Garden to hatch at Yauger Park - Environment - The Olympian - Olympia, Washington
"The next community garden in a city park is planned at Madison Scenic Park, a 2-acre green space on 10th Avenue Southwest. Webb said design on it probably will begin this year." YES! Also, city will be handling management, registrations, etc., which is definitely a good thing.

Olympia City Councilwoman Karen Rogers' community meetings under fire - State & Federal Government - The Olympian - Olympia, Washington
"Olympia City Council members have expressed concerns that Councilwoman Karen Rogers' community meetings [...] are taking up too much staff time and that she is using the city's website to promote them." I've been confused about the status/officialness of these meetings myself.

Free parking wins - South Sound - The Olympian - Olympia, Washington
"The Olympia City Council voted 4-3 Tuesday night to defeat a plan to start charging $1 an hour at 49 new parking pay stations downtown June 1." ugh. idiots. (for one thing, the meters are already in!) IMHO, the person to target to reverse this is Karen Rogers. Roe, Strub & Ottavelli unlikely to change their minds. IIRC, Roe ran on a "free parking" platform.

McSweeney's Internet Tendency: Dispatches from a Public Librarian.
"When a person goes to a library to get help seeking employment, and they see a notice on the door that says that due to cutbacks the library is not open, it only adds to the persons frustration that there is no hope or places to go for the help that they need." our libraries have cut hours, added fines, cut substitute librarians, reduced the collections budgets, plus I'm assuming a whole bunch more stuff that I don't know anything about.
