My name is Jessica. I am a Roman Catholic, Wife, and Home-Educating Mother to our 7 blessings, plus 2 in heaven. I was Home Educated myself, along with my 11 younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful Shower of Roses that she has sent my way! Here I will share a few of the blessings I treasure, as well as other thoughts about home educating, mothering and just life in general! Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.

My name is Rachel Balducci. Welcome to my world!
I am married to a dashing immigration attorney slash basketball coach slash amateur front-room wrestler. Together, we have produced five lively sons and one daughter. Life is an adventure and I am up for the challenge nearly every single day.
I am a writer and a newspaper columnist. My first book, How Do You Tuck In a Superhero, debuted in April 2010.
I also blog over at Faith & Family Live!
My boys are passionate about Chuck Norris and Legos, but are moving into a fervent love of professional sports and food. I am passionate about a great many things, but find myself compelled to say “laundry” and “keeping my baseboards clean.” Lame.
We live in the South and we are Catholic — a rare combination but not as rare as it once was.
I hope your visit to my little corner of the Internet will bring you a smile and some inspiration — and you go away feeling that you are not alone and you are definitely not crazy.
Thanks for stopping by and blessings to you!

Catholic Cuisine
4 weeks ago by fridalee
Catholic Cuisine was founded by Jessica from Shower of Roses, in 2008, after noticing the need for an online source for finding and sharing "Recipes for Celebrating the Feasts and Seasons of the Liturgical Year."
Mealtime provides the perfect opportunity for observing these different seasons and feasts of the Catholic Church in our homes, the "Domestic Church." We are all, especially us moms, cooking and baking every day, why not sanctify these mealtimes and teach our children even more about our beautiful faith at the same time?
Jessica has asked a number of other inspiring Catholic mothers and bloggers to contribute here, and welcomes readers to submit recipes as well, ultimately creating this wonderful collection of "Catholic Cuisine."

Catholic Icing — The Icing on Your Catholic Cake
4 weeks ago by fridalee
The idea behind Catholic Icing is that it’s just the “fun extras” of our Catholic faith. Catholic Icing is devoted to creating and sharing free resources such as crafts, music, games, educational resources, and printable downloads. The internet has become the go-to place for people looking for information, and Catholic mothers and educators are online every day looking for fun ideas that can reach children at their own level. One mom wrote to me “This is a great site for moms with no clue. Now I am a hero to my children.” My goal is to instill a love for God and the Catholic church in children, and I plan to reach them with my site through their mothers and teachers. I want Catholic Icing to be the easy, go-to resource place for Catechists everywhere! Once you have a solid foundation for your faith, why not add some icing?
Sometimes I feature cool Catholic crafts and such that I find on other blogs, but mostly I post original craft ideas that my children and I have completed together. In order to help moms and teachers making plans, I try to run seasonal ideas at least a week before the actual feast day (or what-have-you) happens.
To start finding all the Catholic ideas this site has just waiting for you to discover, try searching the different categories in my navigation bar at the top of this site. You can also check out my project gallery of completed crafts below- just click the picture and it will take you to directions on completing the craft.

THE MAGAZINE AND DAILY BLOG OF CATHOLIC LIVING
*****
At Faith & Family Magazine and Faith & Family Live! our goal is to be a source of support for Catholic women seeking information, inspiration, resources, and encouragement as they embrace their vocations to marriage and motherhood. Our aim is to share personal struggles and triumphs, challenges and joys, and also the lighter side of Catholic living.
Family life is hard work, and those of us who strive to live Catholic family lives can face unique challenges. As we help each other along the way, we hope that our magazine and blog will affirm something that is already written on every mother’s heart: That motherhood is a privilege. That family life is a joy. And that though being a wife and mother is likely to be the single most challenging thing any of us ever do, it is also likely to be the single most important thing any of us ever do as well.
We invite you to pray, laugh, cry, and share the good and the bad right along with us. We hope that you will join us as we work toward building a Christ-centered community where we can encourage and support one another in the joyful, challenging, important work of Catholic living.

Apostolate for Family Consecration | "Catholic Family Vacations: Experience Catholic Familyland a place set apart for your family! Family fun for everyone without leaving God behind!"
5 weeks ago by fridalee
The Apostolate for Family Consecration is a U.S. Roman Catholic lay movement headquartered in Bloomingdale, Ohio. Founded in 1975 by Jerry and Gwen Coniker, it was given Pontifical Status in 2007.
The Apostolate describes its mission as being called "to consecrate families to the Holy Family and in the truths of our Faith in the spirit of Pope John Paul II, thus enabling them to live their baptismal vocation and be effective evangelizers and people of faith in the parishes and movements they belong to." Its motto is "All for the Sacred and Eucharistic Heart of Jesus; all through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary; all in union with St. Joseph." The group is much influenced by St. Louis de Montfort and Pope John Paul II.

