The Manhattan Declaration - Life, Marriage & Religious Liberty
4 days ago by fridalee
Because the sanctity of human life, the dignity of marriage as a union of husband and wife, and the freedom of conscience and religion are foundational principles of justice and the common good, we are compelled by our Christian faith to speak and act in their defense.

AllFaith.com: Got truth? Religion and Politics Are Welcome Here!
18 days ago by fridalee
I began AllFaith.com in 1997 as a place to share the insights of my life long spiritual quest. Since then my views have significantly changed and developed. AllFaith.com shares a glimpse into my studies and experiences and is, in some ways, an archive of these. I do not believe everything written here to be correct (so I'd never expect you to!).
The rabbis, including Rebbe Y'shua ("Master Jesus") promise: "Seek and you will find." Since 1969 I have sought Truth through the world's religious, philosophical and spiritual systems and independent of them. While I do not have all the answers, after 40 plus years of research and practice I do understand the questions much better. For more on this see Here
My current understandings are more fully presented at my JewToo Website. If you would like to study these authentically, non-Trinitarian Messianic Jewish teachings I invite you to take our free online lessons at Yeshiva Beth HaShem.

Medieval Sources Bibliography
4 weeks ago by fridalee
n Annotated Bibliography of Printed and Online Primary Sources for the Middle Ages
Created by the Center for Medieval Studies, Fordham University
Edited by Maryanne Kowaleski, Fordham University
Assistant Editor Morgan Kay, Fordham University
*****
This database provides a searchable bibliography of texts - from private letters, wills, and household accounts to literary works, philosophical treatises, chronicles, court proceedings, church records, and a host of other documents - that were written in the Middle Ages and are now available in printed or online editions and translations. The aim is to provide annotated entries that include information on the genre, contents, archival reference and original language of the text, as well as whether the publication includes a translation, introduction, appendices, glossary, and index. Where appropriate, the bibliography also includes hyperlinks to sources that are online.
Begun in Summer 2003, this database was designed to record details about printed and online primary sources that can shed light on the history, literature, culture, and religion of the middle ages. In Phase I, we are focusing on primary sources that have been translated into English and are accessible in most college libraries or online. The database is currently weighted towards primary sources relating to England, France, and Ireland, but we are now adding more materials for other European countries. The primary sources included here date primarily from the period between roughly 300 and 1500, although there are sources that date from before and after these years.

Thou shalt not commit logical fallacies
4 weeks ago by fridalee
A logical fallacy is usually what has happened when someone is wrong about something. It's a flaw in reasoning. They're like tricks or illusions of thought, and they're often very sneakily used by politicians and the media to fool people.
Don't be fooled! This website and poster have been designed to help you identify and call out dodgy logic wherever it may raise its ugly, incoherent head.
If you see someone committing a logical fallacy, link them to the relevant fallacy to school them in thinky awesomeness and win the intellectual affections of those who happen across your comment by appearing clever and interesting e.g. yourlogicalfallacyis.com/strawman (rollover/click icons above).

The Crescat | Katrina Fernandez
4 weeks ago by fridalee
Fortified with vitamin BXVI. Not a substitute for regular mass attendance. Side effects may include mackerel snapping.
*****
I started writing The Crescat in the fall of 2006, shortly after my conversion, with the sole intent of using the format for apologetics to answer my family’s questions regarding my new found faith. It sort of worked with 3 family members reverting back to our ancestral faith but it turns out, my blog had nothing to do with that. I dragged them to mass and gave them rosaries and that seemed to do the trick.
Seeing that there was nothing I could write that would be more influential than actual actions, like prayer and mass attendance, I made The Crescat a Catholic humor blog offering myself up as penance for my obvious arrogance and spiritual pride- as if my blog and writings could take credit for the conversion of sinners.
Since then, my writings have ranged from politics, relationships, parenting, the arts, satire and good old fashioned self depricating humor. In a constant battle against myself and cynicism I am forced to find the humor and beauty in all situations. It was either this or start smoking again.
What is a “Crescat”? It is Latin for “thrive” or “flourish”. I first encountered the word in the stain glass images that dominate Belmont Abbey in North Carolina. It’s the slogan for the Benedictine’s of this monastery. You can find “Crescat” scrolled at the bottom of large oak trees in their glass windows. Since Benedictines take the unique vow of stability the oak tree symbolizes this in their hearty deep roots. Therefore, Crescat becomes a command for them… take root and thrive, flourish in faith!
And it is from that which I drew the name of this blog, and from that in which you are now exposed to my crescatological musings- a schizophrenic hodge-podge about parenting, lip stick, Nathan Fillion, domesticity, Downton Abbey, chickens, girly blather, Catholicism, political rantings, and art all usually composed during fits of insomnia around 2am.

