Socialism and Social Darwinism
No one is a social Darwinist but to some on the left, the term refers to anyone who wants to increase government spending more slowly they would like.

February 19, 1942: A Day that Will Live in Infamy
Sheldon Richman remembers the seventieth anniversary of FDR's executive order 9066, which sent 110,000 Japanese Americans and Japanese to concentration camps.

Poll finds broad support for Obama’s counterterrorism policies
Liberals and progressives, who hated George W. Bush's policies, love those same policies now that Barack Obama is practicing them.

Obama to the nation: Onward civilian soldiers
Barack Obama, like other progressives, wishes to dispense with constitutional democracy and replace it with a civilian army, ordered by a great man with a great plan.

Some Questions About Government, Arnold Kling
Arnold Kling meditates on the flaws of large organizations, and wonders why government-enthusiasts believe their favorite institution is immune to them. At least large corporations are vulnerable to competition from new firms (unless a government prevents that).

Whose Money Is It? Not all wealth belongs to Washington
I'm not as sure as Bart Hinkle is that implementing Paul Ryan's plan would leave the rich with more money, and the poor with less. Medicare and Social Security are not means-tested, after all.

Notes for a Debate
I think Arnold's good and bad spirits are just metaphors for most people's tendency to overrate motives (greed vs. "concern for the public interest"), and underrate constraints and incentives.

Progressives don't really get progress, but the American people do
I think this is a little optimistic, but it's a good critique of progressivism.

Why Liberals Kill: The left may be pressuring President Obama to exit Afghanistan. But their heroes-from FDR to JFK-promoted U.S. involvement in more wars than all modern GOP presidents combined.
Not to let warmongering conservatives off the hook, but anti-war progressives should be honest with themselves about the actions of their heroes. Thaddeus Russell offers them a textual slap to the face.

In Letter, Health Insurers Back Regulations in Exchange for Individual Mandate
Health insurance companies are all in favor of the left's reform proposals, provided there is no public option and all Americans are forced to buy their products (the "individual mandate"). More evidence that big businesses are not enemies of big government.

Bush is Indeed Like Herbert Hoover - But Not in the Way You Think:
Both Hoover and Bush adhered to the philosophy of massive government intervention in response to an economic crisis.
