Memento: Adding Time to the Web
september 2011 by gdw
Memento wants to make it as straightforward to access the Web of the past as it is to access the current Web.
If you know the URI of a Web resource, the technical framework proposed by Memento allows you to see a version of that resource as it existed at some date in the past, by entering that URI in your browser like you always do and by specifying the desired date in a browser plug-in.

When the entire country of Egypt was forced offline by its government last month, it served as a global wake-up call that the Internet is a more fragile medium than we imagine it to be. What happened in Egypt was particularly striking, but other, subtler tests of the Internet's resilience abound.

Hurricane Electric IPv6
january 2011 by gdw
What is IPv6?
IPv6 or IP version 6 is the next generation Internet protocol which will eventually replace the current protocol IPv4. IPv6 has a number of improvements and simplifications when compared to IPv4. The primary difference is that IPv6 uses 128 bit addresses as compared to the 32 bit addresses used with IPv4. Among other things, this improvement is expected to make assigning address to wireless devices easier and accommodate the myriad smart network enabled devices that will surround us in the future.

DSLReports Home : Broadband ISP Reviews News Tools and Forums
december 2010 by gdw
The DSLreports.com domain was registered in June 1999 and populated with various bits of information on the proliferation of new DSL powered small ISPs, as well as user reviews. The first version of the site even ran off a home (small business) DSL line from the (now defunct) NorthPoint CLEC.
We try to have a consumer-first point of view, and defend the privacy and confidentiality of our myriad contributors. Despite our domain name, we are agnostic over broadband connectivity technology: Cable, Wireless and Satellite users are as welcome and as numerous as our DSL users.
