Reporter to Cross the Nation on 2 Wheels — Again - NYTimes.com
"Eighteen years ago this summer I rode a bicycle, solo, across the United States and wrote about it. Starting next weekend, after flying from New York to Portland, Ore., I’ll be trying to do it again."

Beat the Heat! Trip to Ocean Shores : Rebels By Bus
other cost: 7 hours for a 3 hour visit. I have a new rule about travel to visit times: the visit should at least equal the amount of travel. So this would be worthwhile if I were staying overnight, but not for a day trip.

Airline Fees - SideStep
right now, Southwest is the only one with 2 checked bags free (which is why Elizabeth flew SWA), and Continental is the only one with free meals. (of the ones I picked; I took out all the foreign carriers & those not generally in Seattle.)

Family bike trip: Portland to Breitenbush and back again
whew. I've driven that route, and that's a fairly solid DRIVE. (note that the bikes had electric assist, which sounds like a good idea.)
