Saguru, it must be said, had a finer appreciation of humanity than he did of instruments, and of authenticity than he did of pretense. He frequented several places around Tokyo that, had they been in America, would have been called speakeasies by the layman only familiar with such venues from movies set post-Prohibition. None fit comfortably into such simple categories as bar, restaurant, or theatre; most had an unwritten policy of firmly ejecting uncouth parties. All of them featured vocalists, usually singular, in styles that were not so much 'forgettable lounge act' as they were 'Billie Holiday' and 'Norah Jones'.

And then we must ask ourselves, if Eiichi's karma is this bad with help, what the hell would he be attracting without?

This was all Kouchan's fault.

He tripped headlong over the ball again, smashing into someone sitting on a park bench. The man's suitcase skittered over the ground and popped open, a cushioned velvet box tumbling out.

For most of the world, Tuesdays were fairly unremarkable. It was the night of nuked leftovers and mediocre television, of putting off projects and not studying for the unevitable Friday tests.

In the Kuroba household, it was the night Kaito usually worked late, for exactly that reason. "No one's vigilant on a Tuesday," he'd said more than once, sometimes scoffing, sometimes laughing. "That's what makes it perfect for test runs."

"Coming!" he called out, swinging the child up in his arms. Peals of baby laughter rose. Kaito couldn't help laughing along as he jogged to the front door.

"Well, I see you're having fun," Conan commented dryly when he opened it.

Appears to be a flourishing city with a substantial underground subsection. Law enforcement appears to be wildly scattered and scarce. Do not foresee any immediate problems with expanding operations into Ankh-Morpork

I've seen more dead bodies recently than I ever saw with the Tokyo police. And I'm good at putting things together-- it comes with being a detective. I didn't used to run into dead people every time I turned around. That started recently, right about the time I let that damn kid move in with us.

It had been a really, really, really, really long night, Toichi decided. What a heist, indeed. He was exhausted. All he really wanted to do now was crawl into bed and sleep for about two or three weeks.

Magic Kaito One Shot 'You! Figures you'd be asinine enough to show up.'

Complete - Kaitou Kid promised a heist to Hattori Heiji, and it's time to deliver. But Conan has been sitting on something and figuring out how to deal with it. When all collide at the heist, can things go well? No, of course not.

Watanuki quite literally runs into an odd boy with an even odder spirit-double.

MK. It's not so much that she hates him, as that he makes her furious. Which is probably why she doesn't see it coming, until it's already there. Aoko/Kid.

Prompt: I suddenly had a craving the other day to see an Animal!Kaito and Animal!Hakuba fic. Hakuba could be falcon (for watson) or horse (for his name). Kaito can be anything you like. Demi/half human form!

This was supposed to be part of the actual sequel, with Kaito and Conan, but the scene didn't fit there so I took it out and then realized it happened beforehand anyway. It might be a little disjointed as a result? I can't tell. But anyway.

Koizumi Akako/Hakuba Saguru
Akako seems immune to all logic. He cannot figure her out - and that only serves to make her all the more fascinating.

In which Kudo loses a few last hopes, and goes further into Kaitou Kid's head than he ever anticipated. Now a series, as the fallout settles and things don't -quite- fade into the dark.

Genre: Friendship. Humor. Also, some man-on-man porn.
Pairing: Heiji/Shinichi (established background Heiji/Kazuha and Shinichi/Ran, no partner betrayal.)

Word Count: around 1400. Oneshot, complete.
Rating: PG-13? Passing mentions of gruesome murder, but nothing excessively detailed.

Conan already has some kind of corpse-finding power, but when Heiji is in his orbit the corpses actively come to them.

Conan: And I do NOT appreciate chasing MY OWN SON around doing the same stupid stunts your father pulled when we were your age!

In the face of a DNA analysis Kaito can't deny, he begins uncovering the rest of his family's secrets. Too bad he's not the only one looking.

It's a good thing his brand of crazy isn't the kind that's all that interested in immortality. (Where's the breathless exhilaration of taking insane risks if you already know you're going to be fine, no matter what? Takes all the fun out of it.) It's a good thing he didn't want Pandora as anything but bait, and to keep it out of worse hands, because he'd have felt gypped.

So many in the Detective Conan universe have secrets. What is Hattori Heiji's?

A familiar hand clapped down over Conan's mouth, an arm like an iron band scooping him off his feet to spin into the darkness. Padded metal clicked over his wrist, the watch snapping free and vanishing, then Conan's back thumped up against cold concrete and Kid shoved his other hand up to lock the handcuffs around it.

