TBD.com will be a continuous news site // Lost Remote
may 2010 by fabianmohr
"...that means publishing news in a blog-format, where the lead is whatever happened most recently. This is hard for traditional news sites to grasp – we’re used to the finished news product and deciding which story to tell the audience is the lead – but continuous news is how people consume information online. It also doesn’t hurt that the format plays very nicely with Google. "

Is Fast Flip Really the Best Google Can Do to Save the News? // ReadWriteWeb
september 2009 by fabianmohr
"Overall, Fast Flip just seems like a disappointing product. The cooperation with content producers is interesting, though we wonder if a single AdSense unit on the site will really make newspapers any money. Google Reader or personalized applications like my6sense on the iPhone or feedly on the desktop just seem far more interesting and usable than browsing through a series of screenshots."

Internet Overtakes Newspapers as News Source // Pew Research Center
december 2008 by fabianmohr
"The internet, which emerged this year as a leading source for campaign news, has now surpassed all other media except television as a main source for national and international news. Currently, 40% say they get most of their news about national and international issues from the internet, up from just 24% in September 2007. For the first time in a Pew survey, more people say they rely mostly on the internet for news than cite newspapers (35%)."

Trying some experiments at work // News Videographer
september 2008 by fabianmohr
"About once per month, I run a Brightcove report on our video hits and try to analyze how we’ve been doing with building an audience. The results are never as good as I would like. In fact, I generally feel depressed and dejected after running my monthly report. (...) With such low numbers, even after more than two years of working hard to build an audience, I must conclude that we are doing something wrong."

NewsCred, a Credible News Dashboard Opens to the Public // ReadWriteWeb
august 2008 by fabianmohr
"...we're having a tough time overlooking the fact that it's a free for all ratings fest. I can credit or discredit a source or article on a whim and not suffer any consequences for it. There could be some serious brand demoralizing done at NewsCred with its new public launch. While we'd recommend adding some restrictions for crediting and discrediting sources, we honestly like the service."
