A Simpler Approach to Online Identity - Technology Review
september 2011 by gdw
Account Chooser, a new service launched by the OpenID Foundation, an organization that includes the major websites Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and Yahoo among its members, is the latest effort to solve this problem. Instead of having to create yet another account, Account Chooser lets users choose one account—their Gmail or Facebook login, for example—and then use it to use to log into many other sites. The technology was developed by Eric Sachs, a Google project manager and OpenID Foundation board member board member, and Google is backing the project by hosting the code.

Google is changing your brain, study says, and don't you forget it - San Jose Mercury News
july 2011 by gdw
A new study confirms it: Google (GOOG) is altering your brain. More precisely, our growing dependence on the Internet has changed how -- and what -- our brains choose to remember.
When we know where to find information, we're less likely to remember it -- an amnesia dubbed The Google Effect by a team led by psychologist Betsy Sparrow of Columbia University.