What on earth were Snake's masters thinking? "Oh yes, shoot Kaitou Kid on live national television," Saguru muttered, flicking his gaze up past his hand in the direction of Kid's escape, though the glider had vanished into the night. "That'll keep us out of the public eye." He made a disdainful sound in his throat, pretended it didn't sound miserable. "Imbiciles..."

Kid's dress is soaked through.

He doesn't really notice, at first, kneeling in the mud by the riverbank, empty-handed and watching the paramedics load Conan into the ambulance. Their pulsing lights mingle with those of the police, Conan's little cohort clamoring at the ambulance doors and officers circling like sharks. Even that doesn't dredge up his instinct to run, drowned -- bad word, bad word -- as it is in the twist in his stomach.

Figures. Soon as I go bemoaning my inability to write... bang! Fluff falls out of my head. We all remember Kiss Meme: Calculating, right? Jounouchi and Hakuba keep falling on each other mouth-first? Well, if you don't, here are Pts. 1-6 and Pt. 7.

So did I mention this fic has a bit of CCS on the sidelines? No? It does. (In case you didn't catch it, it's Kaiba's "inhumanly patient secretary".) And sadly, there is no Jounouchi/Hakuba in this part, nor is it what I've been trying to write as Pt. 8 for months. But how could I resist this opening line?

Kaito blew out a breath. “Are you sure it’s not the same people? It’s possible Snake’s division was subcontracted or something. It’s not like clothes and codenames are conclusive evidence.”

“True…but their M.O., their styles don’t quite seem to match either.” The detective fell silent for a moment, thinking. “I don’t know. It sounds like we’re dealing with two different organizations. At best, different branches of the same group working in different directions.”

Case Two Ayumi tries to make peace with the ghost of Kudou Shinichi. Second story in a trilogy

Grabbing a few soybeans from the bowl, Shigeru decided to ask the question that had been bothering him for most of the day.
“Er… Megure-keibu? I was wondering… You mentioned grade-schoolers? I kept hearing some of the officers talking about a ‘weird kid,’ during the operation…”

Somebody had been in a morbid mood the day he wrote this, Kaito thought, chewing absently on the capped end of his red pen. The riddle itself was easy enough, with a bit of thought

"Kaito." The spirit spoke again and Sakon felt himself relax. The boy's murdered father. Surely he would argue with his son's actions and put an end to this mischief.

prompt: Gender-reversal: Hakuba and Kaito, mutual exploration. Maybe they piss off Akako and get zapped with a spell? Whatever. They'd make cute girls.

”I still can’t believe that you invited me up here to discuss the latest Shonen Sunday series.” Conan muttered. He was still slightly wary, unsure of what to make of the invitation, or the offer of sorbet. But it seemed that the Kaitou Kid mostly wanted a chance to relax and talk, so he was holding off on using Agasa’s toys. And he had to admit that the Italian Ices were good, after sampling a taste of the Kid’s to make sure they weren’t poisoned. “I don’t care what your real age is, aren’t you a bit old to be reading children’s books?”

The worst part about is that Conan already knows what they're going to try to talk about.

"Ran and I went shopping today. She wouldn't hold my hand through the crowds. If you know... if you understand... meet me where we first faced off. Please."

Yeah, I did another Wanderers short! *For those of you who don't remember, that's my "Takagi raised by Kenshin" universe*

This is a followup to "Sympathy By Moonlight," which you may recall, and I may link to, if I can dig it out. Warning, religious concepts herein are from my fictional universe, and so may be offensive to people who don't like alternate takes on Christianity.

Conan hadn't come to the party.

Without any murders, disappearances, death threats, or thefts having occured during the performance or while Kaito and his fellow interns were packing up for the next night, that only meant that Conan couldn't have reached the theater at all, three hours ago. And although sometimes cases did take three hours to solve, something about waiting for Conan this time prickled in Kaito's heart like a perfect rehearsal would. One of the theater superstitions that made sense, perfection meant overconfidence, meant disaster in the making.

Mouri Kogorou was no fool.

Takagi blushed. "No! N-no, not at all. I have... um, family coming in for a visit, that's all. They haven't been to Tokyo for quite some time, so I'm just going to show them around." [Wanders series]

It was okay. She could do this. It was just like denouncing the killer, solo. She could practically do that in her sleep. Okay, so she'd only had three or four -- no, wait, there'd been the time with her grandmother up in Hokkaido -- five cases, then, where she hadn't had any of the Tantei there to back her up and cross-check theories. But still, she could do this.
