FTM&Co - ftm
FTM is a shared library for Max/MSP providing a small and simple real-time object system and a set of optimized services to be used within Max/MSP externals.

FTM = data structures
+ visualization/editors
+ file import/export (SDIF, MIDI, ...)
+ operators (expressions and externals)
The basic idea of FTM is to extend the data types exchanged between the objects in a Max/MSP patch by complex data structures such as sequences, matrices, dictionaries, break point functions, tuples and whatever might seem helpful for the processing of music, sound and motion capture data.

The FTM library and its Java editors are based on the jMax project and distributed under the Lesser GNU Public License (LGPL). The sources of FTM are available via CVS at SourceForge.net

The Snack Sound Toolkit is designed to be used with a scripting language such as Tcl/Tk or Python. Using Snack you can create powerful multi-platform audio applications with just a few lines of code. Snack has commands for basic sound handling, such as playback, recording, file and socket I/O. Snack also provides primitives for sound visualization, e.g. waveforms and spectrograms. It was developed mainly to handle digital recordings of speech, but is just as useful for general audio. Snack has also successfully been applied to other one-dimensional signals.

audiolab
Audiolab is a python toolbox to read/write audio files from numpy arrays. It gives SciPy the equivalent of Matlab wavread, wavwrite, etc... as well as soundsc on the supported platforms. Audiolab works by wrapping the excellent library libsndfile from Erik Castro de Lopo. Audiolab supports all format supported by libsndfile, including wav, aiff, ircam files, and flac (an open source lossless compressed format);

AudioLab – SciKits
Audiolab is a small toolbox to read, write and play audio to and from numpy arrays.

Audiolab provides two API:

one similar to matlab: this gives you wavread/wavwrite/auread/auwrite functions similar to matlab's ones (+ some others for FLAC, etc...)
a more complete API, which can be used to read, write to many audio files (including wav, aiff, flac, au, IRCAM, htk, etc...), with IO capabilities not available to matlab (seek, append data, etc...)
Not finished yet: ability to play/record sounds on major platforms (I intend to support at least windows, core audio for Mac OS X and alsa for Linux).
It is a thin wrapper around libsndfile from Erik Castro Lopo.

MIRtoolbox — Humanistinen tiedekunta
MIRtoolbox offers an integrated set of functions written in Matlab, dedicated to the extraction from audio files of musical features such as tonality, rhythm, structures, etc. The objective is to offer an overview of computational approaches in the area of Music Information Retrieval. The design is based on a modular framework: the different algorithms are decomposed into stages, formalized using a minimal set of elementary mechanisms. These building blocks form the basic vocabulary of the toolbox, which can then be freely articulated in new original ways.

Karlheinz Essl: FontanaMixer 2.0 - generative sound environment for Mac OS X
FontanaMixer is a generative sound environment based on John Cage's conceptual piece "Fontana Mix" (1958) which can be seen as a set of instructions for creating any number of compositions. The "score" supplies a number of transparent foils with dots, lines and graphs which have to be overlapped in random positions and placed over a page that contains 6 curved and intermingled lines. By measuring positions of crossing lines one will obtain 6 parameter values which are needed to determine a single sound event.

pyo - Python digital signal processing module. - Google Project Hosting
pyo is a Python module written in C to help digital signal processing script creation.

pyo is a Python module containing classes for a wide variety of audio signal processing types. With pyo, user will be able to include signal processing chains directly in Python scripts or projects, and to manipulate them in real time through the interpreter. Tools in pyo module offer primitives, like mathematical operations on audio signal, basic signal processing (filters, delays, synthesis generators, etc.), but also complex algorithms to create sound granulation and others creative audio manipulations. pyo supports OSC protocol (Open Sound Control), to ease communications between softwares, and MIDI protocol, for generating sound events and controlling process parameters. pyo allows creation of sophisticated signal processing chains with all the benefits of a mature, and wildly used, general programming language.

Scientists Prove DNA Can Be Reprogrammed by Words and Frequencies | Wake Up World
THE HUMAN DNA IS A BIOLOGICAL INTERNET and superior in many aspects to the artificial one. Russian scientific research directly or indirectly explains phenomena such as clairvoyance, intuition, spontaneous and remote acts of healing, self healing, affirmation techniques, unusual light/auras around people (namely spiritual masters), mind’s influence on weather patterns and much more. In addition, there is evidence for a whole new type of medicine in which DNA can be influenced and reprogrammed by words and frequencies WITHOUT cutting out and replacing single genes.

FScape
FScape: conceiving sound as a 'clay', a flexible, sculptural mass. Originally it started as an extension to Tom Erbe's SoundHack, providing 'spectral operators'. Today FScape consists of around fifty independent modules for rendering audio files. From simple utilities such as separating channels, normalising, cutting and splicing sounds, through various DSP and filtering algorithms to more complex algorithmic units which take a sound, analyse it, and rearrange it in new forms. Many of the processes and their ways of parametrisation are unique.

Eisenkraut
The audio file editor, baptised 'Eisenkraut', came into existance (as a scaffold) during a project class on audio programming in Java at the SeaM in Weimar. It is distinguished by a number of traits which makes it particularly interesting in the field of computer music: There are no restrictions with regard to the number of channels in a file, and there is an OSC interface via which the functionality can be extended, for example using the SuperCollider language. Possible applications of such extensions are the transfer of marker information or the maintainance of meta data for segmented files, the algorithmic editing (cut/copy/paste) of files, or the addition of your own sound transformations or special decoders (e.g. an MS matrix).

ixi audio on Vimeo
ixi audio is an experimental project concerned with the creation of digital musical instruments and environments for generative music. We are interested in the computer as a workshop for building non-conventional tools for musicians, i.e. not trying to imitate or copy the tools that we know from the world of acoustic instruments or studio technology. We currently work with open source software such as SuperCollider, ChucK and Pure Data, but our aim is to distribute our applications packaged in a way that allows everybody to use them. Simplicity and ease of use together with depth in interaction and expressive scope is the aim of our experimental music software.

Apple Lossless Audio Codec
The Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) is an audio codec developed by Apple and supported on iPhone, iPad, most iPods, Mac and iTunes.  ALAC is a data compression method which reduces the size of audio files with no loss of information.  A decoded ALAC stream is bit-for-bit identical to the original uncompressed audio file.

The Apple Lossless Audio Codec project contains the sources for the ALAC encoder and decoder.  Also included is an example command line utility, called alacconvert, to read and write audio data to/from Core Audio Format (CAF) and WAVE files.  A description of a 'magic cookie' for use with files based on the ISO base media file format (e.g. MP4 and M4A) is included as well.

The Apple Lossless Audio Codec sources are available under the Apache license.
