Faith and Philosophy - Home Page
Faith and Philosophy is published quarterly by the Society of Christian Philosophers. The journal encourages discussions among philosophers representing a wide variety of theological perspectives and philosophical orientations that fall largely within the philosophy of religion. It seeks critical and reflective self-understanding of Christian faith carried out in dialogue with those who do not, as well as with those who do, share its Christian commitment. Faith and Philosophy seeks to serve the Christian community by articulating Christian faith in a way that will withstand rigorous examination and by exploring the implications of that faith for all aspects of human life. It also seeks to serve the intellectual community at large by providing clear and credible discussions of issues related to Christian faith.
Faith and Philosophy is widely recognized as the leading journal in its field. It carries refereed scholarly articles which address philosophical issues from a Christian perspective, for discussions of philosophical issues which arise within the Christian faith, and for articles from any perspective which deal critically with the philosophical credentials of the Christian faith. Along with full-length articles, Faith and Philosophy features back-and-forth critical discussions, symposia, and reviews of books.

ReligiousWorlds: Sources for Religion, Religions, Religious Studies
This site - www.religiousworlds.com - is an information source about religions and religious studies for scholars and students.
*****
This web site offers information about religious traditions that appeared at first in the Middle East or West Asia as well as ones from South and East Asia. (Traditions from Africa will take a place among them in future.) There are authorized copies of resources from two contributing scholars, too:
1) Research on the German historian of religion and theologian Rudolf Otto (1869-1937) by Gregory D. Alles.
2) The Fondarosa, a mirror of the original site in Ottawa that contains essays written by Marc Fonda.
If you are a journalist rather than student of religions, please consult religionsource and religionlink. If you are simply are in a hurry, and do not like to be troubled by details, then see the Big Religion Chart or the CIA World Factbook. If you need a quick reflection of your own preferred religious orientation, then try Belief-O-Matic.

Notre Dame Philosophical Reviews // University of Notre Dame
Notre Dame Philosophical Reviews began publication in January 2002. It is entirely devoted to publishing substantive, high-quality book reviews (normal length: 1500-2500 words). Reviews continually appear, usually three to ten in the course of each week.
Our goal is to review a good majority of the scholarly philosophy books issued each year and to have the review appear within six to twelve months of a book's publication. Reviews are commissioned and vetted by a distinguished international Editorial Board. The journal is published only electronically (available free, through e-mail subscription, RSS feed, and on this website).

Medieval Sources Bibliography
n Annotated Bibliography of Printed and Online Primary Sources for the Middle Ages
Created by the Center for Medieval Studies, Fordham University
Edited by Maryanne Kowaleski, Fordham University
Assistant Editor Morgan Kay, Fordham University
*****
This database provides a searchable bibliography of texts - from private letters, wills, and household accounts to literary works, philosophical treatises, chronicles, court proceedings, church records, and a host of other documents - that were written in the Middle Ages and are now available in printed or online editions and translations. The aim is to provide annotated entries that include information on the genre, contents, archival reference and original language of the text, as well as whether the publication includes a translation, introduction, appendices, glossary, and index. Where appropriate, the bibliography also includes hyperlinks to sources that are online.
Begun in Summer 2003, this database was designed to record details about printed and online primary sources that can shed light on the history, literature, culture, and religion of the middle ages. In Phase I, we are focusing on primary sources that have been translated into English and are accessible in most college libraries or online. The database is currently weighted towards primary sources relating to England, France, and Ireland, but we are now adding more materials for other European countries. The primary sources included here date primarily from the period between roughly 300 and 1500, although there are sources that date from before and after these years.