LifeIssues.net: Clear thinking about crucial issues. | Oblate Missionaries of Mary Immaculate
6 weeks ago by fridalee
Several thousand articles on the Culture of Life; Jerry Novotny, O.M.I.
*****
Dear Friends,
There are crucial issues that face us today: abortion, aids, bioethics, birth control, when life begins, population concerns, post-abortion healing, etc. But far too often our public debates are long on emotion and short on clear thinking. Along the way, respect for the dignity of human life gets lost in the rhetoric. Our purpose is to promote a “Culture of Life” in which human freedom will find its authentic meaning by joining forces with truth, life and love. This culture “needs new lifestyles which will show respect for the dignity of every individual, especially the weakest, and which will recognize the value of human sexuality in the development of the person.” (Evangelium Vitae)
This website hopes to help change the present situation by providing clear thinking about these most crucial issues. The project was started on September 1st, 2000. We are blessed by the support of serious scholars and good people who are donating their writings. We hope that Oblates and interested visitors will feel inspired to contribute their own well–reasoned writings and research papers.

Hi! My name is Jennifer. I'm an atheist-to-Christian convert and a mom of five young children. If you were hoping to find a blog that talks about conversion, belief, motherhood, writing, wine, and/or horrific scorpion infestations, you've come to the right place.
*****
Jennifer Fulwiler's Conversion Diary began in 2005 as The Reluctant Atheist. A convert to Christianity after a lifetime of atheism, Jennifer entered the Catholic Church in 2007 and writes "about what it’s like to be part of an orthodox faith after a life of atheism." Jennifer has emerged as one of the brightest young defenders of the Faith, in particular against the New Atheists.

You've reached the website of Mark P. Shea, as fun as the fun stuff found on my blog site, Catholic and Enjoying It!. Both this site and my blog are dedicated to the glory of the Blessed Trinity, the honor of Our Lady, the spread of the Catholic Faith, the works of mercy among all persons of good will, the dignity of the human person, and to all things good, joyous, beautiful and tasty. Here you will be able to
* Read my Sheavings;
* Get handy summaries of my current talks (there are always more coming) and find details about how to book me as a speaker;
* See various samples of my work in such varied media as magazines, radio, TV, public speaking, lyric writing, books, tapes, and Internet;
* Ask me questions about the Catholic Faith;
* Check out my calendar; and
* Oh, and if you like my work, please consider supporting a decidedly lower middle class writer with a wife and four kids by clicking on the "Make a Donation" button on the left side of the screen. Not to worry, it's a secure server.
All my work is offered with the prayer that Jesus Christ will be honored, that you will gain some benefit, and that we will all have a bit of fun.

Human Life International
Pro-Life Missionaries to the World
Pro-Life: Following the teaching of the Catholic Church, we defend life from the moment of conception until natural death for every human being.
Missionaries to the World: Our Catholic teachers and trainers work with those of all faiths and cultures all around the globe. We bring the Gospel of Life to places where the culture of death is only beginning to encroach on what are always, naturally, pro-life societies; or where it has already taken root.
In many countries, HLI and its affiliates are the pro-life movement.

Our mission is to convincingly communicate the Catholic Church's teachings on sexual morality to as many members of the faithful as possible. We believe that when faithful Catholics have heard these teachings and understand why they are valid they will embrace
a life of chastity. We also hope Catholics who have chosen this lifestyle will evangelize others when they better understand these teachings. As Christians we must be the light to lead others to the truth.
We believe this message is essential to save souls and to reverse the moral decline present in our society. This decline is evidenced by abortion, promiscuity, and a lack of regard for marriage as a sacrament.
In order to embrace a life of chastity and be able to convince others the following principles should be understood.
* God decides what is sinful, not us.
* Each sin offends God and harms us.
* God speaks through the Catholic Church on faith and morals.
* Contraception is incompatible with God's call to chastity.
If Christians reject marital chastity, their marriages, their relationships with God, their
children's lives, and society will suffer.

AskACatholic.com, formerly Christifideles Pizza and Theology Society, is a Catholic support group of orthodox lay Catholics loyal to the Holy See and the Church's Magisterium whose primary interest is Catholic apologetics and evangelization. They answer questions and clarify misperceptions that visitors have about what the Church teaches (via e-mail), and meet periodically via pizza parties to address questions and concerns they have about the local Church in the Boston, Massachusetts area.
The site focuses on apologetical resources, but there are many other great features too, including a large “knowledgebase” of questions and answers about Catholicism. The site is also updated with new information frequently, making it an interesting and informative site of good Catholic resources.

