Image error level analysis is a technique that can help to identify manipulations to compressed (JPEG) images by detecting the distribution of error introduced after resaving the image at a specific compression rate. I stumbled across this technique in this presentation by Neal Krawetz and decided to do a quick implementation in JavaScript.

Image to ZX Spec 1.2.1 is a multi core capable image and video converter that can produce vintage computer art images (jpeg/png) of any size and can even convert work to a real ZX Spectrum (or an emulator) as a slideshow or video. This is useful to create retro music videos, posters, mock screenshots etc etc - you do not even need a Spectrum to use this program!

It came to my attention recently just how fragile the connections are between the iconal representation of a concept and the actual concept. Here is the Microsoft Word icon for “to save”. It’s a floppy disk. There is only a tenuous connection between saving and a floppy disk even for those of us who know what a floppy is (and at the moment most of us remember them), but floppy disks are on their way to becoming as unknown as Charles Yerkes. Don’t know who I’m talking about? That’s my point.

This new bug makes a fresh IE6 user (that is, one who didn't visit the bage before) generate much more server hits than one with any other browser would. Microsoft is not interested in the fact that users are wasting bandwidth, not in the fact that Web servers are wasting bandwidth; this is not their money. However Microsoft is interested in the fact that Web servers got 10 times more hits from Internet Explorer than they get from other browsers.
