The Mozilla Skywriter project (formerly Bespin) is a Mozilla Labs experiment to explore ideas around “coding in the cloud”. We’re happy to announce that the project has found a new, permanent home as part of the Ajax.org Cloud9 Editor (Ace) and Cloud9 IDE projects. Read on to hear more about the transition and what we’ve learned along the way.

The Certificate Database Tool is a command-line utility that can create and modify the Netscape Communicator cert8.db and key3.db database files. It can also list, generate, modify, or delete certificates within the cert8.db file and create or change the password, generate new public and private key pairs, display the contents of the key database, or delete key pairs within the key3.db file.

Ubiquity was a Mozilla Labs experiment that was in development from 2008 to 2009. Its purpose was to explore whether a radically different type of interface to the Web — a task-centric, natural-language-based command line — could help us get common Web tasks done faster.

Processing for the Web is a initiative (under the auspices of the Mozilla Education program) to create a complete and robust port of the Java-based Processing language and environment (popular for art, design, and visualization applications) to the open web, using standard technologies such as JavaScript, Canvas, etc. It builds on the existing processing.js port of Processing to JavaScript.

Bespin is a Mozilla Labs experiment on how to build an extensible Web code editor using HTML 5 technology.

Firefox and Opera are great browsers that have greatly advanced the cause of web standards, but because they are choices in a space where most people don't make choices, their power to convert is necessarily somewhat truncated. Webkit, in the form of Safari, has been a surprising force for good on the web, raising people's expectations about what a web browser can and should do, and what a web page should look like.
