Cistercian Publications
Cistercians are men and women who follow Saint Benedict's Rule for Monks and the Constitutions of Cîteaux. Settling in 1098 in a remote burgundian marsh (in Latin cisterna), the first Cistercians determined to live simply and to balance in their lives common prayer, personal reflection, and manual labor. For guidance they read the Bible, the writings of the Church Fathers, and the documents of centuries of christian monasticism. The literature they created resonates their love of God and their reasoned analysis of the intensely personal experience of growth through self-knowledge to self-acceptance to the perception of God.
Cistercian Publications brings the insights of these remarkable twelfth-century writers into English in its Cistercian Fathers Series A companion Cistercian Studies Series augments these texts with translations of ancient, medieval, and modern monastic literature, and with works of scholarship and spirituality touching the claustral tradition. Translators work from the finest available critical scholarship and strive to strike a balance between fidelity to the original and contemporary ways of expression.

Faith and Philosophy - Home Page
Faith and Philosophy is published quarterly by the Society of Christian Philosophers. The journal encourages discussions among philosophers representing a wide variety of theological perspectives and philosophical orientations that fall largely within the philosophy of religion. It seeks critical and reflective self-understanding of Christian faith carried out in dialogue with those who do not, as well as with those who do, share its Christian commitment. Faith and Philosophy seeks to serve the Christian community by articulating Christian faith in a way that will withstand rigorous examination and by exploring the implications of that faith for all aspects of human life. It also seeks to serve the intellectual community at large by providing clear and credible discussions of issues related to Christian faith.
Faith and Philosophy is widely recognized as the leading journal in its field. It carries refereed scholarly articles which address philosophical issues from a Christian perspective, for discussions of philosophical issues which arise within the Christian faith, and for articles from any perspective which deal critically with the philosophical credentials of the Christian faith. Along with full-length articles, Faith and Philosophy features back-and-forth critical discussions, symposia, and reviews of books.

Protestant Apologetics and Theology
The dove Noah released from the ark soared across the wide seas that engulfed the world, found no roost, and sought again the refuge of the great vessel. So man has departed from the truths of the bible, using wings of independence to seek distant horizons. But like the weary dove, through the years many have returned to the changeless certainty of God's Word following years of aimless flight. As one generation begins to drift from the Gospel, the following generation finds it anew, clinging tenaciously to its teachings as though they were the first to discover them.

Drew University
Drew University is a private university located in Madison, New Jersey.
Originally established as the Drew Theological Seminary in 1867, the university later expanded to include an undergraduate liberal arts college in 1928 and commenced a program of graduate studies in 1955. Nicknamed the "University in the Forest" because of the serenity of its wooded 186 acres (753,000 m²) relative to the school's suburban surroundings, Drew University maintains a combined undergraduate and graduate enrollment of approximately 2,500 students, with the majority living on-campus.
While Drew is affiliated with the United Methodist Church, it makes no religious demands of its students. Many of the Theological School's students and faculty are United Methodist, and the General Commission on Archives and History of the United Methodist Church is housed on campus.

以撒书房 - 基督教书籍|基督教礼品|耶稣|圣经|上帝|信仰 - 以撒书房 Powered by Hishop

Home Page - Concordia Theological Seminary
Concordia Theological Seminary is a vibrant community of students, staff, and faculty dedicated to teaching the faithful, reaching the lost, and caring for all. Since it’s founding in 1846, CTS, as an educational institution of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, has served God’s people by preparing men for the holy ministry, and more recently in preparing women to serve as deaconesses.
Men and women are taught by a distinguished faculty dedicated to equipping students to serve effectively in an ever-changing world. In addition to teaching in the classroom our faculty travels throughout the world, bringing God’s word to people on every continent. In like manner, CTS students learn not only in the classroom, but also “learn by doing” in congregations and the mission field. This mission field reaches across the United States to Madagascar, Latvia, South Africa and beyond.
CTS also serves as a first-rate resource for laypeople. From confirmation retreats to Christ Academy to Good Shepherd Institute, people of all ages will find an opportunity to expand their horizons on our campus.

Misconceptions About the Middle Ages | ORB: The Online Reference Book for Medieval Studies
Edited by Stephen J. Harris and Bryon L. Grigsby
*****
This collection arose out of a discussion between Julia Bolton Holloway and R.A. Ross on Med-Rel, a list dedicated to the study of medieval religion. During the discussion, list members articulated a pressing need to address some prevalent misconceptions about the Middle Ages before a more general audience. This electronic book is the result.
In its diversity, the following collection reveals a very important facet of medieval study. Often, the Middle Ages, which arguably comprise about 1100 years, are (if I may use the plural again) considered by those just introduced to the field as one homogeneous, temporal and cultural lump. But as the variety of subjects addressed here implies, the Middle Ages were no simpler a time than our own. We hope that this collection can serve to introduce that variety and to orient interested readers towards more detailed studies.
Each contribution is brief, and some are linked to longer studies. All contributors recommend books for further reading. A number of essays have yet to be posted, so Misconceptions is always growing. If you would like to contribute an essay, please contact me at miscon@bede.net. Be sure to check back occasionally (command-D to bookmark). I am joined by my co-editor Bryon Grigsby in saying that it has been a privilege to compile this collection. We hope we have done the contributions justice, and apologize beforehand for any errors. We owe large debts of thanks. But there are so many people to thank that we can only ask leave to be grateful to all. All contributions are copyrighted to their respective authors. So, as the Venerable Bede said, "Lege Feliciter!"

