sweet is actually about slaughtering kittens or marrying dogs or something of the like. Although none of these songs are actually about those things, you get the idea. Enjoy. I hope the truth isn't too damaging.

Title: 61 Things We Learned From the ‘Armageddon’ Commentary
february 2012 by gwenhwyfear
You knew it was inevitable. We here at Film School Rejects love Michael Bay's Armageddon. Hell, we even gave the film a full day of coverage last April, sadly a day before Commentary Commentary was in existence. So here we are. The Criterion Collection of Armageddon and everything Michael Bay has to thrown down on the commentary track. Say what you will. Even outside the walls of FSR, this film has its fair share of fandom, and they aren't backing down from their sturdy position. But be honest. It's going to be fun to hear all the intricacies and insight Bay has to dish out even if you aren't a fan of the film.

Title: The Boy Who Lived Forever
december 2011 by gwenhwyfear
Fan fiction is what literature might look like if it were reinvented from scratch after a nuclear apocalypse by a band of brilliant pop-culture junkies trapped in a sealed bunker. They don't do it for money. That's not what it's about. The writers write it and put it up online just for the satisfaction. They're fans, but they're not silent, couchbound consumers of media. The culture talks to them, and they talk back to the culture in its own language.

Title: Murder by Text
december 2011 by gwenhwyfear
Kim Proctor was no different than your ordinary teenage girl. Easily hurt by insults and just as easily swayed by compliments, she dwelled in an angsty purgatory familiar to most adolescents. But when Kim went from average kid to missing girl, her storyline took a tragic turn. David Kushner reports on the teenage nightmare that British Columbia police uncovered when they peeked behind the digital curtains of Kim’s supposed friends, Kruse Wellwood and Cameron Moffat.

Introduction: My motivation
I have written different versions of this document many times over the years with differing tones and differing goals. I've always been reluctant to put much effort into this for a variety of reasons. My motivation for doing it now is having read Aja's post about her time in the Inner Circle and Ari_O's post during the Ms. Scribe Story.
I am trying to explain exactly what happened in June 2001 from my point of view. As you read, you may say, "Your grudge is showing." You're probably right. I do have a grudge. It is not possible for me to provide a wholly unbiased account of these events because I was involved. On the other hand, I am in the interesting position of being the only person with any access to some of the information about this incident.

Title: 6 Insane Fan Theories That Actually Make Great Movies Better
february 2011 by gwenhwyfear
Cinephiles love reading way too much into a films, and 99 percent of the stuff they come up with is bullshit ("what if Haley Joel Osment was also a ghost?") but other times, they turn out to be right (yes, Harrison Ford really was a replicant in Blade Runner).
Well here are some oddball, yet strangely plausible, alternate fan theories that in many cases actually improve the movie quite a bit.

6 Presidential Secrets Your History Teacher Didn't Mention
We're pretty sure that 99 percent of a politician's success lies in his or her ability to hide his or her true personality from the public. We all have personal failures and weaknesses, but a president will work so hard at crafting a specific public persona that we're shocked every time one gets caught getting blown by an intern.
With that in mind, here are some of the stranger facts about American presidents that almost never get mentioned in history class.