Adoremus Jesum-Eucharistiam! | Let's Adore Jesus-Eucharist!
6 weeks ago by fridalee
This web site wishes to defend the divine doctrine of Jesus Christ, as transmitted by the official teachings of His Church; while remaining in full communion with the Pope and our diocesan Bishop; and finally, to defend this doctrine in a legal, moral and rational way [1P 3:15-16].
Other good sites and books defend Catholicism. But we first target Quebec where our Mother the Church is an abused woman, sometimes abused by some of Her own leaders (Deacons, Priests, Bishops, etc.). Those leaders hurt the Church mostly by not defending some teachings, thereby causing enormous harm to all.
The Catholic Church cannot be destroyed, since Almighty God protects Her. Nevertheless, we claim Quebec needs an ecclesiastical enquiry to discover the few bad religious leaders who are hidden inside the Church ("Purge the evil person from your midst" [1Co 5:13]). Despite some despicable past abuses, and the current negative connotations of the word, the correct English term for such an enquiry is "inquisition". A good and joyful inquisition would let the Church refocus itself on Jesus-Eucharist, "source and summit of the whole Christian life" [Lumen Gentium, #11].
Are you Catholic? We suggest you avoid limiting yourself to prayer, but publicly assert that you love your Mother, the Catholic Church. Are you non-Catholic? We also have reading suggestions for you.

AD2000 - a journal of religious opinion
6 weeks ago by fridalee
The Thomas More Centre has been publishing AD2000 since April 1988. It was begun by B.A. Santamaria for reasons which he describes in the first editorial, An Act of Folly or an Act of Faith?
150 issues later, in August 2001, the raison d'etre of AD2000 was restated by Michael Gilchrist in his article After 14 years, why does AD2000 continue? Michael concludes:
" ...the strengthening of orthodoxy through John Paul II's leadership, the leadership of new bishops, the rise of new movements in the Church and the consolidation of a determined laity are what constitute the beginning of a revival.
AD2000 is committed to continuing its modest role in helping reconstruct and consolidate a new culture of life and orthodox Christian faith in Australia."

Crisis Magazine | A Voice for the Faithful Catholic Laity | Catholic Opinion
6 weeks ago by fridalee
Crisis has conceived its mission around the Holy Father’s insights. Each day, Crisis will remind countless Catholics of their heritage, give them the confidence to defend the common good, a just society, the teachings the Church, the family, the dignity of work and the sanctity of life. Our authors hope to help the new laity (and clerical readers) form both their intellect and their spirituality in a scholarly, but accessible, way.
Crisis will analyze, discuss, and propose—from a variety of prudential positions— sane solutions to social and economic problems. We hope not merely to arm our readers with the arguments necessary for navigating the ideological (and theological) minefields of the day, but to do so by proceeding into the temporal order with charity and humility. There is seldom a single Catholic solution to the challenges that beset us.
We hope that the staff of Crisis continue to display all the doggedness and the fidelity of the original editorial architects and contributors of this magazine. Our Catholic Faith and our society demand no less.

6 weeks ago by fridalee
The Tablet is a British weekly Catholic journal which has been reporting on events of significance for nearly 170 years.
*****
British Catholic weekly newspaper. Reports on current affairs, politics, religion, social issues, literature and the arts.
*****
The Tablet is an international Catholic newspaper published in the UK. The website contains an archive of articles and editorials, links, documents, and subscriber information.
The Tablet's editor states, "Readers can be confident that The Tablet will be a paper of progressive, but responsible Catholic thinking, a place where orthodoxy is at home but ideas are welcome." Unfortunately, the progressive thinking in this paper shows a distinct tendency towards supporting dissident theologians over the Magisterium. This site may be useful for more secular news, but as far as Catholicism goes it is better avoided. (CatholicCulture.org Web Site Reviews)

You've reached the website of Mark P. Shea, as fun as the fun stuff found on my blog site, Catholic and Enjoying It!. Both this site and my blog are dedicated to the glory of the Blessed Trinity, the honor of Our Lady, the spread of the Catholic Faith, the works of mercy among all persons of good will, the dignity of the human person, and to all things good, joyous, beautiful and tasty. Here you will be able to
* Read my Sheavings;
* Get handy summaries of my current talks (there are always more coming) and find details about how to book me as a speaker;
* See various samples of my work in such varied media as magazines, radio, TV, public speaking, lyric writing, books, tapes, and Internet;
* Ask me questions about the Catholic Faith;
* Check out my calendar; and
* Oh, and if you like my work, please consider supporting a decidedly lower middle class writer with a wife and four kids by clicking on the "Make a Donation" button on the left side of the screen. Not to worry, it's a secure server.
All my work is offered with the prayer that Jesus Christ will be honored, that you will gain some benefit, and that we will all have a bit of fun.

「俄巴底」(Obadiah)是誰?甚麼又是「俄巴底行動」(Obadiah's Mission)?

The Bellarmine Report | A Closer Look at Religion, Science, Politics and Culture.
7 weeks ago by fridalee
Robert A. Sungenis (born 1955), is an American Catholic apologist. He is the founder of The Bellarmine Report, renamed from the Bellarmine Theological Forum in 2011, renamed from Catholic Apologetics International in August 2007. Sungenis is known for his apologetic works critiquing the Protestant doctrines of sola fide and sola scriptura. More recently, he has become known for his advocacy of geocentrism and also for his beliefs about Jews and Judaism that have created controversy.

