In which, in the come down from 1x23, hard questions get asked, but the answers are surprisingly easy to take. Ugh, why wasn't this canon? A beautiful little emotional purge that I think probably would have served everybody better than what actually happened in 1x24.

In which Steve finds out from Grace that Danny has a secret past as a tattoo artist. And have you ever SEEN Alex O's body? Yes. Yes, go there. Adorable family fun times, and then body art kink. Run and do not walk to this fic.

In which Danny wakes to an empty bed, and finds his errant lover in a strange and strangely perfect place. Danny's headvoice! Just--yes.

In which Danny and Steve are stuck in the closet, and Kono makes herself responsible for getting them out of it. Lol, both figuratively AND literally!

In which Catherine plots and Steve massages and Danny jumps, which works out great for everyone. UGH, AWESOME THREESOME FIC, I LOVE IT.

Steve gets new bed sheets and realizes he could get Danny between them, if he plays his cards right. The prose in this was great, staccato and evocative. 

In which Danny is too much for Steve, and Steve is so very, stupidly grateful for that. Companion to The Wild Corners. Hearts everywhere. Every. where.

In which Danny gets injured on the job, and Steve takes care of everything. Hahaha, this was lovely.

In which Rachel and Stan and Grace have to move to San Diego, which brings Danny with them, and eventually Steve, too. This was heartbreaking and heartmending a thousand times over, in a thousand gorgeous ways.

In which the thing between them is natural, like sand and waves and time. This was sweet in a quiet, peculiar way and also really, really beautiful.

Oh god, this is really beautiful. Usually, I usually find it really hard to keep my attention on a fanvid with a slow song, but this one caught my attention and then held it spellbound. In other news, Danny needs more hugs. :(

In which Steve discovers he has a glasses fetish when Danny starts using reading glasses. LOLOLOL, YESSSS.

In which there's a serial killer going after people with tattoos of their significant others, and Danny gets volunteered to be the tattooee in their undercover operation. 

In which Steve forces Danny to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Every ounce of Irishness in me is giddy and smug after reading this fic. Totally delightful.

In which Grace is sick and sometimes it takes a village... to keep Danno from driving himself crazy. Absolutely gorgeous sequel to Curving Like the Ocean Toward You. Gyzym makes me feel all the feelings, seriously, ugh, how.

In which Steve and Danny's daemons are a little more comfortable with each other than anybody really knows how to handle. Adorable.

In which we see things from Gracie's point of view for a while. Ohhhh, I really, really liked this.

In which Steve and Danny try to sublimate their feelings for each other by fixing up Steve's house. Yes, prove you aren't gay for your partner by pursuing INTERIOR DECORATING with him. This plan was bound for failure from the start for a very great many reasons. Which contains the line: “Daniel, you’re not making any sense.” “You think I don’t know that?” Danny demands, throwing his hands in the air. “You think I don’t know about the crazy, because I know, Rachel, oh, do I know, I know so much more than you do it’s not even funny, I am a scholar of crazy, okay, I am the fucking foremost expert on crazy, nobody knows crazy like I know crazy.”

In which Danny unknowingly gets roped into participating in a Hawaiian courtship tradition, and Steve overreacts. As much as I enjoyed Steve's feelings phobia and the Jealous Hamster face and Old Spice Guy jokes, the descriptions in this fic were heartrendingly, almost incongruously beautiful. And speaking of: THE FLOWERS, OH GOD, SO MUCH WITH THE FLOWERS.

In which Danny has to go back to Jersey for a week or so and Steve fails to handle it well. Agh, Gyzym. All of the feelings.

In which, like many other hilariously awkward and secretly emotional conversations they have together, Steve brings up the possibility of them dating while they are in car together. In which, as usual, their car conversations begin and end with Danny narrowly avoiding apoplexy. This was completely hilarious, mostly because it is so utterly, completely them. I have a helpless, uncomplicated grin on my face.

In which everyone deals with the aftermath of 1.18. Jesus this fic. So much a starkly realistic depiction of grief--the yawning panic and helplessness, the terrible distance between the understand that a loss has occurred and the comprehension of it. Yet so much also filled brimful with compassion and forgiveness and laughter and tenderness and yes, always, always love. A supremely, almost chokingly beautiful story that is near-perfectly crafted.

In which Steve is convinced they need to go on regular dates to be a functioning couple, and Danny is not amused.

In which Rachel calls Steve after 1x18, and Steve does as much as he can. This was such a lovely h/c fic, all grief and fretfulness and uncertainty juxtaposed with deep and abiding tenderness. There's a quietness to their interactions with each other here that I really liked, in it's complete opposition to their normal interactions, which works both in deference to the terrible situation and also to the unspeakable certainty of their reliance on and trust in each other.