We are a support network providing resources for those striving to evangelize the world by means of Pope John Paul II's understanding of the human person, explained in his works Love and Responsibility and Theology of the Body. Our aim is to lead every person to an encounter with Jesus Christ.
*****
The 'Theology of the Body' is Pope John Paul II's integrated vision of the human person - body, soul, and spirit. As he explains, the physical human body has a specific meaning and is capable of revealing answers regarding fundamental questions about us and our lives:
Is there a real purpose to life and if so, what is it?
Why were we created male and female? Does it really matter if we are one sex or another?
Why were man and woman called to communion from the beginning? What does the marital union of a man and woman say to us about God and his plan for our lives?
What is the purpose of the married and celibate vocations?
What exactly is "Love"?
Is it truly possible to be pure of heart?
All of these questions and many more are answered in Pope John Paul II's 129 Wednesday audiences, which were given between the years 1979 and 1984. His reflections are based on Scripture (especially the Gospels, St. Paul and the Book of Genesis), and contain a vision of the human person truly worthy of man. John Paul II discusses who man was in the beginning, who he is now (after original sin), and who he will be in the age to come. He then applies this message to the vocations of marriage and celibacy, in preparation for the Kingdom of Heaven.

Catholic Digest | The Magazine for Catholic Living
9 weeks ago by fridalee
Catholic Digest connects with readers through personal stories of triumphs and struggles, joys and challenges, and also the lighter side of Catholic living. We are a source of support and encouragement for those who love their faith, those who struggle with their faith, and those who long to learn more about the richness of Catholic tradition.
We seek the positive in the world and in our Church. We emphasize those things that Catholics are doing right and well as a means of inspiring and encouraging others to do the same. We are hope-filled, optimistic, and forward-looking.
We highlight the goodness and beauty of God’s creation and the truths of His Church. We find abundant joy in Catholic living and aim to express that joy through inspiring words, images, and ideas.
We move our readers beyond inspiration and toward action. We give Catholics the information, tools, and resources they need to answer God’s call to holiness and bring the light of Christ to others.
Catholic life is both uniquely joyful and uniquely challenging. At Catholic Digest, we invite all to join us as we encourage and support one another in the joyful, challenging, important work of faith and family living.

Home - Help For My Life
february 2012 by fridalee
Life is hard and often hurts. Faith is complex and often confusing. Whether acknowledged or not, everyone struggles. As a part of the RBC Ministries family, our commitment is “to make the life-changing wisdom of the Bible understandable and accessible to all.” HelpForMyLife.org is about helping people honestly grapple with the struggles of life we all encounter.
Fear, anger, discouragement, and doubt can be rooted in a tangle of factors including physical health, past and present circumstances, and the choices we have made. While we can’t sit down and sort through the various factors in each person’s life, HelpForMyLife.org exists to help people face tough issues and offers biblical insight and wisdom one would expect to hear from a competent pastor, a skilled counselor, or a trusted friend (Proverbs 15:22).
Our goal is to offer compassion, understanding, and hope to real people with real struggles and to help them find real wisdom and a vision for a fulfilling life that is pleasing to God (2 Corinthians 5:9).

TWBM & Asian Families Today | 今日之家 环球廣播事工
january 2012 by fridalee

meals made easier, one recipe at a time
*****
Any cook who's worked in kitchens with Tom Colicchio and Alain Ducasse has every right to be a food snob, but Jennie is anything but. Her recipes focus on local, seasonal ingredients and are decidedly unpretentious with their suggestions for substitutions and variations based on your own tastes. What we really love, though, is how thoughtful every post is — from salvaging a failed dish to considering why certain food writers can be off-putting to coping with picky eaters, Jennie's angle is always fresh and heartfelt. Under the High Chair
january 2012 by fridalee
It's so nice to come across a family food blog that shows not just pretty pictures of cute sandwich cut-outs next to elaborately crafted birthday cakes. You start to wonder — is this mother actually cooking for kids? If so, where are they in all the pictures? There is a lot real-life energy in this blog — you'll see Aimée's family everywhere from the kitchen to the garden. The homepage illustration picturing a scene of food-fueled mayhem under a high chair instantly makes harried moms feel like they've found a soul-mate in Aimée, but the recipes are nothing if not aspirational. Aimée worked as a chef before she had kids, and you can tell when you come across recipes like chocolate chip chili and glorious fruit cobblers. (Babble)

