Saturday Chorale | A site for lovers of music
14 days ago by fridalee
Welcome. This site's genesis lies in a series of posts on Choral Music entitled "Saturday Chorale" that I wrote over a period of several months on another site. The series was well received, it turned out that a lot of people enjoyed listening to and reading about choral music. Then disaster struck — the posts were wiped out during a server migration that went wrong. The site's technical people worked very hard and managed to retrieve the data. But I'd learnt my lesson, the experience of seeing all that work suddenly vanish spurred me to stop procrastinating and finish setting up this site. Fortunately I had kept my own backup copies of what I'd written about what is some very lovely music. So it wasn't a question of starting completely from scratch.
My ambition for "saturdaychorale.com" is that people who love music will be glad they visited and want to come back. The musical performances I write about and link to here range from medieval music to modern hits. The performers range from the "big name" choirs to ones that aren't so well known. All of them in my opinion are worth your while listening to.
I'll be developing the site further over the next few months, adding new music, but also new features and facilities. What I'll never do is have advertisements on the site, or ask you for money.
I love music in general and choral music in particular, and hope that you'll enjoy the performances that I've highlighted here as much or more as I have.
Kind regards,
markfromireland

A Soldier for Jesus

CHRISTIANS GENERALLY KNOW THAT WE ARE IN A SPIRITUAL WAR. HOWEVER, THE CHRISTIAN ARMY HAS SOME PROBLEMS THAT NEED TO BE ADDRESSED. WE NEED TO STOP SHINING OUR ARMOR, SHARPENING OUR SWORDS AND KILLING OUR OWN WOUNDED. I WILL NOT PRESUME TO RIGHT THE WRONGS OF FOLLOWERS OF JESUS OR CLAIM TO BE AN EXPERT, BUT I WANT TO RAISE SOME POINTS, MAKE SUGGESTIONS, ASK QUESTIONS AND OCCASIONALLY EXPOSE HERESY.WE ARE AT WAR, AND SOULS ARE BEING LOST. WE NEED TO EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATE OUR FAITH!

Armchair Theology | Bible Study and Biblical Theology

Armchair Theology is my outlet for theological thought. What will you find here?
Bible Studies: All my life people have responded positively whenever I led a Bible study and I use this blog to publish Bible study questions and resources related to leading Bible studies.
Biblical Theology: I believe that the Bible is a single story with a climax at the cross. God created the world in order to demonstrate His outrageous love for us – dying on behalf of His enemies. Here you’ll find articles discussing the gospel’s presence throughout Scripture, biblical-theological methodology and related topics.

Blog Professor Felipe Aquino
4 weeks ago by fridalee
UM SITE DE NOTÍCIAS E ARTIGOS SOBRE A IGREJA E A FÉ CATÓLICA
*****
A Autoridade é a Igreja.
Neste sentido, é um auxílio me corrigir. – Prof. Felipe Aquino

The Crescat | Katrina Fernandez
4 weeks ago by fridalee
Fortified with vitamin BXVI. Not a substitute for regular mass attendance. Side effects may include mackerel snapping.
*****
I started writing The Crescat in the fall of 2006, shortly after my conversion, with the sole intent of using the format for apologetics to answer my family’s questions regarding my new found faith. It sort of worked with 3 family members reverting back to our ancestral faith but it turns out, my blog had nothing to do with that. I dragged them to mass and gave them rosaries and that seemed to do the trick.
Seeing that there was nothing I could write that would be more influential than actual actions, like prayer and mass attendance, I made The Crescat a Catholic humor blog offering myself up as penance for my obvious arrogance and spiritual pride- as if my blog and writings could take credit for the conversion of sinners.
Since then, my writings have ranged from politics, relationships, parenting, the arts, satire and good old fashioned self depricating humor. In a constant battle against myself and cynicism I am forced to find the humor and beauty in all situations. It was either this or start smoking again.
What is a “Crescat”? It is Latin for “thrive” or “flourish”. I first encountered the word in the stain glass images that dominate Belmont Abbey in North Carolina. It’s the slogan for the Benedictine’s of this monastery. You can find “Crescat” scrolled at the bottom of large oak trees in their glass windows. Since Benedictines take the unique vow of stability the oak tree symbolizes this in their hearty deep roots. Therefore, Crescat becomes a command for them… take root and thrive, flourish in faith!
And it is from that which I drew the name of this blog, and from that in which you are now exposed to my crescatological musings- a schizophrenic hodge-podge about parenting, lip stick, Nathan Fillion, domesticity, Downton Abbey, chickens, girly blather, Catholicism, political rantings, and art all usually composed during fits of insomnia around 2am.

