I thought it would be useful to take a step back and describe a little bit of the background of how the Windows 8 user interface was designed, and discuss some of the decisions we’ve made and the goals of this new experience in more detail. The results were astonishing. Kids from the preschool group were less likely to be arrested and more likely to have a job. Among those with jobs, those who went to preschool made more money than those who did not. Other studies show similar results.

But people who want to learn are getting stuck. Not stuck on functions and variables and loops, because those are pretty easy, and there are actually a lot of good tutorials for them these days. No, people are getting stuck on APIs and libraries and all the other difficulties of talking to existing code, which are needlessly opaque and obscured by jargon.

Requests is an ISC Licensed HTTP library, written in Python, for human beings. Python’s standard urllib2 module provides most of the HTTP capabilities you need, but the API is thoroughly broken. It was built for a different time — and a different web. It requires an enormous amount of work (even method overrides) to perform the simplest of tasks.

When I was in Austin, TX with my girlfriend, I met a family friend of hers called Pete. Pete is a games enthusiast with a special spot for retro games. He has a YouTube channel that you should check out if you like random gaming stuff. He also has a game room.

As far as Pixar stories go, this one is pretty unbelievable. Pixar’s Oren Jacob and Galyn Susman recall how the studio almost lost the pre-rendered animation data for Toy Story 2 due to an accidental Linux command and faulty backup. The solution recalls a nostalgic time in the company’s history before they had become the industry’s most successful animation studio; it’s unlikely such a resolution would be possible today with the tightened corporate security at Pixar. Then again, I’m sure they have better back-ups, too.

In a way I should be grateful to Ian “Hixie” Hickson for being an egotistical tyrant. Without his inability to acknowledge that a consensus-driven, well-crafted and usable solution built by a group of well-meaning, hard-working people could actually somehow be better than his own personal opinion, he’s pulled me out of my long-hiatus and back to to the drawing board.

It's nice that the conversation has largely turned from whether or not preprocessing is a good idea to which one language is best. Really short answer: SASS

I think I get to feel most irritated when I hear or read allegedly balanced commentators talking about the 'debt crisis' or the 'deficit' as if it's a bit of the weather that blew in with the westerlies.