Big Red Kitchen | A regular gathering of distinguished guests
january 2012 by fridalee
Because she doesn't hit you over the head with more "hilarious" tales about picky eaters or how "lucky" she is to have a child who eats sushi! She doesn't have to say anything about feeding a family because the featured food shouts "family" for her: Buckeyes, pizzelles, Italian wedding soup… it's a challenge to find a recipe in her collection that won't elicit the response, "Yeah, my kid would try that." Plus, how can you resist someone who describes her cooking philosophy like this: "Perfection is pride stepping on creativity. Write 'welcome' in the dust rather than waiting for a clean house to open your home. Laugh when your guest's child vomits on your couch because next month your child will pee on your friend's sofa." Andrea Meyers — making life delicious blog
january 2012 by fridalee
I’m a wife and mom writing about my adventures in the kitchen and garden with my husband and three hungry boys in the Northern Virginia/DC Metro area. I am also a contributor to GoodBite.com as well as a freelance food writer and photographer. My prior career was in K-adult education, and over a 20 year period I worked as an e-learning instructional designer, trainer, and teacher.

Her website is packed with pretty pictures and delicious family-friendly food, but it's also clearly coming from a thoughtful and conscious kitchen. Her Grow-Your-Own twice-monthly event invites bloggers (and beyond) from around the web world to share their experiences cooking food from their own gardens — whether that garden is a four-acre farm or a small container on the kitchen windowsill. You don't have to be Michelle Obama to love that. (Babble)

Cookin Canuck — easy, innovative recipes
january 2012 by fridalee
Because Dara gets that most moms aren’t gourmet chefs and does us the extremely helpful favor of featuring step-by-step photo instructions alongside her recipes — genius. The “Cooking Canadian” (who draws her culinary inspiration from her Jamaican-raised mom and Sandwich-King dad) calls her site a hobby that blossomed into a passion — one that has her “dreaming of new flavor combinations and ingredients” at all hours. To celebrate her blog’s one-year anniversary, Dara recently unveiled her top 10 recipes: shrimp and pesto pizza , pan-fried brie cheese; and eight other yummy faves. (Babble)

Take Back Your Table | Bringing Families Closer, One Meal at a Time...
january 2012 by fridalee
Because she's not trying any complicated dishes here — the recipes veer toward old favorites like creamy pastas, spinach pancakes, tacos, and chocolate chip cookies made with real, fresh ingredients. The only complicated thing she takes on is more macro: Feeding a family while working. There's a real I'm-with-you vibe here that will keep any mom (whether working in an office or at home) coming back for more. PS: That BFA in photography she got at the School of Visual Arts? It was worth it. (Babble)

Cooking Mama - Healthy Meals for Kids and Families - Delish.com
january 2012 by fridalee

We fell in love with the feisty and funny Butler when she said, “Cooking for family is a political act, damn it!” On her CityMama blog, she waxes on everything from counterculture parenting to city-style grocery shopping. And now the local-food sourcing, mostly organic, cooking-from-scratch Californian is working overtime as “Cooking Mama,” on MSN’s Delish.com — sprinkling her perfectly-timed sass throughout her recipes, of course — and we’re reaping the benefits. Gluten Free Mommy | Gluten Free Recipes for the Whole Family
january 2012 by fridalee
When Natalie discovered the reason for her hives was gluten-related, she had no choice but to drastically change her diet. But that doesn’t mean she has to sacrifice taste or quality — in fact, she even feeds her husband and son gluten-free by choice. The site’s neatest feature: Natalie’s menu swaps, a resource for every mom who’s ever asked, “What’s for dinner tonight?” — where she and other food mommy bloggers host recipe exchanges centered around an ingredient of the week. Feisty. Hysterical. Honest. Bold. If her food blog were a person, she'd be the one everyone wants to stand next to at a party; the girl with great stories, laugh-out-loud wit, a twinkle at the edge of her every word. Of course, Krysta's blog is a representation of her own view on life, which is ridiculously delightsome. With posts that are "sometimes about food and sometimes about crazy ludicrous things that seem to only happen to [her]," Krysta will have you hooked on her "evil" ways. (Babble)

In Sock Monkey Slippers
january 2012 by fridalee
In Sock Monkey Slippers is part a food blog celebrating whole fresh food, part family blog, and all of the random steps in between. Full of our family recipes, daily fiascos, a little bit of baby food, and a dash of product reviews. Just a day to day life of this lady in her sock monkey slippers.

All cooking blogs should contain this much joy. Meredith knows that cooking and sitting down to eat with your family is a wonderful thing. After her daughter was born sixteen weeks early, Meredith started In Sock Monkey Slippers to keep her own memories of motherhood and recipes organized, but saw it evolve into "a place where we all can relate and bring a moment of laughter, inspiration, creativity, knowledge or just a break." Whether she's talking about her husband and daughter or her homemade baby food, that spirit always comes through. (Babble)