My name is Rachel Balducci. Welcome to my world!
I am married to a dashing immigration attorney slash basketball coach slash amateur front-room wrestler. Together, we have produced five lively sons and one daughter. Life is an adventure and I am up for the challenge nearly every single day.
I am a writer and a newspaper columnist. My first book, How Do You Tuck In a Superhero, debuted in April 2010.
I also blog over at Faith & Family Live!
My boys are passionate about Chuck Norris and Legos, but are moving into a fervent love of professional sports and food. I am passionate about a great many things, but find myself compelled to say “laundry” and “keeping my baseboards clean.” Lame.
We live in the South and we are Catholic — a rare combination but not as rare as it once was.
I hope your visit to my little corner of the Internet will bring you a smile and some inspiration — and you go away feeling that you are not alone and you are definitely not crazy.
Thanks for stopping by and blessings to you!

Catholic Cuisine
4 weeks ago by fridalee
Catholic Cuisine was founded by Jessica from Shower of Roses, in 2008, after noticing the need for an online source for finding and sharing "Recipes for Celebrating the Feasts and Seasons of the Liturgical Year."
Mealtime provides the perfect opportunity for observing these different seasons and feasts of the Catholic Church in our homes, the "Domestic Church." We are all, especially us moms, cooking and baking every day, why not sanctify these mealtimes and teach our children even more about our beautiful faith at the same time?
Jessica has asked a number of other inspiring Catholic mothers and bloggers to contribute here, and welcomes readers to submit recipes as well, ultimately creating this wonderful collection of "Catholic Cuisine."

Apologética Para el Mundo | José Miguel Arráiz
4 weeks ago by fridalee
1 Pedro 3,15

Catholic Icing — The Icing on Your Catholic Cake
4 weeks ago by fridalee
The idea behind Catholic Icing is that it’s just the “fun extras” of our Catholic faith. Catholic Icing is devoted to creating and sharing free resources such as crafts, music, games, educational resources, and printable downloads. The internet has become the go-to place for people looking for information, and Catholic mothers and educators are online every day looking for fun ideas that can reach children at their own level. One mom wrote to me “This is a great site for moms with no clue. Now I am a hero to my children.” My goal is to instill a love for God and the Catholic church in children, and I plan to reach them with my site through their mothers and teachers. I want Catholic Icing to be the easy, go-to resource place for Catechists everywhere! Once you have a solid foundation for your faith, why not add some icing?
Sometimes I feature cool Catholic crafts and such that I find on other blogs, but mostly I post original craft ideas that my children and I have completed together. In order to help moms and teachers making plans, I try to run seasonal ideas at least a week before the actual feast day (or what-have-you) happens.
To start finding all the Catholic ideas this site has just waiting for you to discover, try searching the different categories in my navigation bar at the top of this site. You can also check out my project gallery of completed crafts below- just click the picture and it will take you to directions on completing the craft.

The Faith Explained with Cale Clarke
4 weeks ago by fridalee
Cale’s two most amazing discoveries in life have been that Jesus would forgive him, and that Patricia would marry him. In 2004, Cale returned to the Catholic Church, which was founded by Jesus Christ, after spending ten years in Evangelical Protestantism, with much of that time spent in pastoral ministry.
Cale is now the director of The Faith Explained Seminars, equipping Catholics with the tools they need to explain and defend their faith. He is a frequent speaker at retreats and conferences, including such noted events as the Humanae Vitae conferences in Toronto, Ottawa, and Kingston, and addressing the Toronto chapter of Legatus. His latest venture is the creation of The New Mass app, the iPhone app for understanding the new English translation of the Mass.
Cale has been interviewed on EWTN’s The Journey Home program, and on CBC News’ The National. A frequent guest on Salt & Light TV, he is a popular columnist for Catholic Insight magazine, and his writing has also appeared on Headline Bistro.

iPadre Catholic Podcasting | Podcasting & blogging on all things Catholic and then some!
4 weeks ago by fridalee
Father Jay Finelli is a priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence in the state of Rhode Island. He began building web pages in 1995 and started podcasting in September of 2005. This is a great new means of evangelization. Pope John Paul II said that we are in need of a new evangelization. Podcasting is a small part of this new work of evangelization. All of us need to do our part in spreading the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
*****
Recorded by the ever-popular Fr. Jay Finelli, the iPadre Catholic Podcast offers "All things Catholic and then some. Interviews, stories, news, music, and we'll see what comes along."

Saint Blogs Parish | a global Catholic community
5 weeks ago by fridalee
St. Blog’s is not an actual Roman Catholic Parish and there is no Saint Blog – most of you will know this instinctively but the question is asked so we’ll take care of that right up front.
So if it isn’t a real Parish then what is it? Well, we’re a loosely knit group of Catholics who maintain personal “blogs” (short for “web logs”)(Thus we are called “bloggers”). Most of us chronicle our daily lives mixing in commentary on the world around us as it affects us and is affected by our Catholic Faith. Some are professional Catholics – Clergy, religious, apologists, writers, journalists, teachers etc., but mostly we’re just ordinary Catholics in the ordinary world.

