I went to see The Avengers. But stupidly I went to see it in 3D. It didn’t totally ruin my enjoyment of the film (it’s the best Marvel film so far) but here’s why I reckon 3D is damaging to the cinema experience:

The biggest problem with 3D, though, is the "convergence/focus" issue. A couple of the other issues -- darkness and "smallness" -- are at least theoretically solvable. But the deeper problem is that the audience must focus their eyes at the plane of the screen -- say it is 80 feet away. This is constant no matter what.

Coding In Paradise: 3D Slides Built with HTML5, CSS3, and SVG

I've created a 3D slide deck that uses HTML5, CSS3, and a bit of SVG (video). The main idea behind this deck is to be able to 'zoom' into topics to as deep a level as necessary. Slides are nested, like an outline.

After doing the CSS Paper Bird effect, I found out that by a combination of the CSS1 properties background-attachment and background-position, 2D displacement maps could be created and, by scrolling, the displacement map would be applied to different parts of the texture (a background image).

Here & There - a horizonless projection in Manhattan

Here & There is a project by S&W exploring speculative projections of dense cities. These maps of Manhattan look uptown from 3rd and 7th, and downtown from 3rd and 35th. They're intended to be seen at those same places, putting the viewer simultaneously above the city and in it where she stands, both looking down and looking forward.

3-D CAPTCHA

The following is a design for a CAPTCHA that is likely invulnerable to automated decryption. I originally developed this as part of an anti-spam system that was a very early progenitor of Receiver Initiated Authentication. This CAPTCHA should be particularly invaluable given the recent reports that bots now have as high as a 35% successful attack rate against both the Microsoft and Yahoo CAPTCHA.