Catholic Theology - to increase our understanding of the Faith
We cannot love what we do not know. Deepen the understanding and love can grow. When we strive to know the Ultimate Good, we will be drawn to a deeper love.
The study of God and his revelation is the object of theology. So what better study could we undertake if we wish to come to know God and inflame our love for Him?
For making quick progress, there is no better overview of Catholic theology than the Summa Theologica of St Thomas Aquinas. He is a sure guide. However, the Summa is a large work written in the 12th century.
Fortunately for us, Monsignor Paul Glenn, a teacher of philosphy and theology, wrote a precis of the famous work which will allow access to the wisdom of St Thomas in as short a time as possible. It is the perfect work for the modern catholic always in a hurry.
The "Summa" is Christian doctrine in scientific form; it is human reason rendering its highest service in defence and explanation of the truths of the Christian religion. It is the answer of the matured and saintly doctor to the question of his youth: What is God?

Thou shalt not commit logical fallacies
A logical fallacy is usually what has happened when someone is wrong about something. It's a flaw in reasoning. They're like tricks or illusions of thought, and they're often very sneakily used by politicians and the media to fool people.
Don't be fooled! This website and poster have been designed to help you identify and call out dodgy logic wherever it may raise its ugly, incoherent head.
If you see someone committing a logical fallacy, link them to the relevant fallacy to school them in thinky awesomeness and win the intellectual affections of those who happen across your comment by appearing clever and interesting e.g. yourlogicalfallacyis.com/strawman (rollover/click icons above).

Anamnesis Journal
A Journal for the Study of Tradition, Place, and 'Things Divine'
*****
ANAMNESIS is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed, academic journal dedicated to the study of Tradition, Place, and ‘Things Divine.’ [The] journal will strive to avoid ideological commitments and, instead, be open to diverse scholarship relating to our major themes.
Tradition signals the importance of custom and our relation to the past. In this sense, it can be a guide to human conduct and a constituent of rationality.
Place is an existential category, like the human body, that connotes focus on the limits of human scale, the value of human attachment to historical community and locality, and the value of human connection to nature and the land. Issues of agrarian values, decentralization, localism, and other such concerns are themes that the journal hopes to explore.
’Things Divine’  is Cicero’s phrase, and it is part of his famous claim that “wisdom” entails “knowledge of things divine and human.” The expression is intended to encompass a broad swath of meanings. On the one hand, it connotes openness to theological and philosophical inquiry into what is thought to be ultimate and unconditioned; and so we welcome exploration of topics related to Logos, natural law theory, and other such themes. On the other hand, we are also open to the mythos view of culture—i.e., that many basic truths about reality, which people experience, are often expressed in myths.
With respect to possible thinkers whose work might fit well with the journal’s concerns, they are legion. Here are just a few: Hans-Georg Gadamer, Charles Taylor, Edmund Burke, Stanely Hauerwas, T.S. Eliot, Wendell Berry, Richard Weaver, Rene Girard, Lord Acton, Alasdair MacIntyre, Christopher Lasch, Leo Strauss, Allen Tate, John Randolph of Roanoke, David Hume, James Fenimore Cooper, Robert Nisbet, Alexis de Tocqueville, Eric Voegelin, John Taylor of Caroline, and Michael Oakeshott. This list is far from exhaustive, and many other fine thinkers from across the ideological spectrum could be included and will be welcomed.

Philosophy of Being | by Dr. Taylor Marshall of the College of Saint Thomas More
Aristotle called the philosophy of being "first philosophy" because it does not examine the parts of reality (politics, math, music, history), but reality itself: existence, change, properties, space, time, causality, and possibility. This first philosophy is also called "metaphysics," deriving from the Greek words meta ("beyond") and physica ("physical").

I designed this site for students studying philosophy at the College of Saint Thomas More. Whether or not you are taking courses, I hope that you find the articles, outlines, and essays helpful.

Metaphysically,
Dr. Taylor Marshall

Adoremus Jesum-Eucharistiam! | Let's Adore Jesus-Eucharist!
This web site wishes to defend the divine doctrine of Jesus Christ, as transmitted by the official teachings of His Church; while remaining in full communion with the Pope and our diocesan Bishop; and finally, to defend this doctrine in a legal, moral and rational way [1P 3:15-16].

