Jay Nordlinger on Michael Hersch
THE story of Michael Hersch is one of the most amazing you’ll ever hear — in music or out. He is an American composer, born in 1971. He is one of the most honored and lauded composers before the public today. He deserves this recognition too (say I, as a critic who has covered him for years). Why is his story so amazing? First, there is his extraordinary talent. Second, there is the fact that he started in music at a late age — and rapidly soared to something like the top

My musical language is inspired by various aspects of life including painting, poetry and my own daily experiences. I have an Asian origin, Korean to be exact, but my music is not limited by that region. I combine Asian and Western musical characteristics in my works. My compositions tend to illustrate the impressions through boundary-less tonal and atonal language. I am also interested in creating electronic music and collaborating my music with art exhibitions.

NewMusicBox » Will Redman: Graphic Ideas In Sound
Many scores are visually striking, but Will Redman’s catalog carries a particularly strong “take this piece and frame it” vibe. In his work, fragments of traditionally notated music can be found free-floating on an eight foot scroll or overlayed on top of one another to form a dense nest of competing musical ideas, with lines and other abstract graphic symbols implying mood and character.

Silent Sounds… « silent listening
Andreas Bick, composer and sound artist based in Berlin, Germany, writes about sound related things (forgive wrong spellings and twisted grammar). Silent listening is about the fringes of music, the periphery where music turns into sheer sound - concrete, wild, sometimes stunningly beautiful.

Morgan Packard » Bio
Morgan Packard’s sound is rooted in a decade’s immersion in beat-based electronic music and informed by periods of intense study of jazz, western classical music, and computer programming. While his music may be wrangled into the minimal electronic category, he is actually eschewing minimal tropes in favor of highly wrought arrangements – fitting multiple sensibilities into music that could easily be mistaken for existing genres, though when explored carefully, hardly fits into any. Using the form of techno/house/breakbeat music as a beginning, not an end unto itself, Morgan arrives at a sound which manages to synthesize ideas from the worlds of electronics, jazz, and classical in a manner that has no hint of experimentation, but rather a purposeful, concrete rendering of his vision

The Producer as Composer - The MIT Press
The role of the record producer, writes Virgil Moorefield in The Producer as Composer, was evolving from that of organizer to auteur; band members became actors in what Frank Zappa called a "movie for your ears." In rock and pop, in the absence of a notated score, the recorded version of a song—created by the producer in collaboration with the musicians—became the definitive version.
