I got to thinking about how lucky SG-1 was that they never had anything that transformed them permanently, and how there must be a few SGC personnel who weren't so lucky. Thus this was born.

Rodney was like a planet, he drew people into his orbit; graduate students, students, colleagues; and spat them out again, often dazed, usually bitter, but always better scientists for it.

John Sheppard has had over twenty years to come to grips with the fact that every four or five weeks, he turns into a mountain lion. Like most Were, he accepts that that's just the way it is, and so he's not particularly interested when he learns that researchers at the local university are trying to to develop drugs that will help Were control their cycles. Then he meets Dr. Rodney McKay, a brilliant but irascible biochemist with reasons of his own for spearheading the university's Were research and John suddenly finds himself struggling with more than just his attraction to McKay.

Cam blinks. "Huh?"

"Anquietas loquo!" John repeats, throwing up his hands. "Inglem loquere non possum!"

"Well, crap." Cam rubs his temple. "This could be a problem."

"He called it a relapse but neglected to give the details. Probably because he was too busy calling us a bunch of inept witch doctors whose most advanced diagnostic tests consist of slaughtering chickens and reading the entrails. Then he promised to blow our pathetic excuse for a hospital off the face of the planet if the colonel suffers any negative side effects as a result of our ineffectual fumbling. It was a lot like talking to you, actually."

Naturally, this means that he gets frequent visits from the UPS delivery guy – the very tan (presumably from driving around with the door open all the time, wearing those brown uniform shorts) UPS delivery guy, who, Rodney suspects, is the one responsible for leaving kitty treats with catnip in them on the stoop, not to mention an assortment of strange toys for Rodney: A pencil from the Supreme Court with a double-ended eraser like a gavel. A small Happy Meal Power Ranger. Two juggling balls. Once, a potato.

John hasn't been in a Barnes and Noble for more than a decade, but the interior hasn't changed much. There's still fake wood panelling and ugly carpet, a preponderance of green and gold in the design scheme, and "featured book" displays scattered seemingly at random beside the shelves. It's just his luck that this particular store's "featured book" theme is Atlantis.

Spock had tested unusually high psi as a child, an attribute credited to his father's high psi rating; his mother was more sensitive than many Humans, but her psi rating was on the low side of average by Vulcan standards.

"Any plans for shore leave?" Rodney asks, and this time Sheppard doesn't even look at him.

The full moon was gone for another month and Rodney was back after three nights of confinement in The Box: a tiny cell lined with solid slabs of metal with both an inner and outer door made of steel. It amused the hell out of John all the precautions the guards took with Rodney considering that without the influence of the full moon, the worst thing Rodney could do to them was insult their mothers and threaten to sic his lawyers on them for human rights violations.

She steels herself and bends close, squinting in the mostly-dark. Even in the poor light man is the guy old, skin crazed and molded to his skull like a zombie's, and wispy white hair that trembles in the breeze, and sunken lids.

"Mister?" she asks one last time, even as she realizes that he's dead, and that there's a terrible red wound that looks like teeth had been on the guy's chest, and that it's Ollie's nametag on his torn and bloody Darryl's Gas n'Go shirt.

After the hearings, Rodney took his slap on the wrist, his pay cut and his demotion and went to work for Radek Zelenka at Area 51.

I have--a lot of people. samdonne issued the challenge back in January for a Dean meets John Sheppard that I couldn't--quite--get out of my head when I asked for prompts, which means I hit a record of answring four of my own prompts.

After he hacks Sheppard's computer and sets him up with the most appropriate chat handle ever, Rodney manages to hold out for almost an entire day before he calls the SGC.

First thing you gotta understand is, there were a lot of pissed-off people in our battalion. Because we all respected Colonel Sumner. He was a Marine, one of us, and we don't dick around when it comes to Semper Fi.

McKay"So I've written some papers reminding everyone of the gaping flaws in Robertson's theory," Rodney said, brusquely stripping their clothes off. "It'll be a few days before I get the reviews back. Want to come to Canada with me?"