Other good sites and books defend Catholicism. But we first target Quebec where our Mother the Church is an abused woman, sometimes abused by some of Her own leaders (Deacons, Priests, Bishops, etc.). Those leaders hurt the Church mostly by not defending some teachings, thereby causing enormous harm to all.

The Catholic Church cannot be destroyed, since Almighty God protects Her. Nevertheless, we claim Quebec needs an ecclesiastical enquiry to discover the few bad religious leaders who are hidden inside the Church ("Purge the evil person from your midst" [1Co 5:13]). Despite some despicable past abuses, and the current negative connotations of the word, the correct English term for such an enquiry is "inquisition". A good and joyful inquisition would let the Church refocus itself on Jesus-Eucharist, "source and summit of the whole Christian life" [Lumen Gentium, #11].

Are you Catholic? We suggest you avoid limiting yourself to prayer, but publicly assert that you love your Mother, the Catholic Church. Are you non-Catholic? We also have reading suggestions for you.

Voice of Revolution » The online magazine from the ministry of Dr. Michael Brown
Voice of Revolution is the online magazine of the ministry of Dr. Michael Brown, devoted to helping equip, strengthen, and mobilize a Jesus-people in the earth today: a people devoted to the teachings and character of the Son of God, a people committed to being like Him as well as to doing His will, a people who take God’s Word seriously and feel a holy calling to make their lives count for the Master, a people who believe that as the salt of the earth and the light of the world, we can make a difference. And far from feeling that this is a special or elitist calling, we believe that this is the sacred privilege of every child of God – in denominations, in house churches, in fellowships of all kinds around the world. All those who truly know the Lord are called to live countercultural lives and to be ambassadors of His kingdom.

Graduate School of Religion, Chung Yuan Christian University |

What Is Free Will? from Renewing Your Mind Radio with R.C. Sproul
Free will suggests the ability to do whatever we want without restriction. Most definitions of free will, however, cannot stand the scrutiny brought to bear on them through logic, philosophy, theology, and Scripture.

The Postmodernism Generator was written by Andrew C. Bulhak using the Dada Engine, a system for generating random text from recursive grammars, and modified very slightly by Josh Larios (this version, anyway. There are others out there).

Welcome to the Amos Bronson Alcott Network
Reformer, philosopher, writer, visionary, teacher
From the 1840s to the 1880s, in Concord, Massachusetts, there lived an extraordinary man. He left his mark on all whom he touched, among them Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. Though a poor man, he provided for his family as best he could. Though deprived of his schoolteaching career by local bigots, he was thoroughly an educator in the deepest sense of the word. Though at first rejected by many Christians, he followed the teachings of Jesus as he understood them with undisputable religious fervor. Not content to merely preach his views, Amos Bronson Alcott acted on his beliefs with such conviction that he became—if not the most well-known—perhaps the most comprehensively “transcendental” of all the New England Transcendentalists.

Jacqueline Mariña | Professor of Philosophy | Purdue University
My work focuses on Kant and the 19th century, in particular on the effects of Kant's critical philosophy on issues touching on ethics and religion, for instance, freedom, conceptions of personal identity, and the relations between God, self, and the world. A good bit of my work (appearing in journal articles and book chapters) has been devoted to Kant's ethics and religion, with some attention to Kant's first Critique. I've also done some work in philosophy of religion, focusing on topics such as conceptions of holiness, the relation between religion and ethics, and the problem of religious pluralism; while this work has been driven by the issues, it has always been carried out in conversation with one or more historical figures such as Kant, Schleiermacher or Rudolph Otto. In the past few years I have devoted a good bit of my time to the work of Friedrich Schleiermacher, a too long neglected philosopher and theologian influenced by Kant, whose work nevertheless moves significantly beyond him, and which is greatly important in its own right. These efforts have yielded two books, an edited volume, The Cambridge Companion to Friedrich Schleiermacher, and my own book, which came out with Oxford in the spring of 2008, Transformation of the Self in the Thought of Friedrich Schleiermacher.
I am currently working on a book on Kant and personal identity.
