In 1985, there were about 9 cell phones per 10,000 people in the U.S. The total neurological cancer rate (including brain cancers) was 6.9 cases per 10,000 people. In 2007 there were about 8,000 cell phones per 10,000 people, but the cancer rate remained essentially unchanged at 6.6 per 10,000. Whatever mechanism one imagines for [cell phones] to cause cancer, it seems to be a remarkably ineffective one."
