Unix Commands Unique to Darwin
In the following table the first column shows the command name followed by the Unix manual section in parenthesis. Entries in Section 5 of the manual (for example plist) are documentation for configuration files and file formats, not commands.

Command line tools
The Unarchiver is a Mac OS X app, but the underlying unarchiving code can run on other OSes, too. There is not yet any GUI app for any other OS, but there are two command-line tools, unar and lsar, which can be used on Mac OS X, Windows and Linux.

FHS | The Linux Foundation
The Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS) is a reference describing the conventions used for the layout of a UNIX system. It has been made popular by its use in Linux distributions, but it is used by other UNIX variants as well. The Linux Standard Base (LSB) refers to it as a standard.

Filesystem Hierarchy Standard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS) defines the main directories and their contents in Linux operating systems. For the most part, it is a formalization and extension of the traditional BSD filesystem hierarchy.

Advanced Bash-Scripting Guide
This tutorial assumes no previous knowledge of scripting or programming, but progresses rapidly toward an intermediate/advanced level of instruction . . . all the while sneaking in little nuggets of UNIX® wisdom and lore. It serves as a textbook, a manual for self-study, and a reference and source of knowledge on shell scripting techniques. The exercises and heavily-commented examples invite active reader participation, under the premise that the only way to really learn scripting is to write scripts.

This book is suitable for classroom use as a general introduction to programming concepts.

The MacPorts Project -- Home
The MacPorts Project is an open-source community initiative to design an easy-to-use system for compiling, installing, and upgrading either command-line, X11 or Aqua based open-source software on the Mac OS X operating system. To that end we provide the command-line driven MacPorts software package under a BSD License, and through it easy access to thousands of ports that greatly simplify the task of compiling and installing open-source software on your Mac.

ZSH - THE Z SHELL
Zsh is a shell designed for interactive use, although it is also a powerful scripting language. Many of the useful features of bash, ksh, and tcsh were incorporated into zsh; many original features were added. The introductory document details some of the unique features of zsh. It assumes basic knowledge of the standard UNIX shells; the intent is to show a reader already familiar with one of the other major shells what makes zsh more useful or more powerful.

Filesystem Hierarchy Standard
The filesystem standard has been designed to be used by Unix distribution developers, package developers, and system implementors. However, it is primarily intended to be a reference and is not a tutorial on how to manage a Unix filesystem or directory hierarchy.

I like Unicorn because it's Unix
Ruby, Python, and Perl all have fairly complete interfaces to common Unix system calls as part of their standard libraries. In most cases, the method names and signatures match the POSIX definitions exactly. Yet, of the groups, only the Perl people seem to regularly (and happily) apply common Unix idioms to a wide range of problem are
