Where is the Lion version of Property List Editor
january 2012 by gdw
The Property List Editor has been dropped as a standalone application. It is now fully integrated in XCode. If you click "open with..." on a .plist-file and select XCode.app, XCode will bring up the Property List Editor, but it's no standalone app anymore.

Vanilla - Type Supply Code - Trac
may 2011 by gdw
Vanilla is a Python wrapper around Cocoa. It was inspired by the classic W Python library.
The advantage of Vanilla is that it provides a very simple, familiar API for Cocoa. The disadvantage is that it doesn't use NIB files; you specify the interface programatically. There are tradeoffs either way. I personally prefer the simpler API over the niceties of InterfaceBuilder.

RBSplitView by Rainer Brockerhoff - A replacement for Cocoa’s NSSplitView
november 2010 by gdw
RBSplitView is a replacement for Cocoa's NSSplitView. There are some serious limitations with NSSplitView if you need to limit subview's sizes, expand or collapse subviews programmatically or by double-clicking, or resize the split view frequently.
RBSplitView has special content views - RBSplitSubviews - that handle details of subview limitations and properties. So there's less or no work to be done by the delegate. RBSplitView also has built-in support for nesting any number of levels, and automatically generates a two-axis thumb to resize in two dimensions.
This latest release of RBSplitView is compatible with Leopard and Snow Leopard, runs on 32-bit or 64-bit, and supports optional garbage-collection.

ParseKit - Cocoa Objective-C Framework for parsing, tokenizing and language processing
august 2010 by gdw
ParseKit is a Mac OS X Framework written by Todd Ditchendorf in Objective-C 2.0 and released under the MIT Open Source License. ParseKit is suitable for use on Mac OS X Leopard, Snow Leopard or iPhone OS. ParseKit is an Objective-C implementation of the tools described in "Building Parsers with Java" by Steven John Metsker. ParseKit includes additional features beyond the designs from the book and also some changes to match common Cocoa/Objective-C conventions. These changes are relatively superficial, however, and Metsker's book is the best documentation available for ParseKit.

Qt 4.5.3: QMacCocoaViewContainer Class Reference
june 2010 by gdw
The QMacCocoaViewContainer class provides a widget for Mac OS X that can be used to wrap arbitrary Cocoa views (i.e., NSView subclasses) and insert them into Qt hierarchies.
While Qt offers a lot of classes for writing your application, Apple's Cocoa framework offers lots of functionality that is not currently in Qt or may never end up in Qt. Using QMacCocoaViewContainer, it is possible to put an arbitrary NSView-derived class from Cocoa and put it in a Qt hierarchy. Depending on how comfortable you are with using objective-C, you can use QMacCocoaViewContainer directly, or subclass it to wrap further functionality of the underlying NSView.

Theocacao
april 2010 by gdw
Theocacao is written by me, Scott Stevenson. I was born in the San Francisco Bay Area, though I lived the first three years of my life in London. I now live in Sunnyvale, California.
I run Cocoa Dev Central and Cocoa Blogs, which help programmers learn how to write software for the Mac.
I own a tiny company called Tree House Ideas, which published the DataCrux framework. DataCrux provided a high-level interface to SQLite, and was used to create several Mac apps, including MemoryMiner, LogTen, and Mindburn.
I created the MacNN logo and basic corporate identity, which features the yellow and white text on blue, the zoom tool icon, and the tagline "Read Me First."
I co-founded a web development company called Maxify in 1996. We did work for a bunch of Bay Area companies, and created AltaVista's first company-wide intranet. I was interviewed in 1999 for my work at Maxify during an hour-long CNN special on Silicon Valley.
For better or worse, I don't have formal training for any of this.