In which there is a coda to 1x18. BAAAAWWWWWWWWWW. I seriously cannot get over how much I love the way Gyzym writes Danny and Rachel. Seriously, it just rings so ridiculously, hopelessly, lovingly true I don't know what to do with myself. Everything else in this ficlet was wonderful and needed, too, but that was just something more.

In which Danny magically dreams himself back into his life in Jersey and comes to realize once and for all that home really is wherever your heart lies. This was beautiful and tangled and perfect in a heart-attack-inducing kind of way. Seriously, how does a fic with this ridiculous of a premise come out with so many essential life truths and heart-rending moments of catharsis? The answer is obviously the author, who has a long history of painting domestic dynamics in miraculously realistic and somehow also movie-shiny strokes. An instant classic and essential read.

In which Danny explains why he and Rachel didn't work out, and Steve immediately develops a complex over it. Hahaha, this was great.

In which Steve has a list of things he shouldn't read into, and it's rapidly becoming too long to really work the way it's supposed to. I love this so much. The entire fic reads like one long, sweet inhalation. Like a delighted gasp as warmth floods your stomach unexpectedly, except extended for 3000 completely lovely words. God, just... god. *chinhands*

Danny and Steve are married. M A R R I E D. And this primer proves it.

In which Steve comes home after 1x16 to Danny having a meltdown in his house, and finds that he's actually better at this comforting business than much of the world might have believed. This was adorable, and a little hilarious, and Danny coming completely undone after everything that happened in this ep was hugely cathartic to me and thus my enjoyment was almost an instinctual imperative. Luckily, though, it's as good objectively as it is in my irrational hindbrain.

In which Hawaii calls in a specialist from London (and his plus one). EPIC CROSSOVER IS EPIC. This fic wasn't the greatest thing I ever read, but I think it did all these amazing characters justice without letting things fall too far off the rails, so props are definitely in order.

In which there is a teeny tiny lovely tag to 1x14. In which Danny says, "Believe me, I will always be the last person on earth to discourage you when you are having a feeling." Eeeeeee.

In which Catherine may be unashamedly using Steve for sex, but that doesn't preclude her caring about his happiness, or meddling to make sure he gets it. This. Was. Awesome. Catherine's no-nonsense approach charmed my pants off, and that Danny/Steve kiss... girl, I get it. Hnnnnng.

In which they go on an alternative-family-unit date and Danny doesn't figure it out until afterwards. UGH KIDFICCC. GRACIE, STEVE, DANNOOOOOO, OMFGGG.

In which Danny is Danni, and all that really means is that her and Steve fall in to bed together almost immediately, and it quickly turns into the most domestic thing either of them have ever known, without either of them really being able to figure out how those lines got crossed. Ugh, ugh, this verse is a beautiful, beautiful thing, full of hot, hot sex, and gloriously horrifying emotional revelations, and the the discovery that apparently Danni starts quoting Beyonce when she's loopy from pregnancy hormones, and just basically, it's the best thing ever, full stop.

IN WHICH STEVE IS A MERMAID PRINCESS AND DANNY IS THE HUMAN HE FALLS IN LOVE WITH.

In which we see what Steve wooing Danny might be like. The answer to this burning question is "it looks a bit like a really hot and bewilderingly competent Stepford scenario," but it ends in a Danny rant and sex, so you know it's hilarious and lovely.

In which Danny ropes Steve to coming home with him to Jersey for Christmas. Yay! New Jersey displayed in a positive light! Yay, adorable and slightly terrifying giant family Christmases! Yay, quiet and understated and perfect romantic arcs! This fic is every warm emotion I can think of, and then a couple more I found in the dictionary, in addition to being very cheeky and sly and hugely funny.

In which the CHiPs argument ends thanks to some tactical gift-giving. Hahaha.

In which Danny has three virtually foolproof rules for handling Steve-related emergencies.

In which Danny forces Steve to own up to the craziness that was 1x13 and go home and deal with his feelings. Jesus, okay, there is exactly one paragraph of sex in this fic, but it is a long paragraph, and one of the most perfectly encapsulated scenes I've ever read. It's a stunner.

In which they exchange gifts. Of course, Danny would be the obsessive type who gets the awesome presents. And of course, Steve would be the stunted one who buys the default gift with an unexpectedly large amount of emotion behind it. Of course. Now to wipe this disgusting grin off my face.