Catholic Apologetics International is a Catholic lay apostolate dedicated to the teachings of Jesus Christ preserved by the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. Catholic Apologetics International stands on the forefront of Catholic Apologetics, explaining Catholicism to fellow Catholics and defending it against her opponents. - Robert Sungenis
*****
Bellarmine Theological Forum (formerly Catholics Apologetics International) is self-described as "a Catholic lay apostolate dedicated to the teachings of Jesus Christ preserved by the Magisterium of the Catholic Church." The site has recently been improved significantly and contains a large amount of excellent apologetical material. But there is still some need for caution.
Apologetics as practiced on this site sometimes passes beyond legitimate argument. There is a tendency to underrate the complexity of controversial issues and to make dogmas out of opinions. In addition, those who disagree with these opinions are frequently dismissed as Modernists or otherwise assumed to be guilty of bad faith.

Voice of Revolution » The online magazine from the ministry of Dr. Michael Brown
february 2012 by fridalee
Voice of Revolution is the online magazine of the ministry of Dr. Michael Brown, devoted to helping equip, strengthen, and mobilize a Jesus-people in the earth today: a people devoted to the teachings and character of the Son of God, a people committed to being like Him as well as to doing His will, a people who take God’s Word seriously and feel a holy calling to make their lives count for the Master, a people who believe that as the salt of the earth and the light of the world, we can make a difference. And far from feeling that this is a special or elitist calling, we believe that this is the sacred privilege of every child of God – in denominations, in house churches, in fellowships of all kinds around the world. All those who truly know the Lord are called to live countercultural lives and to be ambassadors of His kingdom.

LONANG.com: The Laws Of Nature And Nature's God
february 2012 by fridalee
LONANG is an acronym for the Laws of Nature and (of) Nature's God, a phrase first used in the U.S. Declaration of Independence, 1776. The phrase is also a plural contraction; a somewhat shorthand way of saying "the law of nature and the law of nature's God."
But the concepts embodied in the phrase didn't originate with Jefferson. The law of nature was a common term used by historic legal writers such as Grotius, Burlamaqui, Blackstone and others. The law of nature's God, a lesser used term, was more commonly called the divine law, or the revealed law, meaning the laws of God revealed in verbal form. So what are these laws, and what can be known about them? This is our task . . .

Defining Ideas | A Hoover Institution Journal | Ideas Defining a Free Society
january 2012 by fridalee
With its distinct intellectual assets and ongoing programs of policy-oriented research, the Hoover Institution at Stanford University is a uniquely distinguished contributor to the marketplace of ideas.
Defining Ideas builds on the strength of Hoover’s research: publishing on-line the original work of Hoover fellows and affiliated scholars, as well as that of task force and working group members, whose scholarship lies within the fields of economics, history, law, and political science.
This online journal is the result of our concerted efforts to be part of America’s most important conversations, conveying to the public and to lawmakers an in-depth understanding of key public policy issues. Crucial to this effort is a commitment to develop enduring solutions for the challenges that face our nation and our world—in effect, to advance ideas defining a free society.
The mission of the Hoover Institution is to promote the principles of individual, economic and political freedom, private enterprise, and representative government. In doing so, the Institution seeks to safeguard peace, improve the human condition, and limit government intrusion into the lives of individuals.

GospelPedlar - A Christian Reader - Excerpts From Christian Books By Subject - Historic Biblical Christianity
january 2012 by fridalee
GospelPedlar is a web page where you will find excerpts from Christian writings that have been helpful to many in learning about the Scriptures. These excerpts are from books, magazines, newsletters, and tracts. These have been picked for their clarity, conciseness, helpfulness, and honesty. These excerpts are from Christian men of many different denominations. They are either Covenantal or Dispensational in their approach to Scripture and most all are Sovereign Grace in their understanding of salvation. Yes, Christians do have differences, but Richard Baxter's comments about this is appropriate for both Christians and Non-Christians.Their writings are not without error. The only place you will find infallible, pure Truth is in the Word of God. GospelPedlar would suggest that you become very accquainted with the Scriptures before you start reading Theology. These writings can be very helpful if you will not swallow everything you read, but "glean" from them. Many of the articles are not "light" reading and some are quite "spicy" in the way the author treats his opponents. All these men, as far as I know, have agreed on the "major truths" of the Word of God, but disagree sometimes on the "minors" - therefore you will find conflicting opinions in this web page concerning those "minors". In so doing, I believe we have strived toward an honest presentation. GospelPedlar.com is not associated with any Church or Denomination.GospelPedlar understands that Christ Himself is the key to understanding the Scriptures and that He alone can give that understanding:
Luke 24:44-45 - "Then He said to them, These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me. And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

Slawkenbergius's Tales
