Archibald Carey, Jr. - Wikipedia
Excerpt from the end of his speech to the 1952 Republican National Convention:

"We, Negro Americans, sing with all loyal Americans:
'My country 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the Pilgrims' pride,
From every mountainside,
Let freedom ring!'
That's exactly what we mean—from every mountain side, let freedom ring. Not only from the Green Mountains and White Mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire; not only from the Catskills of New York; but from the Ozarks in Arkansas, from the Stone Mountain in Georgia, from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia—let it ring not only for the minorities of the United States, but for the persecuted of Europe, for the rejected of Asia, disfranchised of South Africa and for the disinherited of all the earth—may the Republican Party, under God, from every mountainside, 'LET FREEDOM RING.'"

Great City Seeks New Leader | Politics | Chicago Reader
There's a job opening in a big Midwestern city: "We are seeking a creative problem-solver to run our large midwestern city. We have a sparkling lake, an internationally acclaimed downtown park, and a minor ($655 million) budget issue. / Applicant should demonstrate an abiding faith that he/she can balance the budget, improve the lives of residents, and distribute resources more prudently and equitably. Or at least that he/she can keep city from falling into the sparkling lake. / Candidate must have resided in city a minimum of one year, but exceptional applicants may receive "relocation" assistance from our Ghost Address Bureau. / We also offer a splendid benefits package, including chauffeur, bodyguards, personal physician, City Hall shoe-shine, choice seats at sporting and cultural events, and unlimited visits to our internationally acclaimed downtown park."

I Am Chicago a neighborhood photo project by Adam Novak, Sara Collins, and Andrew Zoechbauer
"We set up a portable, natural-light studio on Chicago’s neighborhood corners. We spend a day ... inviting all who pass by to step into our studio [to have a full-length portraits made]. To encourage participation, we offer participants a professional print of their portrait, made on the spot. " (creators are recent SAIC, no surprise)

Bubbly Creek Proposed Restoration
"While the stockyards are gone, Bubbly Creek remains in its contaminated state. Accumulated sediments fill most of the channel and continue to produce gases, which foul the air and contribute to global warming. The headwaters of the creek are no longer the drainages of the two small tributary swales but, rather, a combined sewer pumping station.
Today, Bubbly Creek is an opportunity, not the monstrous liability made famous by Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle. The creek could support a new kind of urban environment, one that brings beauty and wildlife into the city, provides high quality recreational opportunities, encourages and maintains economic development, and safely processes urban stormwater. Rehabilitation of Bubbly Creek is long overdue."