In which Steve is finally made to confront the post-DADT world, and it leads to a lot of other more internal confrontations. Which contains the utterly gorgeous lines: "How do you elaborate on a group of people who made you who you are, who gave you everything when you had nothing, but who forced this one, huge part of you into a box and then threw away the key? And what do you say about how fucked up that part of you is when they finally unlock it?" Ahhhhh, all the DADT-related fics are so gooooood. This one really takes the cake for psychological consideration though. 

Eeeeeeheehee, awesome. This is one of those songs I just sort of assumed was unviddable, but I have been delightfully proven wrong!

In which Steve gets put out of commission for a while and is temporarily reassigned as Grace's babysitter while the rest of the team tackles a group of inexperienced hipster jerkwads who think watching a couple of artsy heist movies makes them expert jewel thieves. This fic was a solid 60% just gold standard Danno witticisms. Another 35% was bad-ass police work and the other 5% was Danny and Steve being married on the astral plane, only in a good way. Unless you have some kind of personal hangup against having the time of your life, you should read this fic -immediately.-

In which there is a secret agent AU told with pictures. Lololol, Google fail, always amusing.

In which Danny has Veela blood, and is going into mating heat. Really? REALLY? I wanted to hate this so I didn't have to hurt my brain trying to wrap it around this concept, but actually this fic is kind of amazing, pretty hilarious, definitely hot, and one hundred percent delightful. Except now my brain hurts. Also my facial muscles, from grinning so hard.

IT WOOOORKS.

In which Danny starts to clue in that Steve might have not-so-latent sadistic tendencies. Complete crack what I love.

In which one too many people asks Danny how long he's been married to Steve, so he brashly answers with an oddly specific time period that gets him more trouble than he really bargained for. Adorable police force betting pool hijinx. Also, seriously, the banter at the beginning with the perps! Danny~! <333

In which we see what happened later at the little Christmas get together. Eeeeeeeeeeeeee, <333333333333. Indeed, I have no words for this fic. Just dolphin noises and hearts. <3

In which Danny drunk dials Steve and ranting of the only vaguely coherent variety ensues. I know 95% of my H5-0 notes are "Danny needs to never ever stop talking," but unfortunately, I keep right on thinking that every time I finish a good fic. People just keep getting his voice SO RIGHT, okay, I legitimately cannot help it.

In which the boys are sick, but Grace and Kono are holding down the fort for them.

In which Danny teaches Steve about proper police procedure, such as reading bookees their Miranda rights. Adooooooooorable. <333333333

Which contains the lines: "Because see, here's what happened this morning. I got up, I drank some coffee, I put on a clean shirt and my second favorite tie, and I thought to myself, Daniel, what fresh hell will Steve McGarrett inflict upon you today? I catalogued the possibilities – the hellfire, damnation, and destruction generally wrought by semi-automatic weaponry, incendiary devices, and beer of questionable provenance, and I girded my loins. My loins, McGarrett, these very loins, right here, in these pants, were girded. But then – oh! Joy! – I am texted by terrorists who have kidnapped my partner, and with the aid of modern technology and cunning detective work, I establish that your cell phone is right here in your house. So here I am, HPD hot on my tail, half the island on lock down, and it turns out the terrorist is snot. Phlegm is holding you hostage."

In which Steve celebrates the repeal of DADT by barging in on Danny's lunch. Adorable and heart-swelling, I cannot even. I need all the DADT fics if they're gonna make me feel this way.

In which Danny finds Steve's iPod and goes nuclear. Steve's taste in music is apparently 100% more horrifying in fanon than canon, but it's worth it to get a Danny rant that is this inspired.

In which Steve tries to play the hero and instead ends up held hostage in an elevator while the rest of the team takes care of Hesse once and for all. Steve was kind of adorable in this--some endearing combination of alien, robot, and human that only Danny could adequately describe. And Danny~~~! And Kono!!! Ugh, hearts.

In which Steve is determined to make sure Danny has a home in Hawaii, and is more than happy to provide that home if the opportunity arises. God, long and lovely and a little bit adorably ridiculous.

In which Rachel thinks Steve is the sane influence on their partnership, and Danny finds himself negotiating a new, less hostile relationship with her while he tries to correct this sad delusion.

In which Steve is a crazy man and Danny has an awesome bedside manner, thank you very much. This was adorable, though I'm not gonna lie, I had giddy thoughts of Beauty and the Beast running through my head that only added to the adorableness. But so adorable! So them! So the prickly Danny that I need to never leave my life ever.

In which they have their first morning together. Ohhhh, this packed such a lovely punch for being so so short. <3

In which Danny finally gets comfortable with the idea of belonging in Hawaii, with 5-0 and with Steve.

In which Steve meets Danny's family over Thanksgiving. Hahaha, this was amazing. Hands down amazing.