ReligiousWorlds: Sources for Religion, Religions, Religious Studies
This site - www.religiousworlds.com - is an information source about religions and religious studies for scholars and students.
*****
This web site offers information about religious traditions that appeared at first in the Middle East or West Asia as well as ones from South and East Asia. (Traditions from Africa will take a place among them in future.) There are authorized copies of resources from two contributing scholars, too:
1) Research on the German historian of religion and theologian Rudolf Otto (1869-1937) by Gregory D. Alles.
2) The Fondarosa, a mirror of the original site in Ottawa that contains essays written by Marc Fonda.
If you are a journalist rather than student of religions, please consult religionsource and religionlink. If you are simply are in a hurry, and do not like to be troubled by details, then see the Big Religion Chart or the CIA World Factbook. If you need a quick reflection of your own preferred religious orientation, then try Belief-O-Matic.

Welcome to Tim's Online Desk
Welcome to my Online Desk! I have created this website in order to share information about myself. I have a Masters and Ph. D. in Church History from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. My most recent teaching positions include Adjunct Instructor in the REACH program at Trinity International University, Deerfield, IL, and Visiting Adjunct at Jos ECWA Theological Seminary in Jos, Nigeria. In the fall of 2005 I began teaching as an adjunct for both Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. I have been asked to also teach as an adjunct for The College at Southwestern beginning in the fall of 2006.
My current/recent projects include:
Leading a History of Christianity Seminar at Fielder Road Baptist Church in Arlington, Spring 2006
Teaching Systematic Theology I and II for SWBTS in Marshall, TX, 2005-2006 academic year
Teaching Church History I and II for NOBTS in Shreveport, LA, 2005-2006 academic year
Teaching classes for The College at Southwestern, beginning Fall 2006
Writing Articles for The Southern Baptist Encyclopedia and the Encyclopedia of Christian Civilization
Book review for Baptist History & Heritage
Leading a college winter retreat for First Baptist Church, Boone, NC in January 2007
In addition to a continued desire to expand my knowledge, I enjoy participation in my local church. My wife and I are active members in an adult Sunday School class and assist with an after school program. I have also made contact with the regional SIM (Serving in Mission) director and have made myself available for various volunteer needs.
It is my long-term desire to find a teaching position in a local college or seminary. I believe this is my calling in life. I also see and feel a call to play a part in academic mission trips, whether they be short or long-term. For the next few years, however, I will remain in the DFW area as my wife will not complete her surgical residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, TX until the summer of 2009.
I do hope that you find the information contained in this website to be helpful and useful. If you have any questions and wish to contact me, please do so by email.
Sincerely,
Timothy M. McAlhaney, Ph. D.

Northrop Frye's Theory of Archetypes
Northrop Frye working in the field of literature defined an archetype as a symbol, usually an image, which recurs often enough in literature to be recognizable as an element of one’s literary experience as a whole.  Another way of thinking about archetypes is to imagine that in some way it is possible to plot the important aspects of a story onto a graph.  If enough points from several stories were plotted a pattern would start to appear.  If one then drew a line that approximated the pattern that emerged in the points, that best fit line would be an archetype.  No story perfectly matches the archetype, and some stories will diverge from the archetype more than others.  Still, recognizing that a pattern exists can be a powerful tool in understanding and comparing literature.

The series was well received, it turned out that a lot of people enjoyed listening to and reading about choral music. Then disaster struck — the posts were wiped out during a server migration that went wrong. The site's technical people worked very hard and managed to retrieve the data. But I'd learnt my lesson, the experience of seeing all that work suddenly vanish spurred me to stop procrastinating and finish setting up this site. Fortunately I had kept my own backup copies of what I'd written about what is some very lovely music. So it wasn't a question of starting completely from scratch.
My ambition for "saturdaychorale.com" is that people who love music will be glad they visited and want to come back. The musical performances I write about and link to here range from medieval music to modern hits. The performers range from the "big name" choirs to ones that aren't so well known. All of them in my opinion are worth your while listening to.
I'll be developing the site further over the next few months, adding new music, but also new features and facilities. What I'll never do is have advertisements on the site, or ask you for money.
I love music in general and choral music in particular, and hope that you'll enjoy the performances that I've highlighted here as much or more as I have.
Kind regards,
markfromireland