The Confessional Outhouse | It’s lonely out here
5 weeks ago by fridalee
Do you feel like an “old-school confessionally reformed high-church calvinist presbyterian” in a world where the “low-church-biblicist-revivalist-Evangelical-pietist-enthusiast-sentimentalist-experientialist- liberal-fundamentalist-transformationalist” household just keeps winning the day?
You are in the Outhouse my friend, and you are not alone.
First, what the Outhouse, in this contributor’s mind, is not. Contrary to the assumptions of wider religious blogdom, it is not a place for forms of evangelism or apologetics or admonishment or accusation or impunity or anything else one might find in t he proper confines of the Church. Neither is it a place to build community or nurture relationships or perpetuate the public square, etc. So if you take yourself so seriously that you either feel compelled to thump someone’s chest or whimper because you think yours was, the Outhouse may not be good for you. This is neither community nor the courts of the Church. While as prone as anyone to falling below the threshold of maintaining a sense of self-transcendence, the Outhouse desires to be painfully realistic about the fact that nothing is getting eternally solved or temporally created here. In other words, it doesn’t take itself very seriously.
I rather conceive of the Outhouse to be a place of rumination and reflection amongst nearly like-minded people where certain assumptions are in place. By like-minded I mean those who have been persuaded in confessional Reformed orthodoxy and take certain things for granted. The Outhouse is less interested in debating the finer points of confessional Reformed orthodoxy, like Calvinism (or popular contemporary controversies), and more interested in reflecting upon the broader implications of it in our day over against the implications of the larger Household (a concept explained below). Another forum might be better suitable for those who wish to join the cacophony of cracker-jack apologists, evangelists, theologians and social critics.

Faith & Family Live!

THE MAGAZINE AND DAILY BLOG OF CATHOLIC LIVING
*****
At Faith & Family Magazine and Faith & Family Live! our goal is to be a source of support for Catholic women seeking information, inspiration, resources, and encouragement as they embrace their vocations to marriage and motherhood. Our aim is to share personal struggles and triumphs, challenges and joys, and also the lighter side of Catholic living.
Family life is hard work, and those of us who strive to live Catholic family lives can face unique challenges. As we help each other along the way, we hope that our magazine and blog will affirm something that is already written on every mother’s heart: That motherhood is a privilege. That family life is a joy. And that though being a wife and mother is likely to be the single most challenging thing any of us ever do, it is also likely to be the single most important thing any of us ever do as well.
We invite you to pray, laugh, cry, and share the good and the bad right along with us. We hope that you will join us as we work toward building a Christ-centered community where we can encourage and support one another in the joyful, challenging, important work of Catholic living.

TAYLOR'S MARSHALL'S NEXT BOOK & PODCAST
*****
This site is an outgrowth of my book The Catholic Perspective on Paul. It is based on the conviction that the Pauline epistles contain the primitive and pristine doctrines of the Catholic Faith. In the Pauline corpus we discover a Paul who is Catholic, a theologian who is sacramental, a churchman who is hierarchical, a mystic who is orthodox. Please enjoy the articles and listen to the talks ("PaulCasts") either directly in the site or via iTunes.

Called to Communion - Catholic and Reformed Dialogue
5 weeks ago by fridalee
Who are the members of Called to Communion?
We are Christians who love Jesus the Messiah, love the faith, love the Scriptures and love the Catholic Church. We are Catholics, but none of us was born or raised in the Catholic Church. We arrived in the Catholic Church in diverse ways but through a similar path involving spiritual formation within the Reformed tradition of confessional Protestantism. We are grateful for all that we learned about the Christian faith in the Reformed tradition. We are also grateful for the piety that we found within the Reformed congregations to which we belonged, and for the love for truth that is a significant aspect of the Reformed tradition. We do not view ourselves as having left our Reformed faith behind, but rather as having found its fullness in the Catholic Church.
What is the Purpose of Called to Communion?
We believe that Christ is calling His Church to be one, as He and the Father are one. This is the prayer and the desire of our Savior’s heart and therefore it is also our desire. Our aim is to effect reconciliation and reunion between Catholics and Protestants, particularly those of the Reformed tradition. We hope to accomplish this by removing obstacles founded upon misunderstandings as well as by engaging in charitable discussion of genuine disagreements, in a context of continual prayer for each other and for the unity of all God’s people. We believe that genuine unity comes through truth and never by forsaking or compromising the truth.

6 weeks ago by fridalee
