Issues with position fixed & scrolling on iOS
With the release of iOS 5, fixed positioned layout is said to be supported in MobileSafari. The word supported needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, because there’s all kinds of issues which I intend to show you in the following post.

LukeW | Multi-Device Layout Patterns
Through fluid grids and media query adjustments, responsive design enables Web page layouts to adapt to a variety of screen sizes. As more designers embrace this technique, we're not only seeing a lot of innovation but the emergence of clear patterns as well. I cataloged what seem to be the most popular of these patterns for adaptable multi-device layouts.

Anatomy of a mobile web experience: google.com | mobiForge
In a recent blog post that I did here on mobiForge (Server-side device detection used by 82% of Alexa top 100 sites) some people expressed surprise that a 47 byte difference in the HTML payload delivered by Google to different devices constituted a significant level of server-side adaptation. On checking my results, it turned out that this minor 47 byte file size difference actually masks an entirely different HTML document served to different devices—an approach that Google use extensively in its mobile presences.

The Mobile Case for Progressive Enhancement | Brad Frost Web
There’s a mentality that in order to do create functional experiences in the browser, especially for mobile, you need to use some hardcore JS framework, rewrite the scrolling logic, add a bunch of interstitial animations, create overlays and add swipes. I have nothing against frameworks or these techniques, but for whatever reason people think they’re a prerequisite for creating mobile web experiences. They’re not.

Edinburgh International Book Festival mobile site – Tinned Fruit
We decided that a mobile web site would serve the Book Festival’s needs better than would native applications. Here’s why we came to that decision, and how building an interactive and responsive mobile website need not be as huge a departure from traditional web development as you might think.

Tom Hume: app.ft.com, and the cost of cross-platform web apps
One of the most interesting talks at OverTheAir was, for me, hearing Andrew Betts of Assanka talk about the work he and his company had done on the iPad web app for the Financial Times, app.ft.com.

“Native vs Web apps on mobile; what do you think?” I think about it all the time. And I talk to developers all the time so I think I know what they’re thinking. Thus this piece, which is goes on and on and on but that’s OK, blogging is for long-form pieces! Includes a case study with screenshots.

Mobile Web vs Native App: Give It a Rest (Global Moxie)
But my dirty little secret—spoiler alert!—is that I don't really think it's a matchup at all. Providing a great experience almost certainly means that you'll do both. We're all in this together, friends.

Your company? There's an app for that.
Few technology and device-making companies probably realize it, but they are in direct competition with Apple (or soon will be). How did this happen? Well, the iPhone1 does a lot of useful things pretty well, well enough that it is replacing several specialized devices that do one or two things really well. Space in backpacks, pockets, and purses is a finite resource, as is money (obviously). As a result, many are opting to carry only the iPhone with them when they might have toted several devices around. Here is a short list of devices with capabilities duplicated to some degree by the iPhone:

Media Queries
The term Responsive Web Design was coined by Ethan Marcotte and is the practice of using fluid grids, flexible images , and media queries to progressively enhance a web page for different viewing contexts.

By restricting CSS rules to a certain width of the device displaying a web page, one can tailor the page's representation to devices (i.e. smartphones, tablets, netbooks, and desktops) with varying screen resolution.

EUROPA - Press Releases - Harmonisation of a charging capability of common charger for mobile phones - frequently asked questions
Incompatibility of chargers for mobile phones is a major environmental problem and an inconvenience for users across the European Union. Currently specific chargers are sold together with specific mobile phones. A user who wants to change his/her mobile phone must usually acquire a new charger and dispose the current one, even if this is in perfect condition. This unnecessarily generates important amounts of electronic waste.
